I dunno, Tygra doesn’t seem to be acting any more mature in that scene either. He was just acting more ‘cool’ about it because he’s not worried about Lion-O (since Lion-O has never beat him at anything he cares about so far and all).
If anything, it looks like a vital part of their dynamic to treat everything as a competition when applicable and I really don’t see that changing at all even when Tygra grows up a little. He’ll probably just act a little less arrogant (like it’s not a forgone conclusion that he’ll ‘win’) in future competitions for them.
Hmm. Considering that came right after Tygra admitted to losing the the throne/sword, Im willing to bet he doesn’t REALLY feel that way. Like he’s still going to always win. Sure he commented about Lion-O never beating him before, but its like he said. The sword made up its mind. , He admitted he lost. He even tells Lion-O to believe in himself.
A striking difference compared to how he acted int he beginning of Journey to The Tower of Omens. I was actually expecting some form of snark. Instead I got Tygra encouraging his brother. Wow.
Then there the comment Tygra made during the battle against Viagor ( Maybe the sword was wrong about you/ changed its mind). His comment was actually inconsistent with the rest of his dialog in this particular episode.
Yeah,I think he’s beginning to see (a sliver of) the potential in his brother. And his comment in the battle was given with a smile, so I’m debating on the seriousness of it vs say it for the lulz - just b/c the opportunity is there to say it. COMPLETELY UNAPPROPRIATE at the time but, hey, snarky tiger. He’s got to have moments that make you say, “Donkey.” :rolleyes:
Dead on, Tygra talks a big game but I really think we learn more about who Tygra really is when he has his silent moments or has a few quiet words of honesty. I really think picking on Lion-O about the sword is the sour grapes Tygra is having a hard time swallowing and its going to take a while, but despite himself he’s getting proof that Lion-O is becoming more than his screw up little brother, he’s becoming a king and still I think the striped cat knows Lion-O needs his encouragement, even if it kills Tygra to do it he offered his support when he didn’t have to.
This episode was very “meh” for me, definitely my least favorite so far. I enjoyed the bird character and the lesson that Lion-O learned, but those Paper Warriors were beyond lame. Whenever they were on screen it felt like I was watching Power Rangers.
I really don’t understand why it was written that there was a school in the forest instead of just those three harvesting the wood. Not showing any students made it seem like a rushed idea and only served to turn me against the Paper Warriors more. Lame and sloppily handled, not a great combination.
I didn’t have a problem with the line. I don’t think either character is sleazy enough to see her as an object to be won. Lion-O was just letting Tygra know that he is aware they are both interested in Cheetara but that doesn’t mean he is going to step aside. They are both competitive in nature so the line was naturally “May the best cat win”.
Lets not forget the very nice moment Tygra had when he Caught Cheetara as she fell from Viragor. That look between them as she is caught and then looks at him. It was like he was saying I will always be here for you. And what woman doesn’t like being rescued, kept off her feet, and being held in big strong arms. Tygra got booku points with that one.
oh my gosh another crappy episode im not sure how many more of these i will watch, the only saving grace right now for me is the animation everything else is either badly written or just poor in terms of the way they r going with all the childish issues and majjor plotholes that make u wanna change the channel],basically no direction
A little late. Had to take a break. Between the release of Skyrim, CN’s sneak peek at the Green Lantern series, and National Metal Day on VH1 Classic, I’ve had kind of a full plate of late.
I thought it was a fairly good episode. The biggest and most pleasant surprise was that OS series vet Peter Lawrence wrote it! Just goes to show that when you don’t have so many restrictions on you as to what you can and can’t write and have some good quality people working around you, you can spin a cracking good yarn! While the first few minutes made me think that he thought he was writing for the OS, he quickly found a grasp on the new versions of the characters and made them his own.

[li]Good to see that there was some acknowledgement of the potential rivalry between Lion-O and Tygra for Cheetara’s affections. “May the best cat win” indeed! I have a feeling that if Lawrence or the other writers ever tried to do anything like this in the OS, there’d be a big red note in the script margin from Jules Bass saying “K.W.G.” (Kids Won’t Get) and ask it be removed in the next draft.[/li][li]The Wood Forgers were pretty cool. I didn’t think they were villains, really. I thought they were more misguided. From the dialogue, I got the feeling that maybe they were heroes who had lost their way and just needed to be set straight again; which ties in to the episode’s theme of being able to see the big picture.[/li][li]So…they use paper for everything, including building material for the school? Why do I have a feeling the big fight at the end could have been resolved a whole lot quicker if one of the Thundercats just had a book of matches? ;)[/li][li]Zig’s “School for Gifted Origami Folders” only has him and two other people as the faculty? Where are all the other students? Or was that just a ruse?[/li][li]Like Movie Brat, I could see where this was going once I saw that paper mill with the smoke coming out of its stacks. At least there was no mention of the Wood Forgers dumping mercury in the river! If you ever saw the movie [I]Prophecy[/I], you know some very bad stuff went down because of that. Though come to think of it, if given the choice between a pi**ed-off mutated Grizzly bear and Viragor, Viragor would be the more preferable option! At least him you could reason with.[/li][li]I was glad that Lion-O learned the Sword of Omens couldn’t be used against good (or used for evil, if you prefer) on his own, unlike in the OS where Jaga popped-in like a cross between Obi-Wan Kenobi and a video game tutorial and simply told him so. It makes me respect Lion-O more as a hero that he’s capable of figuring things out for himself. In the OS, it always felt to me like the answers were more or less handed to him. And that’s one of the reasons I always thought the OS Lion-O was kind of a dunderhead. I have the feeling Lawrence probably felt that way, too and took the opportunity here to help rectify that situation. Aside from the Wood Forgers, whose M.O. didn’t really make a lot of sense when you really thought about it, this was a pretty decent episode. I gave it a 7 out of 10.
