The feliner - just Myth or reality ?

:? Darn those newbies with their endless Qurestions, ey ? LOL

Okay, anywhoo, I do know the Feliner is considered a Prototyp vehicle never to be released after all, yet I recall reading articles of other TC collectors on the net saying the Feliner did appear on an ebay auction once. Now I do believe it to be rumour but maybe there´s something to it afterall, and I considered to asked the people who should know…you guys

Please tell me it DID make it to beeing produced for I love the design… okay wishful thinking I know :duh:

Yours

This is a tricky question. When I first joined up I posted a dumb thread thinking I had found the guy (somewhere in the UK) who had a Feliner, but it turned out to just be the same pics everyone else has already seen. I’ve smartened up since then!!

From my understanding, supposedly someone out there has the original prototype, but I have heard that about the Mad Bubbler as well, but no one “owner” has ever come forward to confirm this. Perhaps they want to conceal their identity?

Yet you can see in some of the dealer catalogs and late Thundercats promo booklets pictures of these “never produced” items. So I imagine that hopefully someone out there has those 1 or 2 items actually produced for the promo spots. There is even a pic of Red Eye. You can see these pics here: http://www.thundercatslair.org/toys/prototypes/prototypes.html

Manny or Andrew will probably know the most about this topic though, so I’ll leave it to the pro’s.

There is indeed rumor of 4 Feliners out there.I never saw the Feliner auction but those who saw the auction a few years ago, and this is personal account by several people, actually saw the auction go for I believe $3-4K.

Its not far fetched to think that there are a few Mad Bubblers out there, matter of fact I received information a while back that 2, yes 2 Mad Bubblers
were sold by the same person in the range of $3-4K each. Nobody thought pictures of Prototypes like Cannon Blaster or Quick Jaws would ever surfaced and we got them, we even received information that just recently they sold for $1,500 each…quite a steal if you ask me. As if thats not enough Ive been steadily working towards receving a picture of a Mad Bubbler, nothing has turned up YET but its looking better and better that we could soon be having the very first actual picture of a Mad Bubbler.

Getting an actual picture of a real Mad Bubbler would be awesome! Its almost like proving the Loch Ness monster exists.

Im working on it, lets just say the owner of it has to take it out among the many many items from ThunderCats he has

Jeepers, 3k is a hell lot of money, but due to the fact it´s sorta oneofakind thing I can understand it anyway.
I agree it would be like proving the existense of Loch Ness monster… but I´d prefer the feliner instead of the monster

I always wondered how prototyps or molds do get sold after all. Did those peeps write or go to LJN asking whether they can purchase the mold or prototype or is it some employee that took it for he knew he´d get a shitload of money for it ?

@ Manny : if you realy dig up pictures of those to items I consider you to become my personal Hero:panthrohappy:

the protos come from former employees. They im sure didnt think that they would bring in alot of money when they took them. Remember in the 80s toys werent collected just played with so this new market has come around in the last 15 years or less

Employees more than likely kept the remainders because it was part of what they helped design or worked with. Its like an artist that has a painting, would you throw it away or keep it? Im sure they kept it because after all items they worked with could be used sort of as a portfolio for future jobs

I can shed some light, not much, but some…

back in highschool… id say 1999 or so, thats when the ebay Feliner was up. The guy had purchased it threw a old LJN employee, and sold it off.

I dont remember how much it went for, but I can confirm that one was sold on ebay.

Oh it was definately sold and it was later than 1999. I came online in the summer of 2000 and I had the auction on my watch list

I think it was something like 2001 it was on Ebay.

:yikes: awesome pictures. Thanks. One could say the holy grale to TC Collectors even though I guess the owner will never consider selling the thing.

@ manny : True. What better way to display ones talents by bringing a prototyp along. And the artist thing : I know what you mean. I tend to write alot and never throw anything away I created. I guess it makes sense to me why the emplyees kept their designs.

I never thought you had these pictures alying around. Its definitely different pictures than what has been posted on the web, If i could only see the actual auction that would make my day. Unfortunately we have tried to find it via internet archives but no luck :frowning:

It was pre-august 2001…I remember where I was living at the time and thats when I moved from there.

Watermark them asap and add them to the site…delete my attachments once you’ve got them.

I had permission from the auction dude to use them way back when.

Edited previous post and merged per request

Where are the pictures?:?

I took them down, no need to worry its only because they were not watermarked and are not placed in the proper place. We will be adding them to the respective prototype section

I started collecting Thundercats again in the January of 2001, so therefore it was between February 2001 and August 2001 then. Something tells me June for some reason…

Shame we can’t get an archived version of the auction page :frowning:

I looked in the link given in one of the posts and the KidWorks Mini-Snowman of Hook Mountain variant shield and spear exists, I have it! It is in Italian packaging but I can get you a picture of the whole thing so you can see if you want. It was definitely in production. It was with the large LJN Snowman figure as well, but unfortunately I didn’t buy it. I wish I had. :duh:

I don’t know if the boulders that came with the set were different colors either do any of you?

they were the same color. the proto shield from the snowman for the ljn figs most resembles a shield from there ad+d line. i think its the male titan shooter because his spear is the proto one. the proto one was never released with the ljn fig anywhere, just the kidworks one and thats scaled down and a different company

The kidworks style shield and spear were put with American carded Snowman figures. I saw it in Ben Franklin when I was in high school! I can even tell you the date I saw it! It was the last week of December 1989. I know for sure it was a Saturday because it was the same day my great grandmother died.

We were going home from the hospital we didn’t know she had passed and we stopped at a shopping center in Clemmons, NC. Thundercats figures were on clearence in Ben Franklin for $5.00 apiece. There were two…the Romanesque type shield and the ice variant. I only had five dollars and tax on me so I stupidly chose the figure with acessories that looked like the ones on the show.

I will put my hand on any kind of religious material that you put under my hand that that variant of weapon was packaged with the Snowman figure.

I wish to goodness I had bought it, I’ve regretted not doing so for years… (but I know I would have opened it) so its a catch 22.

First of all, I’m so sorry to hear of your grandmother’s passing. Second of all, I’m from Pa and I thought nobody besides me would have ever heard of a store called “Ben Franklin” I went to that all the time as a girl. I bought candy, art supplies and even Tcat stuff from there. The one Tcat thing I remember getting there was this cheapy short Sword of Omens that looked like the small version of it when the eye was asleep.
