I may be in the minority with this opinion but I am not overly impressed. Especially for it being the first SDCC exclusive. Something tells me it was done more to be able to get the core characters done quickly than anything else. Nothing wrong with that but just a bit lack luster to me. All that being said, i do still plan on picking them up.
I get what you’re saying. It definitely is an odd choice for an exclusive - 2 main “essential” characters an all. But considering the amount of tooling and accessories they probably needed to take advantage of the extra budget awarded to the comic con slot.
The kittens look stellar! Totally worth the wait for me. Now I just need to get my hands on them!
This was the first thought that crossed my mind I love them…but core characters??? Something also tells me they will probably be available outside of SDCC.
I think they look great! Very surprised, I figured it would be ghost Jaga or something like that. I am surprised they went with such important characters for the exclusive, but they must have needed the extra SDCC money for them. They definitely need to be widely available - more so than last year’s MOTUC exclusive.
Here is a closer look. I think they look great and it was worth the wait.
Core characters released in a box set could also mean they would be releasing them individually with different accessories. But if fans want the hoverboards, SDCC set is the only way to get it.
They would have been very tricky to slot into the main line and do them justice given the 100% new parts required. Mattel always take advantage of the SDCC sku, given the fact it gets it’s own budget and it’smostly used to get those costly characters made.
I’m not really sure exactly what folks who are disapointed were expecting? Did you really want a translucent Jaga over the ThunderKittens? (besides Spirit Jaga might end up appearing the ‘chase’ figure slot next year maybe?)
I think they are perfect for SDCC and I cannot wait to pick them up
I think I might pre-order them from BigBadToyStore in order to guarantee myself at least one set… So happy to finally have the show accurate Space Boards and the lasso and exploding pellet are fantastic accessories. Now I wonder what the pack out will look like…
Ok, wow, they went with 2 essential figures :eek
These are must haves for me which means a whole lot of stress getting hold of em, sky high prices and shipping to Australia…but they will be mine! ![]()
This is great!
Now the panic and wait in hope of being able to get them. Absolute must haves!
First off, I think the Thunderkittens look great! That said, I hope they are easy for us subscribers to buy from Mattel without having to jump through hoops.
They do look great! However… $60!!!

Well that’s a kick in the balls. I would say fair enough if they have early subscriber access in July, before they open it to all. Feels a bit lame to be lumped in with everyone else when I’ve ponied up for 2 subscriptions. The way I see it is subscribers should have priority access for all figures no matter if they can attend cons or not. these are must have figures for any Thundercats fan, as the 4HM said when they were interviewed. If I end up in a situation where I can only go with a scalper on eBay I will be none too happy.
That’s part of my concern about availability through mattycollector. I’d rather not pay higher prices on the secondary market, and don’t like thinking about how much flippers will charge. Mattell, please make enough available for subscribers!:wilykat:wilykit
BBTS will likely have this for $80 or perhaps even $90. It’s too much for two figures, but I can’t risk waiting for the general release on Matty, have it get sold out and then having to rely on eBay with on-going prices.
If no early subscriber access for T-Cats subscribers, I am pre-ordering from BBTS as well. Though it usually gets sold out pretty quickly there too, due to the limited quantity they manage to acquire.
Is there a limit to how many you can get? I see the MOTUC Skeletor is limited to 3. Is it the same for this or less being a con exclusive?
If Filmation Skeletor was limited to 3 on BBTS, then ThunderKittens could be the same or 2.
Didn’t know BBTS had quantity limits. Guess they have to since Matty’s limit is 10.
No, I mean that the limit for Skeletor is 3 on Matty. Just thinking that if everyone tries for the max allowed units with Matty, they can sell to other board members for cost price. I don’t mind trying to get 2 or 3 to cover myself and to make sure no one here misses out.
Oh okay. Booshman, that’s a great initiative by you to help fellow members. Once it’s closer to the sale date, another thread could be created so members can chime in if they are willing to do the same for others as you suggested.
You guys aren’t filling me with confidence ill be able to pick one of these up… lol
Wow…absolutely amazing…those look incredible…the detail is perfect from the cartoon…Mattel is really giving us quaility action figures…I need at least 3 sets…glad they revealed this SDCC exclusive…so much negativity on this forum still…so many “assumptions”…line hasn’t even launched…comic on hasn’t happened and so many on here continue to bash the line and Mattel…comparing it to MOTU…jumping to conclusions bout possible cancelations…etc…I’m stoked about this line…and this reveal has left me speechless..awesome time to b a thundercat fan..
