Just wondering…back in the days, when Thundercats were to be aired on TV in 85, was there a similar Toy Fair preluding the show?
I’d love to see footage from something like that… but before the digital age, footage from things like that is probably lost in time, with nothing more than obscure documents giving proof of evidence of the event, if any… ;/
I would very much like too. But i believe these kind of events weren’t existant at that time.
In Japan though, back in 1983 in a similar Toy Fair the Hasbro Company discovered Transformers by Takara and this is how the Series begun
actually they discovered Diaclone and Microman and decided to roll them into one line and called it Transformers. contrary to popular belief, the actual Transformers brand is a US creation
I don’t know when it started, but Toy Fair has been around quite some time. I dug around and found an article about a woman who debuted the Barbie doll line at Toy Fair in the 50’s, and one of the extras on the G.I. Joe DVD set from Shout Factory is the original Toy Fair Presentation in 1963 of the 12" line.
So I’ think its highly likely that the original LJN line probably got presented at Toy Fair 84 or 85.

The classic Tygra looks a bit better than Lion-O though.
Nice! I hope they preview other figures as well as some footage from the new toon at the show this weekend.
The 4" look a lot better in these photos. Lion-O is SICK! I love that new armor and claw shield. I’d pick up my favorites to bring to work.
Classics Lion-O is even better looking in that photo while Tygra’s head could use some work. Other than that his body is spot on.
I too hoped the T-Tank would be grey in the final run, but these new photos rock! I actually like the toy better than the box art now that we get some sweet closeups. It actually invokes the thought that the T-Tank is an extension of Panthro. Which could mean he’s compensating for something. No, not that! His hairline!
Oh, and the Sword does not disappoint. In fact I’m ecstatic over the blade detail.
My only TRUE wish would be to see the 6" line…and Mumm-Ra. Hope they don’t disappoint!

Ehh, something looks funny about Lion-O. The hair still looks like a wig. It would have been nice if it were all one molded piece, and not so jagged looking (his mane was more smooth in appearance in the cartoon and the LJN figure). That said, everything else looks pretty spot on. The eyebrows are visible here too.
Tygra looks, I don’t know, a bit awkward, like his face is too scrunched in or something. Also don’t really understand the blue for the costume again like the HH statue?? Maybe its the lighting of this pic, but if it really is a blue shaded costume, just is odd to me (I remember someone posting a frame of Tygra from the show against no background and them saying his costume was really blue, but some tint from the background or something always caused it to appear greenish).
That said my main thing I hope is that Tygra’s whip is bendable. It appears to be plastic (I would have preferred a nylon string), but if they go plastic, I hope its a very bendable plastic that can keep its shape so people can bend it around him in the classic “disappearing” look. Then again it’d need to be longer for that too.
I don’t know, I have mixed feelings about both of these so far.
