Speculations on Thunderian society....

I think it’s all in the intent. I think it would function alright in practice as long as he doesn’t truly intend to hurt who he’s practicing with.

Also from re-watching the trailer just now the scene with Grune and the stone is in broad daylight and the Battle seems to be at night.

You might be right. Because in the first episode (of original series) Lion-O intended on attacking a herd of animals just for the shytes and giggles

So it may be exactly as you said it. It’s just when you’re practicing you have to have the intent to kill and fight seriously because…you will get slaughter if you half-step in practice

I think that the scene with Grune comes after he’s betrayed Claudis and the others

Could be. Won’t know for sure until we see the show. I’m just saying that scene isn’t during the battle.

Actually, there’s a shot during the first trailer right before the shot of Grune standing with Claudus, Jaga, Tygra and Lion-O. In it you can see the large stone off to the side. I believe that Grune is just bringing the big rock back to Thundera. The screen shot of Snarf making a face in one of the gem’s reflections is probably when Grune is presenting it to Claudus.

Yeah but originally Grune was a former Thunderian that went to the side of ebil…so I am assuming he’s a bad guy in this reboot as well

So seeing him with Claudis doesn’t make me think he’s any less of traitor

So maybe he’s stealing the large stone then?

Trojan horse? Or just keeping the cover story?

Good eye. I hadn’t noticed that. You also see the stone right in the center of the scene after Grune takes that bow. So he brings that stone back before the battle.
hmm…

Maybe they’re not slaves exactly. They could be prisoners. You know like how you see Prisoners in real life working on the side of the roads?

After hearing what was said about Thunderians with tails being less “evolved,” and with how it appears the lizardmen aren’t treated very well, I’m starting to wonder if Thunderian society may be very prejudiced towards anyone that isn’t a “pure bred” Thunderian.

In a different thread about the Thunder Kittens, it was put out that they could be mixed breed. We see that they have tails and they seem to be street urchins, so this may support the theory. Another issue that comes out from this is how a supposedly benevolent ruler like Claudus would allow this kind of thing.

Which brings me to my next idea; perhaps Thunderian society’s downfall will come partly from civil unrest. The mixed breed commoners start to rise up against the pure bred nobles, there’s a revolution, and then Slythe and the lizardmen strike when Thundera is weak. Thundera will collapse because it refused to change by getting better technology and getting rid of its class system.

What if Jaga was hereditary lord but didn’t pass the Trials so the title was passed to Claudis?

Does anyone really think for a second that Jaga wouldn’t have passed his trials? Not me. :liono

Thinking Jaga is the advisor and such. Like Jafar but less creepy. And who is to say that the King ang the Lord of the Thundercats are not diffrent positions within the society? Just spitballing.

And I noticed in the old cartoon too that some of the flashbacks to old thundera had guards that looked more like Pummra then the Thundercats. I -really- think that the cat faces and muzzles, paired with tails and more cat like features are considered lower class citizesn due to the ‘bad breeding and blood lines’ or else how could you go from that to the evolved and smexier Thundercats with more human features?

I don’t think they were lower classed citizens at all in the original. Grune had the same cat-like features and he was a former Thundercat too. I did always wonder why some were like that and some weren’t tho.

The more human-like ones were likely meant to be more appealing - we weren’t supposed to like Grune or Puma-ra (sp).

I think Claudus knows about the slavery, notice the lizard man it the stocks? Thunderians seem to be very predjudiced against Mutants in this version. Also, I think the restriction on the Sword not being used for evil might have been dumped, seeing as how if Clawdus’s intentions are now flawed, he wouldn’t be able to use it under the old rules.

Like some of you, I’m also wondering if there might not be a hierarchy based on cat type. All of the high thunderians in society are individualized looking species (Lion, Tiger, cheetah, Jaguar, etc.) the commoners are generic looking cat types, while the street rifraff (the Thunderkittens and the thief dude) are more housecat looking with tails.

I do think the noble TCs were chosen one form each clan (the Tygra clan, the Cheetara clan)… maybe each of them was chosen when born, or maybe had to pass some trials their own against other clanmates.

About why they seemed more humans than regular thunderians on the original series, I think that was just a bad writing or whatever. I mean, as someone pointed aout, TCs with human features were more appelaing. Think of the mutants, they had no human features at all, so to seaprate the TCs from the, they made them more humans, thus more pretty and trust-worthy (everything enters by the eyes). Can you imagine a more human-looking Vultureman, Slithe, Monkian or Jackalman? It was meant that they were ugly, because back in the day the stereotype ugly = evil was still in use (like MOTU or D&D).

Then they found it hard to do it for every other thunderian they wanted to bring up, so they just made them more feline-looking.

There are a few Lizard men in stocks…but you also see Lion-O, Tygra, and Cheetara infront of them protecting them from the mob. I do not think Claudus knows about the slaves. The only person you see with the “slaves” is Grune and we all know how he turns out.

The individual mutants are reminiscent of ancient Egyptian/Babylonian gods, which I thought was intentional. Jackalman = Anubis, Sed, or Duamutef (and sundry others), Monkian = Babi or Hapy, Vultureman = Zababa. There are so many frog/snake/crocodile gods to choose from for Slithe.

Interesting; I have never thought of that.

Also, in many ancient American cultures, there were many feline gods as well (by “american” I mean all America, from Canada to Tierra del Fuego, not only the US); in Peru, many ancient cultures adored the Jaguar God, for example.

So maybe the whole TCs mythology was based on ancient cultures and their gods.

Also, there’s a tiger year and hour in the 12 year cycle of the Chinese Horoscope.

Sometimes when I’m trying to come up with Thunderian names, I look at other languages for the word “cat” such as the Spanish “gato”.

The Chinise horoscope also have a monkey year, and a dragon and serpent years.

Also, wanna ask you something guys. I’ve been wanting to change my profile name, but don’t know if it’s possible and/or confussing for other members. May I do it?
