Thundercast

Just lately I’ve been looking into starting our first podcast again and it would make sense to get it up and running before the release of the new DVD set.

At the moment I still don’t have a mic, but hopefully that will change this weekend!

Already looked into how to record a Skype conference call and it seems you can get add ons that can record conferences in MP3 format for you.

Do we possibly have the Thundercats theme saved as an MP3 or wav file?

Also could someone make a Thundercast graphic? What I think would be a really cool idea would be Thunderca followed by the letters ‘ts’ revolving around to spell Thundercats first and then they revolve around to spell Thundercast. I’m guessing that would be possible using some flash software?

Let me know what you guys think! It would be cool to get an intro episode done for later this month and then the 2nd episode to review the S2V2 DVD set!

Chris here…

Neil, you read my mind! I’d love to see this project get going, as I feel that for this site to do a podcast would put us right at the cutting edge of the ThunderCats online community, and really show TCL leading the way! As you can tell, I’m really psyched for this idea, LOL!

I hope nobody is offended by me singling one person out, but the one thing I would say is, whoever else is with her, I would love to see Celesta taking part in the podcast - not only does she have a great “radio voice”, but also having one of the people involved in the S1V1 documentary involved in the podcast I think would bring some heavy credibility into an already exciting project!

Let’s get this party started!

Take care…

Well I believe we can have a maximum of 5 people on at a time.

So if 5 people want to do the intro show that’s cool.

Then after that, it will have to be teams of 3 or 4, but then there is no set rule on how often we put episodes up is there? If most of the team want to take part in reviewing the new DVD set, we might have to have 2 seperate review episodes.

Chris, definately agree with you about Celesta, but I think she is really busy just lately so we will have to see what she says. I guess we can discuss it further at the meeting saturday.

Chris here…

I think some of it will be dictated by which team members have the ability to speak verbally via Skype - for example, I believe I’m correct in saying, Neil, that you’ve yet to get a headset, ditto Martin? AFAIK, there’s only MannyF, MannyC, Kyle, Celesta and myself able to use the verbal capabilities of Skype at the present time, am I correct?

Sure, I understand that - it’s totally up to her obviously, I just think she’d be a huge asset to the project!

Take care…

Your probably right with that list. However like I said above, I will be added to the list of people with a headset within a week or so.

Chris here…

LOL, I completely missed that part of your post!! That’s brilliant news, Neil, I shall look forward to being able to speak to you verbally (assuming you don’t mind), and to your outstanding ThunderCats knowledge being employed to the full on our groundbreaking podcasts!

Take care…

LOL! Of course I’m gonna be part of the action if I’m organising the thing! lol

I’ll bet getting a headset fairly soon actually, despite assuring you of that for some time Chris lol
It’s turned out I need it for a number of projects I’m working on, and I’m gonna be doing an episode of Masterscast as well, so I need to practise my radio voice!

Ah, Mr Kallis has roped you in I see. Actually a crossover ep might happen. You never know!

Well from the response in this thread Chris it looks like the podcasts are gonna be just me and you (unless Martin gets his headset of course)

Well here is my plan for the first episode:

Intoductions:

*Podcast intro

  • Host: "Welcome to the first ever Thundercats podcast from the team at Thundercatslair.org, Thundercast episode 1 for saturday (date here)

  • Thundercats main theme

*Team Intos - each team member introduces themselves by first name, screen name, how long they have been a fan and how they came to join the site.

Other topics that can be discussed here are each persons favourite episode and characters (good and evil)

For any team members who are not part of the podcast team, we will briefly mention those people when we discuss the site history.

  • Site Intro (brief introduction of the site and it’s history and each member and which sections they are in charge of)

NEWS round up:

  • DVD sets (region 1 S2V2 and region 2 S1V1 impending releases)
  • New series
  • Concept art posted on a fan art site

Main discussion of episode 1: Exodus

With the aid of various sound clips, we can discuss the pilot episode of Thundercats in detail touching on various points like:

-TV pilot v.s. VHS released pilot
-When the original pilot aired (USA and UK)
-Lost intro
-Opening scenes, including naked Thundercats (daring for an kids cartoon series?)
-Sword of Omens
-Thundercats weaponary
-Edited out scenes on DVD version
-Mutants, Monkians and Jackalmans working together?
-Ssslithe their leader? Do the other mutants trust him?
-Odd that the Mutants know about the Sword of Omens existence yet Tygra doesn’t?
-Jaga dies (are does a death effect a kids cartoon series?)
-Music (especially the emotional scenes, good/bad?)
-Lion-o grown up but the Wily kittens remain the same? (why?)
-Mutants find Thundercats landed inside capsules, why don’t they destroy them rather than bang on the capsules?
-Jaga’s spirit form
-Monkian says “The Thundercats are loose” and then that part of the theme comes on (cheesy?)
-Will life on a new world be easy for the Thundercats?

