Hey guys, I’m new and the whole reason for me to sign up here was Pumyra! She has always been my fave from the original (back when I was in kindergarten) and it was a let down to find out years later that she wasn’t featured in the show that much, so I dunno how I came to love her during her brief appearance.
Anyway when the NS aired, I was more excited about Pumyra than anything else, wondering when or if she’ll be showing up. And I remember telling my brother that they should make her a cool, badass character this time round. Imagine my joy when she appeared (just when I was thinking they’re probably saving the new cats for the 2nd season just like in the OS) exactly like I hoped she’d be.
So here I am, ready to talk my head off about her
I think the fan response has been great from what I’ve seen on the web although she’s just arrived. In case the writers are thinking about making her a part time Thundercat, they should reconsider after the hype.
And I wonder if the other fans of the character were/are also fans of the OS version or is it just for this fierce one? :pumyrahappy:
Quoted for truth. If I had to describe the old Pumyra, I would say she was loyal (often when Lynx-O or Bengali ordered to be left behind and for the others to save themselves, Pumyra would always refuse and stand by her countrymen).
I liked the OS Pumyra as well and was annoyed as a kid that she wasn’t featured in the old show more prominently. I think part of the problem was that the OS Cheetara was highly developed at that point and had already taken a lot of potential character traits away, so Pumyra became sort of a redundant entity. The two female characters had a lot of overlap.
In the NS, they’ve made sure to give them both very different personalities and backgrounds. I could not really picture Pumyra being a part-time character at this point, she brings a certain balance and dynamic to the group that was missing (and her absence at this point would really stand out).
As far as attractiveness, the OS Pumyra is actually a bit prettier, I will agree with Hellcat on that one. Although like others, I’m not a fan of the “skunk stripe” and I’m glad they changed that one detail.

I’ll give you the new edition is more expressive, the old one is a bit more “classical” in her profile and facial structure. What can I say, I dig that Greek Athena-goddess sort of look. But I like the reboot too.
The new Pumyra has a more tasteful outfit too, not sure what was up with the cutout one-piece of the OS version. She looked like she was an extra from “Fame” or something. Then again, so did the OS Cheetara. All she needed was a set of leg warmers.
The leg warmers would be hilarious! But yeah, I see what you’re saying with the whole “Greek Goddess” thing. I just like her better in the new one because she’s so different (more personality-wise than anything).
They’re both pretty but I think the new Pumyra has more of a “wow” factor in the looks department when compared to the old one,that’s just my personal preference though. I don’t think she knows how pretty she is though, it may be a issue later on if she still thinks Lion-O is hung up on Cheetara.
The old Pumyra will always be the Pumyra, few episodes and lack of personality or not. And I totally agree with the classic look thing, same goes for the other characters as well. But I’ve never thought she was supporting a Greek Goddess look. In fact, only recently I thought they were going for an Athena/Artemis comparison, with the poster in “The Pit”:
But long story short, I like em both and I’m just happy that they made the new version cooler! It’s great that the writers are taking her to the place the original utterly failed to do so.
By the way I dunno if it’s been mentioned before but I realized something: pumas do not roar, as well as cheetahs and lynxes. They threw in a lil roar once or twice in the mix of the sounds Pumyra makes but at least they got hissing and higher pitched screeching right.
Yeah I mentioned it a little while back in the pit speculation thread I think, when someone mentioned they didn’t like the throaty growl of Pumyra (guess they’ve got used to it now). I mentioned that the Puma’s roar is quite low and throaty, compared to a cheetahs or a lions, and if it was an intentional thing on the part of the casting then they did very well indeed.
