Am I the only one who finds it slightly disturbing, the fervor some folks have for the relationship possibilities of these cartoon characters???
Or am I just crazy? (and believe me, I’m totally open to that possibility) LOL!
Eh, I think I’m probably immune to it. Ive seen people get down and dirty over pairings. Even seen some cry and rage over them. This person that I used to talk to literally spiraled into a depression over her OTP not happening. She just dropped off and never came back . Deleted all of her fanfiction and deviantArt account. All of this after leaving a really mean letter to the creators on her blog, and slashing other posters for about 2 weeks. Some of which were her friends, hell some of them shipped her OTP Shrug
I wont lie, I get upset when one of my OTPs crash and burn, but I think things like EXTREMELY HARSH character bashing and going after fans of the opposing OTP very extreme. Sending hate mail to the creators? Woah, slow down. Is it really worth making a fool out of yourself? This is not real. Find a person or a dog to love that much:eek:.
The last time I got really bent out of shape over a pairing was back in my Harry Potter days. Even then I didnt take it to the extreme. LOL, I rage quitted and then came back in time for the movie 
. This has lead me to believe that some of these less rational people are probably young teens. God I hope so.
I refuse to believe someone is married with children and behaving this way. Makes me nervous.
What trips me out about the Thundercats’ fandom is that some people feel like it was a dis-justice to fans of the OS.
Number one: Plenty of fans from the OS are supportive of TyChee. I’m talking about the small group of fans who even bother with the shipping.
Number two: The OS had no official romance. One one sided hint at an attraction is not a romance. So how are they doing a dis-justice to the original if they had no romance to begin with?
This is a reboot. One that has already implemented its fare share of changes. This should be looked at as its own show, with its own merit. From what I gather most of the characters have changed a lot anyways. If you want to see the OS again, then go rewatch the OS.
You’re upset. Its cool. Just dont sit here and stew about how this isnt staying loyal to the OS because of something that was never officially in the OS. I think that’s BS.

I get pretty sad when my ships crash and burn and sadly 99% of them do. I worship my few ships particularly Buffy/Angel, Sawyer/Kate, Freddie/Sam, Lily/Snape most of which crashed and burned or never even existed at all and life though grey for a while continued and I still enjoyed the show/books/movies because though enjoyable its just fiction that isn’t just about the smooches and love! Besides if I was that unhappy i knew I could always live my ship through fanfiction and fan art! That is healthier than going ape at creators and whatnot who probably could care less about some nonsensical rant on their page.
As for people who say one pairing is canon over the other in thundercats that has and always will be up for debate and besides that this show is making a lot of things it’s own and that should have been obvious from the get go that things were not going to be the same as before. You know what else I have to sigh in exasperation about? People moaning and complaining next after week after week about characters not being the way they were in the original, well yes. It’s a reboot! Things should be different so stuff doesn’t get boring, why is it so hard for people to accept the changes and just go along for the ride? More importantly why would you want to see what ends up being the same story as before when the characters are left completely unchanged?? If you want to see OS Tygra, Panthro. Lion-O, Snarf etc pop in the OS dvds!

Actually, this is exactly what I’ve been assuming as well.
Both of you bring up very good points. I’m all for anyone getting the most enjoyment they can, out of the things they love. It was just something that’s been sticking in the back of my mind, occasionally making the hairs on my arms and neck stand up…LOL.

Ps. It occurs to me though that if it IS mostly a case of young people being young, I should just be happy that they are appreciating something I’VE always loved as well and really…how much stranger is it, than me being a 36 year old man who loves a cartoon this much? LOL. 
I don’t see anything wrong with being older and loving cartoons. My older brothers and my mom still watch 'em. They seem normal enough to me. I’m almost 21 years old and I still enjoy a good cartoon. No ones said anything to me yet:thumbsup:
I dont even see too much of a problem with people who get really invested in them. As long as the house is in order, whats wrong with a hobby? It’s when you start acting like your in the “target” audience, but you claim to be married with a college degree and 3 kids, that trips me out.
I’m 26 and sometimes my family thinks I’m a little strange for still being really into cartoons and fantasy works, but I’m far from a weird sad adult kid who lives for it and it only, it’s a nice escape but most people would never know my passions unless they came home to my sketches, murals, drabbles and various posters how much of an imagination I have. I’m a professional, and even manage a group of 10 others some much older than myself, my best friend jokes that I’m a complete Vulcan at work at logic and professionalism. There’s nothing wrong with loving it, if anything I think adults of this time could do better with a little more imagination, its a great place with zero boundaries!

It’s just another great thing I can share with my girls, disclosure I’ll use to go back on topic: my eldest loves TyChee just because it leaves Lion-O single and -quite possibly- available. Guess she’s young enough to believe they could be introduced in a couple of years or something

I’m older than most fans and enjoy shipping with OC’s to challenge the cannon ones.
Nothing wrong with having a strong fandom of a cartoon, but if folks are getting that upset over which fictional characters are hooking up, then perhaps…ya know…it’s time to get laid in real life.
^Most fanfic writers are young women who don’t want to get laid by just anyone. ; )
However, shipping in general seems to stretch far into the grown men and women territory. It’s important to some. Maybe the experiences gathered in their more mature lives has made it easy for them to project onto a number of romantic scenarios. I’ve also seen many claims by fans of the old show that they have held a conviction for one particular pairing in their hearts and minds since they were young enough to have seen the old show. I find that claim bizarre considering the lack of romance. It’s probably just the whimsical latching of young minds. I for one distinctly remember thinking that the Thunderkittens were related to Tygra due to the orange hair and couple of stripes, never mind the fact that they have to other stripes and tan fur. Some fellows must have saw something others didn’t.
I also remember thinking that Tygra and Cheetara were boring and married, that Panthro was an old man, and that Snarf was Lion-O’s pet. I was very young when I saw it.

That’s funny. Back when I was a kid watching the OS, I thought the ThunderKittens could be related to Lion-O. Kit’s hair looked just like his except she had a black stripe down the middle.
To the original question of this thread - no, I don’t find it disturbing because I don’t pay that much attention to it. I don’t think it would be any more disturbing than people obsessing over relationships in any tv show with live action characters. It’s all fiction and ficticious characters.
Now that you mention it (Kit’s hair), I think I remember thinking that myself, that she was related to Lion-o. I used to think Kat was related to Tygra (who was Cheetara’s husband btw), and Kit was Lion-o’s sister, but then the kittens were siblings, so on my head that made Tygra and Lion-o brothers as well. I also used to think Jaga was their father.
The only one who wasn’t related at all was Pantrho (he was the odd one: gray, bold, pointed ears, etc).
I thought when I was little Tygra and Cheetara had adopted the kittens because I knew as much that the kids were ‘‘wildcats’’ and Tygra was a tiger and Cheetara a cheetah so I was pretty sure they weren’t exactly blood related. But since they acted so much like their guardians/parents especially when Tygra tells them to stop playing with their food in one of the first episodes I was convinced they were their adopted children probably helped me conclude Tygra and Cheetara were a couple even more…
wow…you have got to be a diehard fan of both tygra and cheetara. i think it is pretty cool how fans are loyal to some of these characters. i also seem to notice that most thundercats fans in most forums aren’t liono fans. i really would like to know why most people don’t like the character because im actually a lion fan.
I think Lion-O has tons of fans. I always thought that, because the show focuses so heavily on him; that it was more fun to speculate and go back and forth on the other less explored characters.
