Appologies for double post.. but this is a completely seperate issue.
I recieved an email moments ago from my apple host indicating that my data transfer rate is high for this month, which could lead to my sites being turned off. Therefore I must insist that although it will be more of a fuss to update, we will have to host the thundercast site on TCL.ORG…
I will have to look into how this will effect the link to iTunes… My problem that I will rectify asap.. I will keep you posted.
Hey Kyle is there a way to find out how many people have subscribed to the podcast via iTunes and/or find out how many people downloaded the podcast via the site? I’m intrigued to see how many people are listening…
Ok guys, I have had to take the thundercast site offline for now as my monthly limit is on 95% and will cut off very soon. To avoid this I will have to move it onto ours, but this will add complications with iTunes.
I really need to spend some time sorting this out.. which i will do asap.
And to Manny, iTunes does not provide this info unfortunately
That sucks. Did you want me to make a temporary page for the podcast Kyle? We could use it as a placeholder until you can get things working…I thought the RSS feed was linking to the file in the thundercast directory on the main site, I didn’t know you were actually hosting the file.
I note Tim’s (Voice Guy’s) comments at the end - just to throw a random suggestion out there (and I’d emphasise I have no strong opinion about this myself, this is just a random thought), what would you guys think about possibly inviting Tim to be a “guest panelist”, if you like, on a future ThunderCast, a few episodes down the line? I have to say I wouldn’t want Tim back on the team particularly because, if I’m being brutally honest, I don’t think the quality of his work or ThunderCats knowledge is up to the same standard as his ThunderCats passion - but, it might be a nice “goodwill gesture” to invite him to join us on a podcast that we could effectively “guide”. shrugs Like I say, no strong opinions on my part, but just wanted to get some reactions!
I worry for the podcast project because first the poor sound and now problems with the hosting and downloading of the podcasts doesn’t look good
Can we make sure that folks downloading the podcast from itunes can definately get it please? Because if someone comes up with an error message that the podcast is no longer up to download then they won’t bother returning for future episodes.
As for the site, can’t the existing pages just be moved over into the ‘Thundercast’ folder and then the clickable links on those pages changed around?
If required I’m happy to come on later tonight and help sort this out for a couple of hours. It’s something that needs doing immediatly, otherwise we will lose potential listeners!
I’m gonna also make this thread a sticky because I feel it’s the most important thing right now to sort out.
iTunes sent me an email saying the podcast was removed because of technical problems with the RSS feed (which we know about)…just a heads up to Kyle just in case he didn’t get the message.
We’re going to have our problems Neil…everyone’s dealing with this for the first time. I’m sure we’ll be able to get everything sorted out. I know that if I use the recording software I have, I am pretty sure we won’t have any echoes or whatnot. As an avid listener to A LOT of podcasts (I subscribe to almost 10 now), the sound varies from listener to listener and even the professional guys have audio problems so don’t worry.
No problem manny.. I did contact iTunes to remove the the podcast whilst this is all sorted out. Sorting this out isn’t as straight forward as it may appear, so I would appreciate a degree of patience whilst I rectify this for long term.
Just a heads up that I bought a new headset which i briefly tested with Kyle and he has stated that it is definitely much better than the other one I had. If anyone else would like to chat via Skype using the headsets Im all for it as I need to make sure that it works 100%. I realize this problem is something that could be sorted out I would like to suggest that while this is being sorted out that we could plan another podcast even if it’s toy related which can be easily done. If not then we can hold off until the current problem gets sorted out.
Ok guys.. I have the Thundercast site back up and running, from our host. The mp3 file is available to listen to and download from our site. All I am waiting on is the confirmation that it has been re-added to iTunes.
The only slight glitch may be people already subscribed to the podcast from its original location may need to subscribe.
Manny if you could keep posted for a confirmation email then we should be rocking.
Ok guys I have updated the information on godaddy and its working like a charm. As of now www.thundercast.net is being updated and www.thundercast.org is working.
Excellent Kyle, thanks for sorting that out. I have a sigh of relief now! lol
I do hate to nag, but I’m very passionate about site stuff and I’m not one to miss a good opportunity at promoting this site further.
Hopefully, now we can look to nail down a date for the recording of episode 2!
I’ll start a new thread for it!
EDIT: Manny, could you get a link to the podcast section up on the front of the site somewhere? I know it’s featured in the news, but it would be cool to have it in the actual links! What is the ‘coming soon’ link earmarked for? Would it be possible to add the ‘Thundercast’ link there for the time being until we make a proper button for it?
Ok Guys, I am looking at sorting the podcast issues out ready for episode 2 to go live. If somebody could write me the infor about Episode 2 to go onto its page that would be great.. will post up when it is live.
Thanks for all your hard work, Kyle! If everyone’s happy with me doing it, I’ll try and get a piece written up for episode 2 ASAP…
Also, can I be a pain and mention that, on the ThunderCast site, the “Episodes” page is displaying dreadfully for me - every graphic has a broken link red “X” in the corner, even though all the graphics are displaying! :? I could just be the way it displays for me - could I suggest that this be looked into…?
EDIT: OK, how about this for blurb for Episode 2:
In Episode 2, Chris, Neil, Kyle, MannyF and MannyC discuss and review both the US and UK DVD releases of Thundercats Season 1 Part 1, as well as round up all the latest Thundercat news.
…Yeah, I know it’s kind-of boring, but to be honest I half-think it’s all that’s needed. What do you guys think?
Right… sorry about all these posts.. this is the one you need to read.
I have spent my day today learning how to write RSS Feed XML documents. I have re-written the feed and am pretty confident I have eliminated our problems. I have re-submitted it to iTunes and am just awaiting confirmation through feedback@thundercatslair.org
If somebody could check this for mail over the next day or so I would appreciate it.. I am very keen to see if this has worked.
