SDCC Exclusive Figure

Hoping we’ll get some legit Matty info, but this is worrisome.

I think it is safe to assume that one of the two things will happen:

  1. Super7 will take over releasing the Thundercats and MOTU Classics figures in 2017.
  2. The line is done and the rumour of Mattel only making the 2016 figures are true.
If it is the latter that is really disappointing for all those that subscribed wanting the core line up of characters.
On a plus side hopefully Mattel have realised that products at mass retail is the best way.

I’m also thinking that Super7 might be taking over the release of the TC line for 2017. Does anybody know if they actually did subs in the past? I know nothing of them, so it sounds possible purely on the fact that the twins are to be collected at their stand.

That’s just the thing. They DIDN’T invest a great deal of money in the line, hence the subscription method. If they cancel the line, they won’t lose much, or anything at all. Via subscription, Mattel has opted for a “made-to-order” approach. You pay, then they make.

In all honesty I don’t feel that Mattel even put much emotional investment in the Thundercats line either. Reusing the DVD images for the packaging, the poorly done Thundercats text, the wrong descriptions on the packaging, the wrong coloring of the figures. It all seems too half-hearted to me.

Has there been any management changes at Matty lately?

Lots LOL. I read that a while back…but that was Scott Neitlich ‘Toyguru’ that said about the amount of management changes so the amount of truth in that statement is debatable.

Personally I was never to impressed with the sculpts as I am not a fan of the MOTUC buck body. I think if Mattel had really invested in the line they would have improved the body and created a new buck to help make the figure more individual with accurate sculpts.

Does anybody know what date the TC exclusive will be made available for pick up at the SDCC? I know the con starts on the 20th, so will it be available from the 20th? If anybody gets theirs, will you please post photos??

I think you are over exaggerating on “The line is done and the rumour of Mattel only making the 2016 figures are true”
Who’s the source? Is it a legit source? or is just a fan with a no tolerance policy that wants things made by now when we ALL being with out a toy line for more than almost 30 years…

I am not exaggerating anything. I am only repeating the rumour that someone raised at Toy Fair.

i’am sick of hearing these rumour’s about the line ending . the sooner this is put to bed the better .we should get the answers at sdcc .

Well I went ahead and got myself a set of ThunderKittens to be on the safe side. Didn’t pay thru the nose either which is nice.

it’s not so simple for us on the other side of the pond to get the kittens off ebay as the shipping prices are stupid .

If that was the case I don’t think they would’ve bothered resculpting heads when fans complained. Lion-O maybe, but by the time they did the same with Pumyra the sub had already been closed.

I think most folks are unaware that “resculpting” or making changes to toy prototypes nowadays isn’t that complicated, expensive or time consuming as it once used to be. I have plenty of buddies who work in the video game industry so I know how these things work.

Almost all big toy makers these days do their “sculpting” digitally on computers. So any changes that are proposed (by fans or the execs) can be made with a few clicks of the mouse. Then it’s just a matter of priting out another copy (thanks to 3d printers).

Lion-O was the first toy in Mattel’s new line up so obviously they are going to listen to the fans otherwise some won’t subscribe. As for Pumyra, well maybe they did that to ensure continued future subscription?

I find myself feeling fine either way. I was really looking forward to the figures, but that excitement has been brought down to a simmer. Maybe a case of collectors fatigue, I dont know. The momentum is lost. The waiting, the silence on Mattels part, the disappointing SDCC exclusive… How ever this turns out, I’m not subbing again. I’m very happy to get Mumm-Ra and the rest, but that will be it.

Agree the waiting and silence on Mattel’s part is a killer … when I got into MOTUC the waiting was already over and the sub was only after the first few figures were in our hands already, so having product in hand changes this perspective A LOT! I think the fact that we have to wait over a year for the first figure is a huge frustration … if we had Lion-O in hand I think things would have been different! Plus, if mattel was more open and active on the forums like Toy Guru was on he-man.org then it keeps the spark alive!

Yeah It was cool how with MOTUC they got several figures or so out before the subscription method was introduced.

Congrats on getting the twins! I also got my set this week. And saved a bit - just paid $39 more for them than at SDCC.

Quite true - they are hellishly expensive. I knew postage would be $30 odd to South Africa. Luckily I found a seller that offered decent postage (others charged up to $99!!!). If you can get them for under $100 - grab them now.

I’m still optimistic that we’ll get the core characters. If not, whoever (was it Booshman?) said they would do the customs will be getting my money to finish the lineup.
