ThunderCats Episode 19: The Pit Airdate: 28th April 2012

Another great episode, I liked the racoon guy and the main dog character wasn’t a bad guy after all. I don’t see any of the “Pumyra all of sudden falls in loves with Lion-o” stuff that the Irish fan was talking about. She just relized this guy isn’t a coward after all and he has strong ideals.
No, you are mistaken, Dagon78, Pumyra didn’t easily ”fall in love” with Lion-O, she forgave him after he stayed true to his word, and stood by Pumyra.
I liked this episode because not only do we get Pumyra, but we get the WilyTwins in action as well. Tookit was pretty damn sneaky in this. Makes me wonder if other raccoons are thieves in this series as well. I like that this episode was a test of loyalty, and taught Dobo that cats can show loyalty as well.
I liked it, but not as much as I thought I would considering it was the introduction of a classic character.
I’m not sure if I like Pumyra yet, I’ll need more time with the character. Her weapon has to be the most ridiculous thing ever. She loads little pebbles like an arrow and somehow she was shooting hundreds of these things at Lion-O? They really should have made it more mechanical like a crossbow for it to make sense.
The Kitten stuff with the raccoon character was just a waste of time as was giving Panthro a connection to the Pit and Dobo character. If they would have axed this stuff we could have seen more of Pumyra.
I really, really liked the episode. It seemed a little rushed, but that’s just expected when they have so many things going on at once. It was a huge improvement (at least for me) over last week’s episode.
I thought Pumyra’s voice acting was very well done, and I’m glad that she got introduced in the way she did. The other story with the twins was mildly amusing, too. I really thought the scene where Lion-O refused to fight Pumyra was also very well done. I didn’t expect him to literally just let her beat the crap out of him. I guess he proved a good point.
I didn’t say she did fall for him, I am saying I don’t really see that she did according to what they were saying when it was showed early in Ireland. They made it sound like she completely changed in attitude and was hitting on him.
good episode, not only Pumyra was introduced we also learned a bit more about Panthro’s past. Too bad the episode only lasted 20 minutes ;).
Like all episodes it had more potential than for 20 minutes.
The only thing I’m not so happy about is that Panthro, Cheetara and Tygra were so passive. Yeah, right, of course they couldn’t fight against the whole city of dogs, but just stand back while they king maybe get killed… at least I wish they had done more than only having a shocked face.
I liked how the dog city was very different than Thundera, sort of a Bartertown/Megaton look to it. It was ramshackle and messy, but cozy and a bit more “melting pot”, kind of like the village in Duelist and the Drifter.
Also interesting to see the inter-species prejudice, particularly Tygra’s evident contempt for the dog culture (I was waiting for him to spit “barbarian” at some point) and Dobo’s perception that all cats are mercenary in nature.
I noticed the dogs seem to have street lamps at night and self-propelled vehicles moving around the city, which indicates they didn’t totally forsake technology as the cats have. Also neat that their currency is different.
Loved Pumyra’s character and voice acting, very well done. Great moment when she hisses at Lion-O - I thought their exchange in the cells was really powerful. I only wish there was more about her in the episode. Really looking forward to her future role.
Tookit was very charming and likeable, his accent and appearance were perfectly suited (as was his “klepto-voyant” raccoon persona). Makes me wonder if he is also tagging along with the cats for future episodes. Presumably they aren’t done with him yet, since he still has Kit and Kat’s possessions.
Dobo was a well-done character, makes sense they would have a doberman in this role given the episode’s emphasis on loyalty.
My only beef is there was a lot packed in one episode - three new characters, a Panthro backstory, and two storylines going on at once. It leaves me wanting to see more of Pumyra, but it looks like next week is going to bring more cats into the picture.
Nice episode! I just wish a little more screen-time could’ve been given to Pumyra and Lion-O. Maybe next episode. The chemistry between the two was handled quite effectively! It does seem to hint of further things to come between those two. We’ll see…
As someone who has fond memories of the original series I can honestly say, it’s far superior in terms of characters, storylines and the general mythos.
Looking forward to the next few episode.

Saturday, May 12: “Birth of the Blades” – Mumm-Ra seeks to reclaim the sword of Plun-Darr.
Saturday, May 19: “The Forever Bag” – WilyKit, WilyKat, and Snarf track down a thief in Dog City.
Saturday, May 26: “Recipe for Disaster” – The Cats discover a magic elixir that can stop Mumm-Ra, but will they be able to gather enough of it in time to defeat him?
I didn’t like the whole Wily twin thief subplot. It obviously set things up for a future episode since the Raccoon stole their weapons, but I would’ve rather have that time spent on a flashback showing how Pumyra ended up in the Pit after escaping Mount Plundarr (or how the Thunderians ended up at Mt. P in the first place). And the whole “needing” the cane, blanket, and button was dumb. He stole it because he needed them, but if he hadn’t stolen them he wouldn’t have needed them.
And Lion-O… for God’s sake man use your head! If you’re planning on freeing a captive slave, don’t stand there and tell the guy who has her that you’re going to do it. Dobo would’ve had to have been an idiot not to have been there waiting for him and Lion-O was stupid for not only not expecting him there, but having absolutely zero backup from any of the other cats. I mean at least have Tygra follow you in stealth mode.
I loved this episode and am a bit surprised that some of you didn’t
care for the twins sub-plot. I felt that their part in the episode was quite engaging and it never hurts to focus on someone other than Lion-O…which I THOUGHT was what most of us wanted…
