Nothing negative, i agree, the guys at the event were aware of the situation and the fervent admirers of Thundercats who are desperately trying to fish for the slightest info available.
In my opinion they hyped things up, hence this mysticism and ‘no photography signs’. So far everything works to their benefit. Thundercats is everywhere around the internet now.

I can not wait to see these at retail…I try to collect the MOTUC but the whole internet only aspect really turns me off/ slows my decision to purchase.
Nuh, he really doesn’t look like a Pokemon. In my opinion he is quite close to the original character along with the untransformed Mumm-Ra. The only real difference is that he has larger pointy ears.
I wonder if anyone’s noticed the huge spike in viewership on these boards over the past couple of days.
Before this news broke you’d be hard pressed to find more than 5 viewers on the Toy or Cartoon page at any day in the last couple of years.

I have a feeling we’re going to start seeing a spike in membership and posters over the next few weeks and months. Not all a good thing if anyone’s read Manny’s latest General Announcement posting.
I’m sure we’ll get some good people in here, but I’m also kind of worried about this place turning into a troll haven too. Oh well, comes with the territory and at least this place will start getting out there more.

Not sure how I feel about the telescoping aspect of the sword. It sounds great on paper, but I hope it isn’t like those cheap telescoping light sabers you used to see kids running around with in Wal-Mart. I hope the telescopic action isn’t cheaply made and holds firmly in place and sticks in whatever position you want to keep it in.
At this point it doesn’t surprise me. It also makes my head ache thinking about it. “Lion-O” (I use quotes purposefully here) already looks like he belongs in a Final Fantasy game instead. Snarf resembling a pokemon character would fit in with the rest of what we’ve seen so far. I just hope when/if they age “Lion-O” he comes to better resemble the true Lion-O we know and love.
I never said it was unethical. That’s blowing it to a level that is ridiculous. I said it was dumb. Not sour grapes and not jealousy. We’ve had this conversation in several places now so i’ll just sum up. The signs are there for a reason. The company has a business plan but the toys have to be shown so the buyers will put in pre-orders and hype the line. When someone walks in and takes pictures anyway, they leave respect behind and cause headaches for everyone involved. If you think WB didn’t yell at everyone involved, regardless of a positive outcome, you’re crazy. We ran the one pic MTV ran, as it was the wall and art on a giant wall is generally ok. We water marked it only because we did a clean up on it.
Also, every time someone does this, it gets more difficult for legit press to cover the lines. PR reps would rather you shoot nothing rather than have to watch you while you shoot the pre-approved items. Now let’s stop beating a dead horse. Damage done. Bandai is glad you’re happy but for the love of God, just wait two weeks and you’ll have all the pictures you want. You say you want to build a relationship with the company, but this is not the way to do it.
Two weeks..I have an appointment and if you want me to ask questions for you, just put them together and I’ll get them answered.
I would just point out that no one actually involved with the creation, maintenance or management of this site actually went in and shot these pics (or rather, the video these pics come from), they were shot by a member of our forums, uploaded to his webspace and hotlinked in a thread on our message board - so without wanting to be rude, you need to get your facts straight on that one.
Yes, you could make an argument about whether we should have taken these pictures down within a few seconds of them coming online in case WB / Bandai didn’t like it, but at the end of the day as I say above we’re not (nor would I ever want to be) an official site owned by Warners Bros, we’re a fan site run by fans, and if one fan wants to share information with other fans off their own bat, to be honest that’s what these message boards are here for.
Yes I’d love to see this site build up a working relationship with WB, Bandai and whoever else is involved with the ThunderCats license because I think it’s in everyone’s mutual interest - at the end of the day, as passionate fans who dip into our own pockets to keep this site online because we love the property, we want to see the ThunderCats brand succeed just as much as WB and their shareholders do. But, as it stands we’re just a fan site run by fans for other fans, and if that’s all WB ever regard us as, I can deal with that quite happily.
The Snarf pictured on the thundertank box just reminded me A LOT of pikachu. I guess its up to peoples opinion.
The classic figures look wicked BUT again they only showed artist concepts and not the actual hardcopies. The claw looked more detailed and it looked like he had more articulation.
It was funny how they were telling an American sales director that supply WILL exceed the demand. Like something a games console company does to gather hype.
Totally understood..not pointing fingers. I was just addressing the people saying others have a right to walk in and ignore the signs and encouraging others to do the same. It makes the whole board look bad, but it’s always going to happen. Its pretty much what keeps the suits calling us fan boys instead of coming to us for input up front.
I’m no expert on how He-Man.org and Mattel built their relationship, but what PaulNomad said here makes sense to me. If a company purposefully has a No Photography policy at a convention, it would make sense to me that one of the main sites trying to build a relationship with that company would respect that.
I don’t mean that as a slight to dr. slump, he’s just a fan here like the rest of us. I mean to say that site owners here would probably do better in trying to build a bridge by not allowing the photos and scans to stay up on the message boards.
That’s how they do it over at TRMK.org for Mortal Kombat and magazine scans. Some of the roster for the new upcoming game has been revealed in various magazines (Game Informer chiefly) and the site admins have a no scan policy there (some less accredited MK sites don’t care). I want to say He-Man.org has a no scan policy when new figs were revealed in Toyfare (before it went out of business recently) but I’m not certain of that.
Obviously whatever the mods and site owners here say is the policy, but I think PaulNomad is making a great point here, that while this is new and the site and brand relationship hasn’t been built yet (and as far as I know there’s been no announcement of any connections of the site owners with Bandai), that going forward it should really be considered whether allowing this kind of reveal would be good with trying to establish any sort of relationship between TCL.org and Bandai. If they have a no photography/leak policy, I mean I think that should really be considered going forward.
^^^^^^ Just my thoughts and speculations on the matter. Not meant as trying to call the mod/site owners, dr slump, or anyone else out on what happened. I’m happy with the new pics being shown. I’m just coming from the perspective of trying to at least bring about the possibility of building a bridge for fan input on the Classics 8" line that will be offered.
I totally understand your perspective and I’m pretty sure WB and Bandai were scrambling after the leaks. But you have to understand that if they really wanted this not to get out on the internet, they should have posted the signs, “NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED” rather than no photos.
Why not have a private area to display these items if it really is considered important?
I’ve been to Comic Con 11 years in a row and there are always signs that say no photography and yet, I see the same items on the internet the next day.
And I know this is trade event, but seriously…if someone who isn’t a retailer can get in, then it’s going to be on the internet, it is essentially a public event.
But yeah, if WB or Bandai has a problem, then they can definitely contact us and we will happily communicate with them.
All the signs say is no photography and so im not sure how i blurry iphone pic would me more than just a really good viral marketing tool for Bandai. And i FREE one at that

