Season 2 revealed at Powercon

Yes, Snarf and his kind are related to the cats.

read it, didnt like it

read it, didnt like it…nothing to do with the old show…guess im was hoping for a reboot that at least resembled the os in some way…still no lunatacs, berserkers, BENGALI!..more pumyra?? again??..this season 2 sounds like it was going to move as slow as the first one. when exactly were they planning to bring Bengali? season 5??..old thundercats has so many elements to pull from and yet they insisted on re-inventing the wheel…so many fans have posted things they would’ve liked to have seen rebooted, especially characters…safai joe, mongor, etc…and instead they are going to focus on the origins of SNARF! i dont think anybody cares about the origins of snarf!..anyway as a fan of the old show…i was tremendously disappointed with the reboot…no loyalty to the original series…

I actually very much like the ideas. I love it when shows try to be gutsy and present darker themes, especially within confines of them being a children’s show. In my opinion, the changes made are just fine since it gives each character the depth they need to be unique amongst their peers. I see Pumyra’s corruption by Mumm-Ra as one of those sensitive and delicate additions to give the story some freshness and further expand each character’s motivation (or at least keep it unique). Lynx-O’s story was bit of a surprise, but again, its something that trudges those gray areas in between good & bad, same goes for Slythe. I love it when villains are given such depth, its hard to call them villains at that point if they are driven by some personal vendetta they think was committed onto them by the hero. In case of Slythe, I think his reasons are solid. I’d say the quality of the show would’ve seen a dramatic increase come season 2. Shame it didn’t pick up, lousy CN

I only really want to know how they would’ve ended the show, and what is Mumm_Ra’s origin. At first I thought he might be a Thundercat himself, but that seems no longer valid. Interesting twist on Snarf though, would’ve loved to see where that plot went.

Cartoon Network actually encouraged Mike Young Productions to include violence and death in the 2002 Masters of the Universe series, but they decided against it because they did not feel that it would be true to the spirit of the property. If that is indicative of the prevailing minds at Cartoon Network, then they likely would have encouraged the direction of Studio 4°C for season two of ThunderCats.

Moreover, Warner Bros. seems to only be concerned with receiving the licensing fee from Bandai on time. If they were invested in the property at all, they would have put more money into the production of the DVD sets of the original series and would have awarded the toy license to another company like Mattel.

That leaves only Bandai to object to the killing of Lynx-O and Pumyra and I do not expect them to have much pull with the other two.

WOW…Dan Norton and the crew have just confirmed they were totally the wrong people to work on a Thundercats reboot.
These ideas are terrible, how could anyone expect this crap to appeal to children? Granted some of the ideas are more interesting than what happened in season one but they are still bad.
Hopefully WB will get the job done right next time by a more competent team.

Finally, someone who agrees, i could deal with the ideas about the last stone and with Snarf (more or less), but to have Pumyra, Lynx-O and Slithe killed off, that just feels wrong (i might have been able to tolerate the latter, but for it to be as a redemption move, that just seems like something Pumyra should have done)

Hi, srebak. I hope Lynx-O, Slithe, and Pumyra will get better treatment in your story.

That’s the problem indeed. I think these ideas are INTERESTING for a more dark tone and maybe for grown-ups but as a children show this is just insane.

Like said it could have just been ideas that maybe never would be put through at all but this is what we have and that’s how it is.

Bengali is Cheetara and Tygra’s son. That’s another interesting piece of information I discovered from the NS crew.

EDIT: Whoa, where did you get that info?

Plans can change a lot between seasons. Just as an example, there’s Avatar; Toph and Azula were originally going to be boys, Iroh was originally going to be secretly a villain, and even in Legend of Korra, Asami was going to be a villain before they changed their minds. I think this was revealed in the artbook.

It’s hard to tell just how concrete these season 2 details are anyway. It wasn’t green lit, and we don’t know how far these ideas were developed. The only thing I really can’t say I like from these details is the killing, but the rest of the ideas, like Slythe’s backstory, his grudge against Lynx-O, Pumyra’s corruption, and Snarf’s origin I really do like.

What I would do is maybe only have it seem at first like Tygra killed Pumyra to save Lion-O. It was mentioned that there was a possibility of redeeming Pumyra, so perhaps when Pumyra has the chance to kill Lion-O, she hesitates, and this gives Tygra a shot. and maybe he really does kill her, but Lion-O uses the Spirit Stone to purify Pumyra’s spirit. Whether or not this would save her and bring her back to life I’m not sure, since I don’t know if Mumm-Ra bringing her back to life would be considered a second chance or if it’s really “true” life. The stone could only bring Lion-O back to life once after all.

As for Slythe and Lynx-O, it really depends on what kind of character Lynx-O was planned on having. Going the optimistic route, what I would do is have Lynx-O secretly bear the guilt of having killed the hatchlings. Lynx-O did not realize what he had done until it was too late, and then had to fight an enraged Slythe, who blinded Lynx-O with a torch. When Slythe finally comes to face Lynx-O again, Lynx-O decides to let Slythe take his life to atone for his actions. At first Slythe can’t really comprehend this, and is about to decapitate Lynx-O, but he can’t bring himself to do it. It’s this moment that really shakes Slythe, and it’s when he begins to understand forgiveness, and sees how it will help unite the rest of the animals, leading to Slythe betraying Mumm-Ra.

And as for Snarf, I don’t know if him being related to the Cats and Mumm-Ra should be a huge plot point, but I hope more details surface. The real importance here is that Mumm-Ra created the Cats and possibly the rest of the animals to be his soldiers, probably through a mix of science and magic.

I’m not against darker plots. In fact I love unhappy endings. Like the alternate ending to the butterfly effect where Ashton kills himself in his mothers whom. But that’s getting off subject. I just don’t think it has a place in cartoons directed at children.

Cartoons such as these are escentially half-hour toy commercials and as such you wouldn’t expect to see the product being advertised killed, beheaded or what have you. It’s just not good business sence.

Knowing part of what they had planned, I feel better that they had not done a second season, this is a disaster. These are not the Thundercats.

Bengali is the son of Cheetara and Tygra? So she really let aside his role as a cleric?

The third season would be several years later with Bengali grown (10 years old) and Lion-O single (27), then the fantasy of Wily Kit with Lion-O will be realized… Eww!

To Gold Lion: I discovered that little tidbit from the ThunderCatsNOW Facebook page.

Sorry but I didn’t find anything on that page linking someone as a credible source saying it, any chance of getting us some solid proof of that? I can’t even find mention of it there.

I didn’t find it either. I’ll remain skeptical.

I found the comment: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=517911528282896&set=a.105154642891922.9603.104707792936607&type=1&comment_id=1477944&reply_comment_id=1482326&total_comments=2

Still not 100% proof, but I guess we’ll see.

Yup skeptical as heck. I’m gonna go ahead and say fan rumor that Bengali is Chee and Tygra’s cub, it sounds way too unusual of a twist that doesn’t seem to fit with the plans for the series.

It’s not that I’m against Bengali being their son, it’s just there’s no real proof and it does sound straight from a fan fiction.

I’m gonna wait for Dan to let us know, not that I don’t trust Manny or Celeste just want more credibility before my mind is blown.
Merged Post:

I’m not against it either it just doesn’t seem to fit, besides how do a tiger and cheetah produce a full white tiger? And if that’s the case what is the purpose of a child tagging along or were we eventually going to jump into the future? Okay I lied I am against it, it just screams lazy trying to package itself as shocking.

Hm. Unless he’s adopted and around the twin’s age I don’t see how that would work out. Even then, I would feel cheated if he got the same treatment as the twins. I think most fans would want him in the same circle as Tygra, Lion-O, Cheetara and Panthro. Not kicking it with the kids and Snarf.

Making him a next generation character seems kind of unfair too.

Would be nice to get confirmation either way, and if it is true more on what and why.
