So I guess we should think about nailing down a time to record episode 2 of Thundercast! Actually MannyC got me thinking that it might be cool to record both episode 2 and 3 at the same time if possible, then release them seperate…But then that depends on what everyone else thinks. Once I know, I can ask Andrew McCabe if he will be free to join us on episode 3!
As for the recording times, at the minute my best time would be a saturday night as I can do any saturday. I’m also not restricted by how long I can stay on, on a saturday.
So if it works for everyone else, how about:

I would have suggested this saturday (26th) but it’s probably too short notice.
I can’t do Saturday 2nd June, as I’m playing at a festival that night with two different bands - even though I should be home by midnight, if I’m being completely honest after 2 hours playing I will be completely knackered and slightly hoarse! It might be a good date to record episode 3, though, given that I don’t really have much to contribute to a toy-based podcast.
The good news is that, after Saturday 2nd June, I am currently free every Saturday evening for the rest of the month, and whilst I would expect that to change, if you guys like to pin down a date now, I’ll put it in my diary and make sure I’m available!
Am I right in thinking that you guys wanted me to host episode 2? If so, I’m up for it! If you’d rather someone else did it, though, that’s also cool, just LMK!
I really wouldn’t be much use in a toy based podcast either, so I don’t mind being excluded. I should be free for June 2nd though if required. Just let me know, and if possible post the general areas of discussion before hand so I can get up to speed..
Yeh that sounds cool, if possible in any way slightly earlier would be better for me, in terms of not waking people in my house… but if this messes up the US times then don’t worry about it..
Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be able to do any of these. I was hoping it might have been some point next week, as I have the house to myself, but as such, I don’t think I’m going to be able to do one of these with the late times and my laptop broken.
That would work very well for me, both the date (for episode 2) and the time (which is technically 00:30am on the Sunday, just to confuse everyone, LOL!). Like Kyle, if it could be, say, half an hour earlier that would possibly be helpful to me, but I’m cool with whatever.

That’s a real shame, my friend, as I personally would love to have a podcast veteran like yourself on board! I would have suggested trying for recording episode 2 this coming Saturday (26th May) as a means of having you on board, but as it stands I have a rehearsal with one of my bands in the evening, which is likely to keep me out until quite late!
ok, the best thing would be for everyone to note down their available days and times over the next fortnight and then we should be able to organise a time to suit everyone!

#2 sounds interesting but since we’re moving and very busy lately I doubt I can make it At that time, it’s hard to say if I’ll have online service. I’ll probably be in between providers then.
Just for future reference, the ET times being in the evening don’t work well for me anyway…by then my family is home and I’m busy helping my kid with homework or something and making dinner - all that glamorous housewife stuff :lol: But I know other people work during the day so there’s no pleasing us all