Just move forward with happy conversation and get questions together if you’d like me to deliver them, cause you better believe Bandai has a closed booth at NY Toy Fair and you need an appointment to get in there.
Noop, though I have an awesome one from thinkGeek! Everything should be greenlit for NY Toy Fair so I’ll shoot whatever is approved and snag official pics and info as soon as its available. It IS a race now though, so I suspect you’ll see plenty of pics somewhere else before I get mine up. MTV will now be sprinting over there.
In my opinion, if they wanted to make sure that no one will get any pictures or a video they should have stricter security. Even worse, they shouldn’t allow visitors to get in. And keep it open only for the retailers.
Two members have paid a visit to the London event and have sneaked away with photos. One of them was even seen taking a shot and then asked to leave. Don’t you think the convention organizers know about that!! and what is to follow!
So let’s stop kidding ourselves, their attention was to give the funs a bite of the cherry. They were counting on word of mouth. This is how big hits are hyped up.

The new Sword of Omens looks fantastic! And Cheetara is HAUT! Mrrrreeooowww! Liking Lion-O’s Claudis-esque armor, too. But other than that … I’m just not feeling these redesigns, sadly, with Tigra’s armor and gun (a gun!!!), comedically-disproportionate Panthro, Lion-O’s chibby eyes, etc. It’s unfortunately too much of what I don’t like about anime.
Aside from the Sword, I think the only thing I’ll collect are the classic 20cm figures. Good to see they’re in scale, for the most part, with the old LJN line and MOTUC. So glad I didn’t pay $60 now for a Lion-O staction. Now if we could only get a classic Thundertank…