Well that was my plan for the first episode. Whether we actually get to recording it or not I’m not sure with everyone being so busy :frowning:

I’d definately like to be involved once I get my headset, which I probably will early December when I get some money in

Sounds like a good plan to me Neil, and a good idea to discuss the pilot episode, since we’ll probably have a lot to say on it:)

Chris here…

You’ve come up with the perfect script there, Neil! double thumbs up

Just to reiterate, I’d definitely still like to be involved with this, and I’m sure some if not all of the others will too when their time constraints allow!

Take care…

Well, I thought I’d mention I finally got my headset!

Chris here…

Cool stuff, Martin, I’ll look forward to speaking with you verbally on Skype sometime when we’re both on!

Also, just to add that I think once Christmas and the New Year are both out of the way we should come back to this project - I passionately believe that this is something very important for TCL to do, and I want to make sure that we do it before anybody else does!!

Take care…

Great stuff Martin! I know Jon Kallis was after doing a NA episode for the next Masters Cast so I’m guessing that’s the one you will be co-hosting?

Well I still need to test the recording software. Really I should have had it going when me, you and Jon were on Chris :frowning: That would have been the perfect opportunity to test it. Oh well maybe we can get on very soon to test it out?

and yes we should definately get this project going again for sure! I think it would be really cool to review the region 2 S1V1 boxset in January. I know a few folks on he-man.org are intrigued about whether the UK set will have a better episode transfer than what they got on their R1 sets. So I’m sure it will be interesting and helpful to those too!

So ideally ep 1 will be the intro ep and cover Exodus, while ep 2 can review the S1V1 set. After that maybe we should do one monthly? I know Jon wishes that was the format they had adopted from day 1 because I think he hinted at the fact they are running out of ideas for topics. But then I guess we can see how we go after getting the first 2 episodes completed.

Chris here…

I’ll definitely do my best - although, my #1 priority for this week is getting as much content as possible ready for the site relaunch! I still have piles of stuff to work through! :frowning: I have visions of working on the site inbetween mouthfuls of Christmas turkey!

I agree with all of your thoughts and suggestions, Neil - once the site relaunch is out of the way in January, I will hopefully be able to take my foot off the gas enough to devote some time and mental energy to this project, as I say it’s something I feel very strongly about us doing!

Take care…

Hey guys, I bought a headset today and wanted to test it out…it was working when I first tried it, but now something went wrong. If anyone is online and wants to help me test my headset, I’ll be on Skype for an hour or so.

UPDATE!

I THINK I finally got my headset to work! There was a beta version of Skype out for Vista and I found the secret link to it!

I downloaded a recording software and was wondering if anyone was going to be available today (Monday) to test if everything works. The software has a 31 day trial and if things sound good then I’ll go ahead and purchase the full version.

I’ll be going to work around 3:30PM my time (PST) so hopefully someone can come online and help me test just for a brief time.

Just wanted to start the podcast project up again and finally get it going. I also was playing around with some free editing software. Unfortunately, the one I was eyeing for isn’t free, so the free one will have to do. I was talking to myself for a good hour…LOL. Anyhow, that’s my update…hopefully I can get up early (3AM right now) so I can chat with someone.

By the way, thanks again to Chris for helping me earlier!

Very cool Manny, can i suggest though that you could perhaps use the little funds that we have available in TCL’s PayPal account to pay for the editing software. We could however look into getting the software or any of that software via torrents  You can post here what the software is and once i sign up at Demonoid I can check on it. Why pay for it when you can get it for free

I’ve looked Manny, trust me…that’s what I do before I buy software.

Pamela for Skype is 24.95 so that isn’t too bad. There is a 12.95, but it only records for 30 minutes. The 24.95 is unlimited recording.

As for the podcasting editing software, there is a software called propaganda which makes editing drag and drop, but it’s very expensive (49.99) and I’ve looked for a torrent on that to no such avail. The good news is, I’m going to be doing a Filipino podcast so if that goes through I might have a reason to purchase Propaganda since I’ll be using it for more than one project and makes the price seem a little reasonable. Until then, I’ll have to use the freeware, which isn’t too bad…just a little time consuming, or should I say very time consuming. :duh:
