Ocelli and I just got back from seeing it today. Oh man! It was AMAZING!!! As the culmination of Marvel’s project to make a shared movie universe, it paid off big time!
Also, like I said in another thread, now whenever someone asks me why I think Joss Whedon would be an excellent pick to do a Thundercats movie, I can now point to The Avengers and say, “THAT’S why!”
So let’s talk about all things Avengers here. Not just the movie, but the TV show and the comics too.
Oh I’ve seen it five nights ago, worth it.
I’'ve been reading it is a great movie, haven’t seen it yet but i will this weekend probably.Still i believe TDKR will be the summer movie to top all other comic-based movies of this year;)
As inspired by the film; this wasn’t a movie, it was an event. The casting was spot on, the action was intense, the character interactions varied from serious to omg funny. If you can, see it in Imax 3D and be prepared for amazing. 
It’s going to be between TDKR and The Avengers for sure. I have a feeling it’s going to be a close call on which one comes out on top.
The Avengers is not just a great movie, it’s one of those movies of a generation that people will remember in some form for generations to come. You really cannot overhype this film.
Hulk was amazing.
One of the things that surprised me in this movie that most haven’t mentioned was the appearance of some classic actors in bit parts and walk-ons. Of course, you had the obligatory Stan Lee cameo. But I recognized a few other actors.
For example, that was Harry Dean Stanton as the security guard who talked to Bruce Banner after he came to. People recognize him most probably from either ALIEN, Repo Man or maybe even Escape From New York.
The members of the council that fury talked to also had a couple of faces-familiars. One was Powers Boothe, who starred in such movies like The Emerald Forest and Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones. More recently he’s also appeared in 24, Deadwood and Sin City. And looking over his IMDB database, he’s been doing a lot of voice-over work too, including Justice League (as Gorilla Grodd), The Looney Tunes Show and Ben 10. He’ll also be starring in a miniseries for the History Channel this month about the Hatfields and the McCoys.
Another member of the council I recognized was Jenny Agutter. She’s most famous for co-starring in Logan’s Run, along with An American Werewolf in London. She also had a guest spot on Red Dwarf where she played Kryten’s creator. But for the most part, she’s starred in purely British productions.
He is Joss Whedon, of course he’d cast those people.
Well, now that I think it’s safe to say everyone’s seen the movie by now, who do you think should be in the sequel? There have been a lot of Avengers over the years, some more popular than others. And there’s still quite a few fan-favorites who haven’t gotten their big screen due yet. Here’s who I think we could expect to see in the near future…
Ant-Man & Wasp- Of the Avengers’ founding members, the ones most conspicuous by their absence were Ant-Man, otherwise known as Dr. Hank Pym, and his lifetime partner Janet Van Dyne, AKA Wasp. Both have been mainstays of the Avengers for decades. In fact, it was Wasp who gave the Avengers their name.
There’s been talk that Edgar Wright (director of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World) has been trying to get an Ant-Man movie off the ground for a while. With The Avengers being so wildly successful, chances are it’s probably going to happen now. So their appearing in the sequel may be almost a certainty.
Vision- If you’re going to include Hank Pym, eventually you’re going to have to include one of his two famous robotic creations. In this case, Vision. Now, Vision’s origins are somewhat convoluted, with them being tied-in to Ultron (Pym’s other creation) and Wonder Man, whose personality Vision’s was based on when it was believed he was dead. But I think the movie may have provided a loophole…
I don’t think at this point it’s much of a spoiler to say Agent Coulson bought it in the movie. Fury says he died just after the medical team got to him. And that seems to be true as we saw it happen. But remember, he fudged the truth a bit about Coulson having Cap’s trading cards on him when he died. Who’s to say he’s fudged the truth even more? Maybe Coulson is being kept on ice somewhere until something happens and they can revive him after a fashion?
Also remember that in Captain America, during the Stark Exposition we saw a display of “Professor Phineas Horton’s Synthetic Man.” Marvel fans know that this was in fact the original Human Torch. And that later in the comics, Dr. Pym used it as the chassis for what would become Vision.
It’s quite possible - especially if Pym is introduced - that something might happen that will require them to transfer Coulson’s consciousness into a new body. The Synthetic Man chassis happens to be still lying around in storage somewhere, they roll it out, Pym makes some tweaks and upgrades, consciousness is transferred and voila! We have Vision! Could happen.
Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver- You’d think that with these two being the children of Magneto that they’d be tied-up with the X-Men movie rights that are owned by Fox. But apparently there’s a loophole that allows them to still be in an Avengers movie…so long apparently as they’re not directly referred to as mutants. It’s clumsy, but it might work. And if you’re going to include Vision in the mix, you might as well try to recreate the classic relationship between him and Scarlet Witch!
Ms. Marvel- She’s been getting a big boost in popularity lately, to the point where she’s well on her way to becoming Marvel’s premier superheroine. And if you ask me, she deserves it, what with all her character’s been through over the years. I don’t know how you can do it, however, without involving Captain Mar-Vell or even the Kree in some fashion, since her origin’s tied to them. But if they can work Thanos and the Chitauri in, maybe they can make it work somehow.
Black Panther- A few have complained that the movie lineup of the Avengers lacked diversity. Adding female members like Wasp, Ms. Marvel and Scarlet Witch would certainly help. But let’s not forget the Black Panther either! The ruler of Wakanda has gotten a reputation of late as being Marvel’s answer to Batman. Like him, he’s got vast wealth and advanced technology on his side, plus he’s a shrewd tactician and has an incredibly deductive mind, not to mention killer martial arts moves. Vibranium - the mineral that is Wakanda’s chief export - has already been mentioned in Captain America. So I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to believe we’ll be seeing T’Challa soon.
Wonder Man- A fan favorite, if only because he’s been dead and brought back to life and switched sides so many times (currently he’s a bad guy again, for the record). But it’s probably because of that that I doubt he might ever appear in the movies, especially when there’s more interesting and less complex villains to be used.
And speaking of villains…
Thanos- He was teased at the end of the movie. So putting him in the sequel would be a no-brainer. However, Joss Whedon hinted that if he does the sequel, it would be smaller and more personal. So that could potentially rule out anything big and cosmic. Still, odds are fairly high right now he’ll show up. If not here, than in some other future Marvel movie.
Ultron- Probably the Avengers’ most popular enemy. And if you’re going to bring in Ant-Man, you can’t really do it without involving Ultron at some point IMO. We know from Terminator that people still aren’t sick of seeing human vs. robot action. And I’m sure a big screen version of Ultron would be something really cool to see.
The Masters of Evil- The only other major villain from Captain America’s rogues gallery besides Red Skull is Baron Zemo. Seeing as how he’s been the leader of the Masters of Evil, this would be a perfect way to introduce him…provided of course they’re not saving him for Captain America II. They could also introduce other major villains like the Enchantress, Crimson Dynamo, Klaw, Living Laser, and maybe even Wonder Man too.
Kang the Conqueror- This one could be a little tricky. Kang’s a time traveler, and time travel in movies, while cool, can give audiences a headache if it’s not handled well. And considering that Kang also happens to share identities with some other Marvel characters, things could get really confusing. Don’t know if they could pull this one off.
What about Melissa Gold as a possible candidate as another character for The Avengers?
You mean Songbird/Screaming Mimi? She’s a current fan favorite right now, but she’s not too well-known outside the comics…although she was featured as a playable character in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. But I don’t know if she carries the same kind of history or popularity that the other characters I mentioned did.

Awesome movie, but did anyone do a marathon of all 5 movies at home before seeing it? i did and to link the story from Captain America to Iron Man then Incredible Hulk then Iron man 2 and Thor then go see Avengers to complete the story.
I saw it 5 times and this is the Star Wars of comic book movies, who agrees? and Joss Whedon is such a genius.
Nice suggestions on other Marvel characters in avengers, now how about Spider-Woman or Howard The Duck in an Avengers movie? that’s be funny
Undoubtedly it was a great movie, i just saw it.Most likely the best Marvel Movie we have seen. The action scenes were marvelous, it was a very smart idea and played out well to show the conflict between the heroes who had to cast aside all their differences in order to save the planet. Iron Man and Hulk were very nice depicted and i single them out from the rest.
Loki, however was the ‘typical’ Marvel villain who wanted to rule and destroy Earthg i’ve seen this story being reiterated over and over again in Marvel’s movies and one main reason why TDK with Joker’s performance was a cut above. So it was great but not the definite Summer movie, wait until TDKR comes…
This is somewhat unrelated, though it does pertain to Marvel characters and their movie rights. It’s been reported that Chronicle director Josh Trank will be making a movie based on the game Shadow of the Colossus. Before this, however, his name was attached to a reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise for Fox.
My guess is that since Trank isn’t doing the FF movie, it could be assumed that Fox is going to let the FF movie rights lapse and let them go back to Marvel/Disney. Fox already has the movie rights to X-Men, and they seem to be more interested in maintaining that, what with them making a sequel to First Class and planning a follow-up to Wolverine.

Just wanted to post some news on the Avengers front. A lot of this was stuff I kind of figured would happen, but was still very surprised that it did! (Call me the Nerd Nostradmus, I guess!)

Ok, in case you don’t know anything about them, Guardians of the Galaxy is a team of some of Marvel’s spacegoing superheroes who handle primarily cosmic threats. So basically it’s The Avengers…in spaaaaaace!
The team consists of such characters as Star Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Moondragon, Bug, Groot and my own favorite (along with many others), Rocket Raccoon.
I’m not going to lie, I think this might be a hard sell. Unlike the Avengers, the characters of Guardians don’t have the same name recognition (don’t feel bad if you had to look those characters up on Wikipedia), and that much of their adventures take place in space or other planets rather than on Earth could also make it more difficult for audiences to relate to. But if it’s marketed well and they give this to some good writers, I think they might be able to pull this off. And since Thanos was already teased at the end of The Avengers, I figured he would have to be in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie if he wasn’t going to be in The Avengers 2.
And still, I can’t believe we’ll be living in a world where Rocket Raccoon is in a major motion picture! To quote an article I read, “Dear DC: If Marvel gets Rocket Raccoon in a movie before you can make either Wonder Woman or Justice League, you have failed.”
