sorry to be totally out of the loop, but i started reading some of this thread and am very confused, what’s “shipping” and “OTP”? i gathered that the OS was original series? and is this thread about people freaking out b/c they dont like/agree with other peoples fan fic and them getting all emo and stuff?

OTP=One true pairing, your favorite pairing/ship etc., it means what couple do you like together.
I’m pretty sure no one is “freaking out” just disagreeing, not sure where you got people were freaking and getting “emo” from…
shipping: usually romantic, but can be friendship orientated as well. Basically pairing two character together because you like them together. For example, I like Cheetara and Tygra together. I ship them.
OTP: One true pairing.
This thread is just about shipping in general.
I have to admit I had no idea what OTP meant either. figured out the rest tho. lol
For the longest I thought it meant On Topic Pairing …I don’t know why.

No one is bashing anyone’s fanfics. On my part I’m just being critical of the general bad aspects found in shipping and fanfiction amongst fandoms.
OTP, like Tigrastipes said, is “one true pairing”. Is a term used for a pairing people have a very high likeing for. A pairing they like more than others within the canon/fanon.
The problem is that there are ALOT of amazing writers out there. For all fandoms, but with many, when you go to FF.net or some forums you see bad stories receiving more attention because of the cliche ideas it’s written about instead of those fanfics with engaging plot and good characterization.
It’s sad to not see great authors get the recognition they deserve and instead the fourteen year old with horrible grammar gets it.
Just being honest.
And read closely, I point out that I haven’t noticed this much with ThunderCats fics. 
(There’s their exceptions on FF.net, but I’ve enjoyed plenty of TCat stories.)
im 31, i have 2 kids and a live in girlfriend. every one that knows me knows that i collect toys, and that i read comics and watch toons, i game, i do it all with my family, we do it. we all go on toy hunts tgether, so i dont think its weird. one lady told me that men have there toys and always will, its just some mens toys arent the obvious ones. they are things like cars, coins, sports collectables, or playing sports, music instruments, motorcycles, tools, fishing gear, woman. your never to old for something that makes you happy, heck, look at stan lee, he is in his 70’s and pretty enthusiastic about comics. just thought of something, i told a guy i collected toys when he asked me my hobbies, he started to joke, and then said what else, i sead i study karate and i hold a brown/black belt, and i love to fight and i recently won a silver medal in kumite competition. i was saying this in a non intimidating way, and at the end of me explaining my martial arts hobbie, i sorta forgot i told him about the toy thng, and he replies ‘‘toys are cool’’, i laughed so hard, long car rides to the jobsite with a new employee is always entertaining!
hmm i see thanks for the response, never did anything with fan fiction so this is interesting. so someone could make Panthro and Grune lovers? hmm… lol
Yeah it can be sucky to not see an author get the credit they deserve through reviews. I used to write based on reviews but now that Im a confident enough writer it doesnt bother me as much, the way I see it a fic that needs a lot of feedback such as ones that could be written better could use the feedback more than a good write, those many reviews get people writing more and more and only improving so totally worth it.

The competition is purely in the minds of the shippers. And you’ve read many of the posts about the ships. It’s the female form of duking it out, complete with cat hisses and yowls. They make Fantasy Football competition look like Tee-ball.
You make a valid point there. But sadly, I haven’t come across that case. They just keep “writting” the same and don’t bother to improve on the factors that should be improved on. Eh, maybe it’s the fandoms I’m in.

I agree about fic quality. For every one amazing one, you’ll find about 30 eh or really bad ones. A good fanfic not only keeps the character in character, but also improves on them and develops them within the context of their fic. All of this, without slandering the character beyond recognition.
I’m actually the furthest thing from a Football fan but I DO watch The League and have several friends who are in Leagues. I’m still better off though, just giving you a link, as it’s quite complicated.

nah. i’ve never played it but I’ve seen it on tv enough to know it’s not a video game.
it’s like people choose their favorite players from teams that are playing irl and they score or something based on how those players perform in actual real life games.
idk it’s weird if you ask me.
