I’d slap the label “Arcee” on Cheetara before I would Pumyra. The former is mostly an accessory to action, the latter is the action.
Funny you make that comparison, though, because I’ve often thought of the '86 Transformers parallels to the NS more than once…Lion-O as being much like Hot Rod, and Tygra sort of a more malevolent version of Springer, and Panthro like a combination of Kup/UltraMagnus.

For me, aside from the initial bad-assery(is that a word?) we have seen from Pumyra, the intrigue is that there HAS to be more to her than just that. The exciting part is finding out about that softer side and seeing how she is as a whole character. I’ve always liked those kind of characters anyway, but it’s a combination of her being so different from her original series version, the potential dynamic she can bring to the group because she is so much different from them, and being able to witness her character evolution simply because she will get more time in this series. We really have never known Pumyra before, unlike Cheetara, and and at least for me, this is her appeal.
Pumyra is getting more interesting every time I watch her.

THIS. I can totally see that dynamic with Panthro and PUmyra, funny enough in the beginning I thought that would be Cheetara and Panthro’s dynamic, with them both serving the crown they have to have some stories to tell but Cheetara seems far too subdued for such talk of the glory of battle, perhaps Pumyra is a better match for bonding over how many bad guys got creamed that one time, I can see it now, “one time, in Thundera…”
Also, one could assume that there might be an “experience” factor, and that would be that Ratro-O has been a fighter alot longer than Lion-O, who is still in his late-teens.
Hence, that’s why I’m kinda’ hoping some time will have passed as Season 2 begins, so that we’ll now see Lion-O having a more 20’s-grown look(taller and slightly broader) . I really want to see him look a little more formidable when facing a big guy like Ratar-O or Slythe.
I’d have to strongly disagree with that. I am disliking Tygra more and more as time goes on. He seems so vain and full of himself, and his dialogue in this episode made me wish Pumyra would hit him instead of Lion-O. 
I’ve had hope at times that Tygra will quit being so pompous and show a little humility for once (there have been flashes of this in the “Trials” episodes and in “Native Son”), but then he goes back to being a jerk. I dunno, maybe he’s just trying to be “playful” with Cheetara because he loves her, but…it still sounds to me like he’s all “look at me, aren’t I awesome?” UGH.
It’s been YEARS since I’ve watched the OS, but I don’t remember that Tygra being quite as self-absorbed as this one is. Was he? I actually remember being quite fond of OS Tygra, even though my favorite TCat in both the old and new series is Lion-O. :liono
I love the fact that Pumyra is interested in Lion-O! I hope the Lord of the TCats gets over his confusion/hesitation very soon and accepts her advances. Then maybe Cheetara will smell the coffee and realize she chose the wrong cat, only by then it will be too late because the right cat will no longer be pining for her.

FYI: I wrote this post after I had read about 19 pages in this thread. I hadn’t yet arrived at the “Tygra drama” which erupted shortly thereafter. Let me just clarify that I have nothing against Tygra fans whatsoever and would never speak harshly to anyone who loved any other TCat over Lion-O. It’s just my opinion, nothing personal.
My feelings exactly (including the qualifier addendum at the end).
The OS Tygra was the complete opposite, he was a very reserved and humble character.
While I’m fine with the NS Tygra being the way he is, I do wish they’d tone down his bombast and knock off the constant shots he takes at Lion-O.
LOL As part of the “Tygra drama” I’ve got to say I am sorry you felt the need to post the update. There’s nothing in your post that could offend anyone.
Respect is all over your post, and it’s what you’re going to get from me and I dare say everyone here, no matter who their favorite character is and how opposite their views might be compared to yours.

Yeah, I hoped Tygra would transition to be more like the OS as the series went on. It doesn’t look like they are doing that, though.
I really, really hope they don’t attempt anything like that. The love triangle is over and it’s best to just move on to bigger and better things.
I was hoping that too, but theres still a good chance that will happen, even if the big change comes in season 2. I mean we’ve seen hints of a more humble/supportive/wise Tygra, but it would be wierd if he changed overnight. I think that just as with Liono (who arguably has had a lot more development), Tygra has changed a lot in this season, but his core character is still there as is reflected in the bombast, pride and sarcasm, just as LionOs is. They are both just slowly growing into different people. I know some people don’t like this, but you have to have this representation of a character at the start, to recognise how much he has changed by the end of the arc. I think when we get the next season, it will follow straight on from the end of this one, but we will see a greater character arc for the two brothers, and I’m hoping that by the end of season 2, Tygra is quite a bit more like his OS counterpart. Then we’ll be able to see what he was like at the start and how much he has grown, just as we’ll be able to see LionO grow from the spoiled impetuous prince to the king and ruler of Thundera.

I really really agree with you on that one.
There is always time for the change to come, but I was thinking that after “Between Brothers” he’d really mellow out. Airing out his problems with Lion-O and receiving the love he wanted from Cheetara should have been enough to start the transition.
Panthro totally owned this episode with his remarks calling out the lovebirds.

I think initially Tygra goes with Cheetara out of genuine concern for her, but then Lion-O makes his little comment (which was totally innocent) and he once again feels the need to compete for her, so he ups the “charm” to ridiculous levels, forgetting that she already likes him.
That’s just it, it HAS started the transition, and I stress the word started. At the moment we are in that transition period where sometimes he acts more thoughtful and wise and mellow, but others he will fall back into his old character because that is familiar and comfortable. I think over time we’ll see less of the ‘old’ proud and sarcastic tygra, and more of the mellow, wise tygra.

your conversations are pretty interesting so I decided to join in 
(it’s way better than the empty IMDB boards that just lurk with nostalgic haters)
Anyway what I liked about this episode was the dark slavery setting that gave me goosebumps, I liked the little rat guy with the eye-patch , I like Pumyras outbreaks , and the fight scene at the end (like the moment Lion-O punched Ratar-O) was epic - even if way too short ! (I really hope it’s just because they needed more time for story . and not out of budjet reasons)
I have to admit that the Tygra and Cheetara flirting was a bit :duh: but I guess it’s about time they will act more as a couple . and besides I act alot like him in my relationships . so I couldn’t have acted better myself XD
Besides that - what I didn’t like about the episode was :
Ratar-O’s design . I think hes a great villan , but he looks really ugly . I mean , yeah hes a rat and all , but Dan Norton could have made him a but cooler than the OS version he resembels so much . I dunno , something like SHredder from TMNT is what I had in mind … and with that look I could have at least hope for a creepy voice . but instead they gave him this british accent . oh the hidden sterotype…
Also , one little thing that bugged me was how everyone got realeased from their handcuffs when the ceiling came down . oh you lazy writers people are gonna make fun of that while watching the DVD’s when this underrated show gets cult one day .