I got the impression in the first episode that Tygra is a bit of the ladies man and has probably had much success in the past with them. He was flirting with Cheetara when she presented the sword though he didn’t know who she was. I think Tygra is smooth and relaxed and conveys confidence. So if Lion-O is turning this into a competition, I think Tygra knows the game better than his younger brother.
However, I couldn’t wager to guess if Cheetara might end up with either one of them and if so, who. If she catches wind that they’ve made her a prize, it could blow up in both their faces.
The Answer is Really simple if you look at it Cheetara will end up with Panthro. Either that or she will deny them all as a Priestess. :o Hows that for a twist.
I liked this episode more than the previous ones… still kinda childish though.
Guys, I think we’ve lost the big picture here: Magi Oar → rearrange the letters, just liek the Wood Forger did with the pieces of paper to get Lion-o’s face… Magi Oar = Origami (except for an “a” instead og an “i”, but I think the idea was that)
I liked Lion-o’s and Tygra’s chat at the beginning. Tygra has grown to accept his condition, and he was even more encouraging and supportive, but he made it clear he won’t let Lion-o take Cheetara also. And I liked that they set it clear their mutual interest on her. Tygra also seemed supportive by the end when told Lion-o to put what he learnt on practice.
Cheetara had a nice ep as well.
Again, Tygra took the hard beating lol.
Also, I like that Snarf is not always by Lion-o’s side in the NS, but h can share with others as well (he did that in the OS, but at the end of the day he was always by Lion-o’s side).
I also thought of “Good and Ugly” when I saw the trailers.
He is adopted. Remember Grune telling him he’s not in the blood line?
I also got the impression that Tygra was a big ladies man. And not without experience. Lion-o always struck me as someone who talks the talk but is ignorant in such matters. Plus age plays a part in this as well- Lion is 17. Tygra is 20.
I really hope she doesn’t go with Tygra. Sorry to Tygra fans but he really strikes me as a selfish, self important cad. And love with someone like that doesn’t usually last. I’m not saying Lion-o is perfect (far from) but I think in a relationship he would be more giving. Cheetra pursued Lion-o first before Thundera fell- because of who he was personality. Not his rank or position.
^I actually interpret the Lion-O/Cheetara dynamic as extremely off balanced. Because of her loyalty to the crown, Cheetara seems hesitant to challenge Lion-O’s Ideas. Even when she feels he’s following the wrong path.
Ramlak Rising and Old Friends support this. In RR she was obviously disgruntled about Lion-O choosing to search out Mumm-ra but she followed anyway, with very little opposition on her part.
In Old Friends she pretty much implies that they HAVE to follow Lion-O’s orders, not because they agree with them or think he’s right, but because he is king now.
Its actually my only real problem with Lion-o/Cheetara. But hey that my personal thing. I wouldn’t want to be with someone who I didn’t feel comfortable challenging when I think their wrong.
I would love to see Lion-O with someone who wouldn’t mind setting him straight. “Hey I love you, but you’re wrong and I dont mind telling you as much.”
I could get with that.
@Tygra_Rules: I dont know about the look he gave Lion-O when he set the terms for the competition. It was a bit ambiguous.
When I first saw it, I thought Tygra looked a bit put off. Though I could see someone interpreting as reluctant consent.
When he said the sword chose Lion-O, I thought that maybe he had tried to wield it before with no luck.
I don’t think that ever happened though. I think everybody (Claudus, Grune, Lion-o himslef) made it pretty clear for Tygra that he was not in the blood line, so I think he never even bothered trying.
From the way Matthew Mercer talked in an interview, as I recall he basically said that Tygra actually struggles a lot with insecurity which is supposed to show itself more in the future. So I get the impression that the co ckiness is a front to hide his own insecurities. He actually doesn’t think as highly of himself as he comes across.
