I remember reading that some of the posters here would very much like to see the Warrior Maidens in the NS, and frankly, i would probably like that too.
My only gripe is that if and when they make an appearance, i’m worried there might be a few sexist comments thrown in somewhere (that tends happen when a series shows a society dominated by women).
Plus, since the series is taking a more realistic tone (sometimes too much in my opinion), i would assume that this time, the Warrior Maidens would be the highest form of authority in their society, rather than just be nothing but women (that would beg the question: how do they reproduce?)
As far as this Lion-O/Willa romance theory goes, if it does happen, i foresee two kinks the relationship; 1.) Naturally, Lion-O’s going to be a bit hesitant to open his heart up again after having it broken once and ripped and stomped on another time. 2.) If Willa is Ms. Right for Lion-O, she might find herself conflicted about having feelings for a Cat (she may have a desire to bear children one day, and she knows Lion-O will never be able to provide her with any)
My thoughts extracted from the Romance thread: For the Warrior Maidens to actually make an appearance in the NS, they’d have to be of either alien origin or even zapped back from time (aka Earth when it was populated by humans) by an enemy who wants them dead. Say…Ta-She?!
I’m working on a fanfic about this, actually. My theory is that the Warrior Maidens are born out of the earth itself and every time one of them dies their body is taken to a muddy bog on the outskirts of their village and placed inside it. Shortly after a new one is born as an infant out of the same bog, so there’s a bit of a reincarnation theme going on there.
Also they’re big, the average-sized ones are as tall as Panthro. I will freely admit that I stole that idea from Darwyn Cook’s version of Wonder Woman as seen in “The New Frontier” where she completely dwarfs Superman.
They’ve also been on Third Earth since before Mumm-Ra’s ship crashed and are fairly xenophobic, having watched the other animals bicker and war amongst themselves for centuries. They’ve secluded themselves inside their forest, encouraging rumors that it’s haunted in order to turn away trespassers More persistent ones are sometimes allowed to live the rest of their lives in the village, but most are killed.
They have a highly ritualized and structured code of conduct with most violations ending in death. They consider themselves one family with each Maiden regarding the others as her sisters although some of them do form closer family units with younger Maidens they personally raised and looked after (like Willa and Nayda) and yes, some of them form same-sex relationships. Others will head outside the woods, grab a man they want and drag him back to the village as her own (or take one from the small stock of captured intruders if there are any), so there may be a few of them in the village at any given time, but they don’t need then to continue their society.
I’ve thought about this possibly a little too much.
I never said they consider death itself a bad thing, it’s a natural part of life along with birth, but prolonged war and suffering is because it also hurts the earth which is pretty much their mother. If a Maiden herself violates the code and she dies they can place her in the bog where a new one will be born in her place and if it’s one of the prisoners their lives are considered a small price to pay in order to keep their peace. Besides they knew the law, the consequences, and broke it anyway.
I thought about this topic and I came up with my headcanon, that when the Animals landed on Third Earth, Third Earth was our Earth. The Animals encountered humans, and, naturally, conflict and inter-species tensions immediately arose. Eventually, the humans can’t fight off the Animals and go off and settled into the most isolated parts of Third Earth and form settlements/tribes that stay in contact with each other. Over time, they encourage rumors that only danger lurks beyond the human settlements, while others just state (read: lie) that there is nothing out there.
Also, over time, some of the human settlements become patriarchal, while others are more matriarchal. The Amazon Maidens belong to a human colony/tribe that was formerly very patriarchal but the colony is becoming less so. Anyway, my theory/headcanon for the Amazon Maidens is that they are the bodyguards of the current queen and is tasked with protecting her and her family and the group got its name from Willa, who came up with by being inspired by the Amazons of Greek mythology.
As Lion-O X Willa, hell, I’m game and down for it. (I shipped this couple in the OS and was hoping for an opportunity for this ship in NS while trying to be open to Pumyrion-O). But I agree. The problems I can see arising from this is Lion-O having a hard time opening up after what happened with Cheetara and Pumyra, both him and Willa feeling conflicted about having feelings for someone outside their race/species and then dealing with the fact they might not be able to have children. Also, I would have to wonder how the writers would be able to pull that type of relationship off without upsetting/squicking people out.
If the theory that there are no humans in the NS are correct then there’s no stopping them from being something entirely new. They could even be some form of plant life (similar to the petalars, but look more human), and that would explain why there’s only one gender.
How bout this: After Viragor stopped the Wood Forgers he creates the Warrior Maidens from the magic of the forest to help him protect it. Maybe even basing their forms on female Thunderians in honor of the ThunderCats helping him out. He did seem to take quite a liking to Cheetara with giving her that staff and all.
I thought it would be a nice touch to have Willa use the majestic plural mostly because it would be a quick and easy way to get into her head when she becomes conflicted and slips up plus she seems like the most likely character to use it. Mumm-Ra is to selfish to, Lion-O’s humility would never allow him to, but Willa would very much think of herself as the mouthpiece for her nation and would refer to herself as such. And like I said before, when she slips up and start referring to herself singularly it shows that she’s feeling angry and/or very possessive without having to state it outright.
As for Nayda, well in the original series she was always far more open to working with the Thundercats and advocates for them several times with her more stubborn sister so I figured the hell with it. She immediately sympathizes and trusts Lion-O because she can see the goodness and sorrow in him.

My theory (which I incorporated into my fic) is that they are literally born out of the earth and are deeply connected to it. The reason why they can live and thrive without another gender is because when one of them dies they place the body into a muddy bog where a new one will be born out it a short time later. This way when one of them just disappears without a trace it’s especially horrific because they cannot complete the ritual to exchange the life lost for a new one.
If there are no humans in the reboot then say if the Warrior Maidens get added in anyway, what if they’re all female cats? The show’s versions of amazons.