My availability this coming week isn’t great - although I’m around a lot during the day I’m out on Saturday night (26th May), Sunday night (27th May), Tuesday night (29th May), Wednesday night (30th May), Friday night (1st June), Saturday night (2nd June), and Sunday night (3rd June).
After that, at the present time I am around in the evenings on Monday 4th June & Tuesday 5th June, and then from Thursday 7th June through to Tuesday 12th June. That will definitely start to fill up between now and then, but at the moment, that’s my availability!
as I mentioned to mannyc the other day I dont have a mic as of yet and dont really know if I will be able to actually get one by the date of the podcast. Maybe I can get one in a few weeks (honestly its not really something ive thought about though, im more concerned with getting a new comp) Therefore im probably counted out on the toys discussion. sorry guys
Well I don’t have anything planned at the moment for any of the dates mentioned except June 3rd (Sunday) my cousin is graduating from UCLA so I’m probably going to be out the entire day. I missed the first recording because of church so that might be an issue again if we record during the same time as the first episode.
If we’re recording two podcasts, how long would that be? I’m assuming that episode one took longer than what was actually edited and we have to expect we might have problems again, not with sound, but with people dropping in and out like last time. I just want to know how much time I need to reserve.
As a side note I think though that although the toys may not be a lot of people’s expertise it would be cool to have someone other than Neil to give their 2 cents on experiences as a kid with the toys and what not
Manny makes a very good point here. It’s not like we plan on making a radio documentary on them! lol!
If you had them as a kid or even if you saw them in a toy store as a kid, that works too However I guess it can work with me and both Manny’s doing the episode 3 podcast. However I do think it works best with 4 people on each podcast so if possible I would prefer to keep that number up.
and we definately need either MannyF or Kyle there as nobody else has the set up to record! So I’m afraid the recording sessions WILL HAVE TO work around either of their schedules.
It just occurred to me…am I the only gal in this bunch?
Anyway, neither podcast is going to work for me, and future ones would be better if they happened earlier Eastern Time. Evenings are my ‘family time’ for the most part. Sometimes I am still online but anyone who has seen my status on messenger would agree that I go idle a lot and without warning during that time so to stay put long enough to record a podcast is pretty impracticle for me.
As for the timings, to be honest, if an episode were recorded, say, 4 hours earlier than the time Neil mentioned, that would work fine for me, as that would still only be 8:30pm UK time. The only time it would be a problem would, of course, be if I was out for the evening, but then that would also apply if we recorded at half-midnight, so…
It is kind-of tough to get everyone in one spot, which is why I think it’s a good idea to have different combinations of the team for different podcasts, because hopefully then everyone gets a shot at it. I’d love to see you, Angie, and Martin, get to feature on these at some time in the future, I know you’d have a lot to contribute!
In terms of time, I think the last one took something like 3 hours to do all told, so I’d guess at around that sort of time. My one question about you doing the recording Manny is, have you been able to solve the problem you encountered when we did the test recording of your voice being “out-of-sync” with the rest of us? That was the major factor that made Kyle’s recording software appeal to me, if you’ve been able to get that technical issue sorted for yours, then I definitely think it would be a great idea to give yours a shot!
Something (perhaps slightly controversial) that I am going to say is that I do think that future podcasts should be a little bit shorter in length than the last one - that’s purely my personal opinion, but I would say that, apart from Masterscast, all the other podcasts I’ve downloaded have all been 25 minutes at the most. I’m not suggesting for a second that we should aim to be that short, but if we could maybe try and aim for 50 - 60 minutes’ worth of content? What do you guys think?
I aree that we should possibly do one recording earlier on, to allow input from Angie and Martin.. how about one episode featuring Chris, myself, Angie and Martin.. and any others who are avaliable earlier on??
Also I agree with Chris about the time scale… one of the reasons my bandwidth went off the chart was due to how massive the file was.. and that was compressed severley. Maybe 25 mins would be better for future recordings.
PS. Before the podcast was taken off… it was the highest possible popularity bar :)… check us out!
Yeah, I agree - in theory I think that anyone who wants to take part in this should be able to at some point. As far as I’m aware out of the team it’s only Mark and Matt who haven’t yet got headsets, and I think Mark was thinking about getting one, as I believe he suggested an episode of ThunderCast (or at least a segment of same) about Animation Art, which I think would make for a very interesting podcast that IMO could, if promoted well, have cross-the-board appeal to other collectors of animation art (not just ThunderCats fans). But now I’m rambling…
Well, I’m not sure with four or five of us on a “panel” that it would be possible to scale it back that far, but I definitely think that an hour should be the maximum length - episode 1 was 80 minutes, and that IMO is too long for a regular (non-introductory) episode. It should, however, not be too hard to trim down given that future episodes won’t need the introductory stuff about how this site came to be, who each member of the team is, etc.
I’d also add, the podcasts that I’ve downloaded that have been the short length I’ve described have all been edited and put together like news broadcasts - for example, I listen to a couple of podcasts about tennis, which tend to comprise, say, a news round-up, followed by a short interview, followed by a feature piece, etc., all with music and “jingles” to break the material up. Ours is kind-of more like a “talk show” than a “news cast”, and so in that respect I think that lends itself to a longer format - but, I still think it should be 60 minutes at the maximum!
The final thing I’d add is that, when I downloaded ThunderCast episode 1 via iTunes, it actually took something like 17 minutes to download on what is a high-speed broadband connection - so again, IMO that needs shaving down a touch.
That’s awesome news, Kyle! Hopefully we can sustain that and enjoy some great success with this project - it’s been a long time coming, but now it’s all coming good!
