I’m assuming (actually, hoping) we’ll see all the kinds the TCs have met in future episodes. The Berbils should be a cosntant presence as in the OS, I guess. Maybe they and others like the elephants will show up again when we least expect it.
I’m hoping for that, because if not, then these last eps had no sense at all.
over all feeling
when the last episode ended I was one the first say that it was pretty disappointing. Ive been keeping up with the post following the episode and although there a few mixed opinions, the over all feeling is that the episode was NOT great. Yes the animation was good, action sequence good, but all that is expected. I think the over all sense it that the show is not living up to the expectations that it formed. After the original screening at comicon, and the premier of the first two parter, everyone was pretty positive and optimistic. I remember reading comments like “wow amazing”, " awesome episode" “cant wait for the next episode” now the last few episodes just dont bring up that consensus, i read things like “i hope next weeks episode is better” and they bring up all kinds of mixed opinions, some say it was ok…some say it was boring, too slow, not enough story development, debates whether or not it was a filler…etc…I hope the creators are reading these posts. We, thundercat fans want amazing episodes!!! we want to be blown out of our chair with every weekly installment. every episode should be as good as Thundercats Ho five parter, or Thundercubs… we respect the new vision, we respect the story changes, but we cannot respect mediocre writing and slow timing.
I think this community is always gonna compare the 2 shows and I don’t think that’s particularly wrong either. Maybe comparing to feature length films is a bit ‘apples for oranges’ but if u were to watch the 1st 10 episodes of the OS and compare the story telling and flow of the programme, I strongly agree with others here that this is way too disjointed and they literally seem to be ‘wasting time’! That’s not to say I want them to find a new stone of power every episode, but …just get a move on with everything else guys! Character development, backstory, villains, quest trails.
Oh and P.S cut out the Disney S**t!
And Lion-O freed Snow Meow, so there will be a payoff there, too. Snow Meow will remember that Lion-O set him free, and will return the favor in a future episode. 
its so frustrating reading what some of you have to say. because its OK in the original series for Mumm-ra to disapper for a few episodes. Hey, he hardly showed up early in the first season. ..but in this series, if he doesnt show up for a bit, ..OMG, “This series sucks and I cant believe we got another filler episode!!” ..“I almost turned it off.”
Do I have to remind you guys that half the first season of the OS was boring? I re-watched it with my kids to get them familiar with the characters before the new series started, and I was like “this is the show I loved? …Lino-O and Snarf walking around giving life lessons? fighting bad guys who stand ZERO chance at beating these hero’s?” The worst episode of the new series is still better than the worst episode of the old series. I just dont understand what some of you people expect? Yeah, I would love to see Mumm-ra and Grune every episode, ..I would love to see Slithe blow things up and make life hard for the Cats every week. but thats not gonna happen. How many episodes in the OS Season 1 did we see that had random bad guys and characters that had nothing to do with Mumm-ra? lots of them.
Thats ok tho, right? sure is.
but not for the new series. Nooooo…by God, it better be action packed every week.
I thought last weeks episode was really good. It showed the cats still learning, showed that just acting out and fighting people (or bugs) inst always the best way to go. it sets things up and theres still a LONG way to go in this series, so its gonna get better.
if were gonna hold this series to a certain standard - then go back and watch the old series and you’ll have the same complaints. My only problem with the last episode was that they were fighting bugs. I thought that was just kinda retarded. but still, a really good episode.
It is pointless to compare the new show to the old one. Sure they share the same elements, but they are different beasts entirely.
The new series started with a much different tone in that Mumm-Ra was on the offensive from the beginning where in the old series he had no prior interaction with the Thundercats so it made sense that he would hang back and observe them. The sense of danger in the new series has been clumsily handled so far and people are justified in being annoyed with it.
It was also fine for Mumm-Ra to disappear for a few episodes in the original show because it aired 5 times a week so you didn’t notice it as much.
Let’s compare where we are after 10 episodes in both series…
Original - Mumm-Ra had a significant part in 4 of 10 episodes, and the Mutants were at least featured in 6 of the episodes.
New - Mumm-Ra had a significant part in 3 of 10 episodes (not counting random cut scenes of Mumm-Ra trying to force Jaga to help them), and so far we have only seen Slithe in 2 or 3 episodes (was he in the first episode at all?). However, we have Grune in 3 episodes so far.
Episodes not featuring any of the main bad guys thus far:
Original - Hammerhand, Tower, Mandora
New - Ramlak, Duelist, Berbils, Sight
So while the main bad guys aren’t getting as much face time in the new series yet, they are only absent from one more episode than the original.
The biggest difference between the OS and the NS is that in the OS the Thundercats were more reactive. Usually they were just living their lives or exploring the planet when someone would try destroy them. They didn’t really have a misson to accomplish like the Thundercats in the NS do which made it much more plausable for there to be a gap between episodes that featured Mumm-Ra or the mutants. They sat in their lairs until they could develop a new plan. The NS was set up as a race against time. “Find the Book before Mumm-Ra,” and “find the stones before Mumm-Ra.” With things being set up that way it makes the episodes that don’t feature the quest (or attempts to hinder the quest) seem a little out of place sometimes. And I think that is what upsets some people. It’s not necessarily that the episodes are bad (because they’re not), but that right now it’s hard to see what their place is in the bigger story. And so there are going to be complaints until we see the payoffs that ARE coming down the road
In other words, nostalgia changes how you remember something. We will always look at the shows from our childhood and wonder why people who weren’t the same age didn’t see it the same way. Then we see them as adults and realize we’re not the same.
my memories of Thundercats were never really tinted with nostalgia. watched in elementary school when it first aired, watched in high school when it was on toonami, then bought the dvds when I found a job. it’s always been exactly how I remembered it because I never really gave myself the chance to forget. especially since I’ve always had a knack for remembering odd details of old cartoons anyway.
I personally have tried to be as open minded and optimistic as possible with the new series, as I am with everything in life, but for me the reality of the situation is I can watch the original series as a grown man and not feel that it is so kiddie as I do with the new series. The funny thing is my GF is much younger then me and had never even heard of a Thundercat until she met me and she also prefers watching the original over the new series.
As for “Sight Beyond Sight” I enjoyed this episode more then I did the Berbils episode, which is a shame because I’ve always liked the Berbils.
My biggest problem with this new series is just how rushed it is (this is evident right from the get go as there is no intro) and how disorganized the sequence of events seem. The other is Third Earth has no “feel” to it. When I watch the original (it’s hard to explain) through the way Third Earth was animated / portrayed and the musical score you get a sense that you are traveling to a far off mystical world. I don’t get that with the new series. I don’t feel eager to see the cats explore their new world as I did with the OS.
Some other things are Panthro sucks (hasn’t lived up to the hype), I could care less about finding stones, and I feel like Cheetara doesn’t command that respect that she did in the OS. Even the way they animate her running sucks. I understand she is a cleric in this new series and they hover more then run, but in the OS it’s evident they studied models of people running and animated her in a way that really gave you the sense she was hauling ass and appeared elegant / powerful while doing so.
I love the Thundercats universe, but I find myself just tagging along for the ride at this point in the new series.
I neverfound teh OS’s first half boring, not even when I rewatch it as a grown up. I think the NS is boring some times.
Also, I think the OS were less infantile than the NS, even when it was produced over 25 years ago.
Honestly, I don’t really get where people are saying the OS is less infantile than the NS. If anything, the biggest gripe I had with the OS was that it was WAY too childish; they could have added a bit more grit and dispensed with the more juvenile elements they put in (Yes, I know it was a kids show. But just because it is shouldn’t be an excuse to play down to the audience. Plenty of other kids shows have proven to have smart, intelligent writing).
I’ve said before that I was about 14 or 15 when the OS came out. And maybe for me that was part of the problem; at that age, you’re pretty much concerned with being “cool” and trying to distance yourself from the things your younger brother or sister is into (At least that’s how it was at the time. Nowadays there doesn’t seem to be that stigma.) But when I was caught watching the OS by my parents, I was honestly truly embarrassed. And I guess that’s sort of colored my perception of it ever since.
The OS has not aged well for me. At all. If anything, it’s only gotten worse for me compared to other shows I’ve seen since like Batman: The Animated Series, for example. I joke that I feel like my IQ is dropping whenever I watch it. And it always frustrated me, because from the pilot I could see that there were inklings of how much greater it could have been.
With the NS, I don’t have that problem. I never feel ashamed watching it or that my intelligence is being insulted. If it does tend to meander, so be it. For me, that’s a minor negative that outweighs a lot of the pluses that this show brings: i.e. a progressive story arc, better writing, a more serious and dramatic tone, and better-realized characters. I’m actually proud to call myself a Thundercat fan now because of the NS. Whereas with the OS, I really didn’t want to.
Nostalgia is really a funny thing. As I mentioned, it was probably because I was older that I didn’t get as taken-in by Thundercats when it first came around as those younger than me did. I was probably just starting to get a little too cynical, I suppose. Incidentally, Drew McWeeney (AKA “Moriarty” over at Ain’t-It-Cool News) has been showing his kids all 6 Star Wars movies and their reaction is interesting: they’re eating it up, prequels and all. Unlike the older fans who have seemingly made it their part time hobby to actively hate on the prequels, the kids make no distinction and enjoy the movies all equally. So it goes to further prove my point that what age you’re first exposed to something really does make a difference. In my case, the age gap for me is a gulf that is probably way to wide for me to try and bridge. And it’s maybe for that reason that I relate better to the NS than OS
i know we r getting off topic here but i will say that even though the original series has some not so interesting eps it at least doesnt seem to show what the new series is showing as of late which is preschool to preteen not so serious situations battles or plots.
I started watching the OS when I was about 5 and it had the opposite effect on me (quite understandably) in that I believe it advanced my learning and maturity and as cheesy as this sounds, kinda partly made me the person I am today (at least morally and that!).
I’m probably biased, but I can’t see the NS having such an effect on children watching it today…which is a hell of a shame.
P.S I agree with whoever mentioned Cheetara’s NS running animation looking significantly slower/less convincing than the OS which is odd considering the majority of the animation is without a doubt better (tho i do miss the vividness of the OS!)

I think that, what people mean, is that the OS was less infantile for a 1985 show than the NS for a 2011 show. At least I feel it that way
