FINALLY! I was waiting for the obligatory hater to speak up.
He didn’t just lift the sword, if I recall correctly the little guy had the sword pressed against Lion-O’s back. So yeah, he surrended so he wasn’t run through.
hated the design of the sword of plundar. the OS’s version was so badass. this one looks almost identical to the sword of omens. god, if you want to reinvent it try to use your imagination instead of replicating what you already have.
It transforms to look more like the OS version, I think. Edit: I went back and took a look at Legacy. When Mumm-Ra wields it he is able to transform it to look like the OS sword.
nd besides, the way they’ve found it was such a cop out. hmmm a glowing mark on the wall looking like a big, giant sword.. I wonder what can that be?
It wasn’t shaped like a sword at all. The giant claw shield was visible moreso than the sword itself. It took hundreds of slaves to get to the point where it was uncovered, so not really a cop out.
taking it out leads to a cave collapse but they end up kissing and the curse is broken.. I mean.. even today’s disney’s sugarcoated films are not that gullible to believe that people and even today’s kids will take this seriously.
Their kissing didn’t end any curse. They simply got lucky that choosing to spend what could have been their last moment together didn’t kill them.
the power of rataro’s weapon is strong enough for the sword of omens to blast liono away but not for the handclaw shield.. that was just plain stupid.

the dialogues are just too cheesy and childish for me.. when it comes to the writing process some of the events depicted just seemed forced and unconvincing.
I’m not expecting an HBO show.. but at least give things some thought before jumping the shark and writing 5 mins. worth a script.

Heh. Try watching most of the other cartoons on CN. Thundercats may not be perfect, but it usually looks pretty damn good in comparison.

This might make me very unpopular around but, am I the only ne not loving the new Pumyra that much? I mean yes, she’s badass and I like that, especially when her OS alter ego was kinda passive, but sometimes I feel it’s just too much. JMO.
I love the new Pumyra, but her change was rather drastic from the OS to NS. So I can see where you’re coming from, but I also do like the new Pumyra a lot.
Eh, you have to consider the conditions surrounding her joining the team. She’s been forced to fight for her life in the Pit and now she has to see her people suffering under the Rats. She has anger issues, sure, but they aren’t unfounded. It may seem like a lot, but it’s justified. I’m sure you’ll warm up to her as she settles down in later episodes.
I get where you’re coming from, I can see how she can be abrasive (in action and in voice, Pamela Adlon isn’t exactly Mandy Moore) and it looks like now that Lion-O’s matured a bit her job is to do a lot of the dumb stuff he used to do. Personally I like her spirit and I like how in two episodes she’s made a bigger impact on the story than she ever did in the 80’s show, but not every character is going to appeal to everybody (personally I’m not a huge Tygra fan, I don’t hate him, but he’s only “okay” to me).
Very good episode. Much has been said already, so I’ll try to focus on other things. It had a little bit of something for everyone:

Really dark setting, I did not expect the writing or the animation to show the level of brutality and callousness towards the cat slaves that it did.

Meet the new boss Ratar-O, same as the old boss Ratar-O…he is perhaps the most fearsome of the villains introduced yet. He’s sadistic, has no respect for life, and seems to actually have a functioning cerebral cortex.

Flashback to young Jaga, which reminded me of seeing a young Obi-Wan in “The Phantom Menace” for the first time.

CheeTygra fans got their tender vittles, plus a huge double entendre at the end “I think we just got lucky…Yes, we did.” (what exactly happened in that interlude? Sounds like more than a kiss)

Liomyra fans got the big fat hint they were looking for, although the king seems too clueless to understand the volcano girl digs him. I have a feeling she’ll make it clearer soon.

I liked the whole idea behind the “lost” Sword of Plun-Darr and some of the subtle touches. If you look at the scene where Ratilla wades into the water, the pyramid is in the background. The sword didn’t land too far away during re-entry and the deep chasm he dove into must have been the impact crater when it hit.

I echo the sentiments that the fight at the end was a little bit lacking, just invoking the Spirit Stone as the dues ex machina is getting a bit old. I was hoping that when Lion-O leapt at Ratar-O with the sword poised in midair, we were going to get an impaled rat shish-ke-bob (or at least an implied one), instead we got a battle of whose neon glows brighter.
This is just a minor criticism, really…I enjoyed this one very much and hope the next ones are just as good.
I get your point, guys. I know her anger is justified. It’s not that I hate her. I like her. It’s just that sometimes I feel about her like “chill down”. Just too much in some moments. I wonder how the other members of the group feel about having a so angry person around all the time. I can picture she getting mad at everything they say, and the others going “hey, it was a joke” lol Guess I’d grow to like her more in future eps.
That’s the thing, we’re watching a multi-part story arc so time isn’t passing between episodes. They haven’t really known her that long, probably a day at most. She’ll mellow out in time, I’m sure.
Plus she wasn’t angry when she was flirting with Lion-O. Maybe he could help her calm down.

My best guess is that Ratilla was Ratar-O’s grandfather.
If I’m not mistaken they sometimes have different directors working on different scenes. I remember them saying in the Berbils episode the guy who does the final character designs directed the scene with the thundertank vs the konqudor’s vehicle at the end.
We will see them in “The Forever Bag” and I think everyone will be back together by the end of that episode.
In a lot of eastern cultures anyone who came before your father is considered you “ancestor” so it could still work given the east Asian design for Ratar-O and some of his flunkies.
Maybe the Sword of Plundarr extended Ratilla’s lifespan like the One ring did for Gollum and Bilbo, or Jaga’s magic extended his own life through several generations of kings, or some combination of them two.

Looks like everyone liked this episode!!! including me…so why dont the producers do episodes like this one more often…this is what people want to see…plot lines that are parallel to the old show…they have all the characters, stories, weapons, legends, vehicles, etc…just stick to it and every episode will be great…

Tygra addressed your other points quite well, but I just wanted to say that the Warstone in the sword is mostly used for offense. The Spiritstone, which is in the shield, is a defensive stone. It’s been a shield from the start. If it was the glove alone it wouldn’t have deflected the blast. It was the Spiritstone that did that. There’s a reason Mumm-Ra wants these things.
Time does PASS between episodes. Take Trials 2 and Native son as an example. First they are in the desert, then up in the mountains. Say what? The only thing we get to know is the fact they are looking for some passageway, but we dont know why or anything.
