best episode in quite a while.

well.. probably the only good episode.. since the last one Tab Murphy had written. all the others were mediocre minus at best. most were really bad.

I’m telling you, this guy has talented writing skills, and I’m telling you once again - if it were up to me, this guy would have written the entire show. all the other writers just fall short.

Tab, if you’re reading this post. you did a great job on an excellent piece of work. it had psychological depth, the narrative structure was built cohesevely and coherently, and the dialogues were very functional to the characters involved.

I think Will Friedle did an excellent job on “Trials part 2.” Especially considering he’s known mostly as an actor and this is probably one of his first real writing credits. Not to take away from Tab, but credit where credit is due and all.

Agree that this was an excellent episode, and extremely well written, but that doesn’t mean ALL of the other episodes suffered in comparison. There have been a number of excellent episodes.

This episode had a mood and impact similar to SOTP, but held more profundity for the audience and characters since the insights directly related to one of the leads. And the animation was stunningly rich and fluent. Like all of the episodes this season, this one suffered from the “rushed” effect. But other that that it’s a fine, fine piece and deserves to be in the top five.

I would think that not all of the Tiger clan agreed to work in Mumm-Ra’s name. There may have been some objectors who were texiled or, yes, they could have been executed for defying Mumm-Ra. If a plague took out that particular clan, then yes, Tygra would be its last surviving member.

When you consider the fact that some may have wanted to break away from the ASOE, other members may have either left or been exiled before Tygra was born.

I also loved how they answered the question about what happened to Lion-O’s mother. Some had guessed she died giving birth to Lion-O. She was pretty much what I expected her be like.

I also loved how they answered the question about what happened to Lion-O’s mother. Some had guessed she died giving birth to Lion-O. She was pretty much what I expected her be like.

Another bummer is that they didn’t show or name Tygra’s mom, but the common opinion is that she was a plague victim and that makes sense. Also a bummer that she wasn’t named.

It was a bummer and the name I had in mind for was Tylia. Only other thing I would have loved to see would be whether or not there were any Red Tigers with illusion powers.

There is also a possibility that not all Tigers agreed with the ones that was shown in the episode and some went elswhere instead.

Or the White and Red Tiger clans had split on whether or not to serve the ASOE.

I hope this wasn’t the only flashback of Lion-O’ mom (actually it’s also Tygra’s mom). I’m sure that on the day Claudius wife died something died inside Tygra; for me it was one of the saddest scene I saw for a very long time in an animation.

Claudius was affected too since they were so happy the gods had given them another child to love.

I’ve said it before that Lion-O comes across great in this episode. He’s more mature and applying the lessons he’s learned while still being that great, funny guy we saw in the pilot. I know it’s a Tygra episode, but Lion-O is awesome here.

I like letting someone else be the focus of the episode and I’m looking forward to one that tells Cheetara’s story.

I just watched it and it’s the best episode in a while. Props to the writers on this one. Hopefully this will be the trend for the upcoming episodes as I really enjoyed it.

Really great episode! A lot of the things I wanted to say have already been said, but I’ll just throw my two cents in anyway.

Thundercats fans - and especially Tygra fans - really got a field day with this episode. It was very character-driven, and IMO, probably rivals some of the better fan-fiction that’s out there. I think even some of this show’s harsher critics would have to concede this was extremely well-written.

We got a HUGE info-dump here, not only on Tygra’s origins, but also Lion-O’s heretofore unseen mother (something not even the OS even touched), and the beginnings of the resentment and rivalry between Tygra’s and Lion-O. When Lion-O’s mother said, “My little pri-… My little darling.” I just thought, “Ouch!” And then we had…

The Ancient Spirits of Evil! That was sort of a surprise. Mumm-Ra had been invoking them of course when he transformed. But beyond that, we never saw any other evidence of them until now. It’s now making me wonder what his relationship with them is exactly. I’m guessing it’s not quite the same as it was in the OS, but it’ll be fun to find out!

If there were any minuses in this ep, it’s that I could see the reveal of the Tigers being the creatures coming from a mile away. And the whole “mother dying in childbirth” is also a commonly used trope. But those weren’t deal-breakers for me. The episode was still excellent.

Again, as I’ve said before, I always thought Thundercats had potential to be more than just another '80s kids show and be something very truly epic. This episode proved once again that it is more than capable of achieving that. Like someone else here said, this show is just too good to be canceled right now. Yeah, we now have Legend of Korra too, but I think there’s planety of room for two continuing animated epic adventure shows!

Just one other thing. I didn’t get to comment on last week’s ep, but I thought that was pretty good too. It kind of reminded me a little of what happened with John Sheridan in Babylon 5 at the beginning of its 4th season (And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, seriously watch that show. I really recommend it.) I was a tad disappointed in the edning, though, as I really thought Lion-O would have to sacrifice something to come back, much like Sheridan did on B5. So I personally felt as if Jaga’s saying he didn’t really sacrifice his soul at all was a bit of a cop-out (although it probably would have made things difficult later). But still, on the whole a decent ep, that one.

So sad Tygra appears to be the last surviving tiger…or is he??? (doubt it)

Even without devotion to tygra, this is by far replaced episode 5 as my favourite!

I’ve been speculating since the beginning of the show, that this COULD be the same world, not one, but two “ages” ago, where there is not just the lost history of their time enslaved by mumm ra, but lost history of an age before their enslavement - the original show

I also feel that this episode missed a chance to incoroporate the original voice actors; As Lion-O’s father in the pilot was the original voice; so should Tygra’s fathers voice have been portrayed by the original as well.

Still.. great episode!

Peter Newman is dead? I know that some of the other OS voice actors are gone (Robert McFadden and Earl Hammond) but I never heard anything about Peter Newman dying.

How could that be when the original show had them coming from another planet with no Mummra and in this cannon they used to serve MummRa in space?

By this logic the originals escaped Thundera to 3rd earth with the sword of Omens, then at some point Joined Mummra and left 3rd earth to look for the Eye of Thundera which MummRa at least would have known was already there
