Season two would would end this particular story, that is the cat’s struggle against Mumm-Ra (most likely turning his troops against him and driving him back into his coffin for awhile). That doesn’t mean there still aren’t stories to tell, especially if the Generals turn against Mumm-Ra, but also refuse to work with the cats they could still be a thorn in their side for a third season. There’s also the Lunataks and the Beserkers to consider. The Lunataks could be tied more closely with Third Earth’s moon, possibly escaping some kind of confinement during an eclipse and set to conquer Third Earth as the had ages before Mumm-Ra’s pyramid crashed.

I agree with Mike. Plus Hammy’s point about not every CN show having a successful toyline. Seems like Avatar didn’t have much of a toyline (or at least it was crap and died early) but the show did quite well regardless.
The lion’s share (pun intended) of sales from the Thundercats figures is going to go to Bandai to 1. recoup the initial payout to WB for the license and 2. cover the expense of tooling and production of the toys. Any royalties WB would get would probably be to small to actually fund a season’s worth of shows.
I would say the roll of merchandise sales that would play on the show would be that it keeps the property in the forefront of peoples attention and therefore increases the chances of continual viewership of the show, thus helping to justify it’s ongoing existence.
Exactly, especially now that it has FINALLY started opening up in other markets too like Europe, S.America etc. Bring on the UKs autumn merchandise push!
If the show still has a rating of more than 1.5 million viewers every week . not counting the worldwide fans . it will eb just crazy to not do another season …

That’s exactly right. Bandai gets most of the profits from the toys. They’re the ones making them. To think the WB or CN gets all the toy profit is just ridiculous. They make their money from Ad revenue and DVD sales/itunes downloads.
The ratings start to do justice on this great Series.
Now, i don’t mean to feed on negativity and be a pessimist but i really do hope we hear official word after the last episode 26 airs in about a month from now which confirm the return of Thundercats for the next Seasons.
I’d be really disappointed if they suddenly decide to cut them off.
Mate the official word so far is that they are on hiatus, and I emphasise this last part, NOT cancelled.
The problem here is that you are basically going to get a year + break between seasons. This seemed to work well for shows like The Sopranos, Rescue Me, Mad Men, etc. The problem is the way CN would handle it would be similar to the way they handled the Total Drama series: Boom, it just showed up over a year after the last episode aired. I would be expect to see Season 2 (3 whatever you want to call it) in the early spring or summer of 2013. And in between that months of uncertainty.

I think exactly the same mate, CN are appalingly incompetent when it comes to promoting TC, so we’ll hear nothing until next summer then it will just appear. Probably at roughly the same time this series aired.
Micahel i remember that statement but i keep wondering, if lets say they start airing January/February 2013, how feasible is that? since the line would inevitably die after such a long time, logically the toyline will stall off as well. I dread to speak or think of a longer hiatus…
Regularly, they should start around September/October after this summer ends like most New Seasons, i don’t understand how the hiatus will keep Thundercats alive.
Well putting like that would mean every show has that problem and they are fine right? They have enough time to air Reruns while they are making new episodes.
I think as long as they’re allowed to Dan and Matt and everyone would at least tell us they’re starting production. But you are right that CN would probably wait til a week or two before it premieres to tell anyone.
Yeah they can fit reruns in and one day a marathon.
Clone Wars ended in March and won’t be back until September. I know they have/used to have a line. Seems like the same difference.

Cartoon Network. Even the ones working on the show has said before this is season one and given statements like “we wont know if a season two will be made before season one finishes it’s run”.
That’s not a direct quote but something in line of those words were said.

Many other shows have long hiatus’ and are absolutely fine. Remember we have reruns as well in the meantime, the cartoon is only just beginning to air in many countrys, and we are getting a lot of merchandise being released over the summer/autumn period (for example the computer game in sept according to amazon and wave 2 in autumn). The franchise will do well, don’t worry.
