Romance in ThunderCats/Should Lion-O have a love interest?

Cheetara has spent a lot of time watching over and protecting Lion-O though, and for the first half of the season she pretty much had his ear and acted as his confidant. If another character comes in and takes over that job from her then even if she’s content with Tygra it’s easy to see how she can become jealous. Even if she’s not romantically interested in him she can still feel possessive of him. I think if another woman came along and started giving Lion-O a lot of attention she probably would be concerned, even if she does love Tygra. It’s not a romantic jealousy, but it can be mistaken as such.

Yeah, I could see that. I could see it leading both Tygra and Lion-O to confusion over her motives, but I don’t think it’ll stem from romantic feelings.

Who hasn’t been intimidated by the “new friend”? You might not want to become romantic with your friend, but the fear of losing them to the progression of another relationship can be intimidating.

I wont pretend to know what it is/was, but Ive even gotten a little stupid over seeing an old admireror moving on to someone else. Even if you’re not interested, the attention ( appropiate) is flattering. For a split second you might feel like yesterday’s news:rolleyes:

It would probably drive half the fanbase up the wall, but what if Pumyra was physically attracted to Tygra at first sight? Tygra being the attention seeking prince we all know and love, fails to notice Pumyra’s attraction and thinks she’s just stating the facts. I mean, who doesn’t find him suave, smart, attractive…etc, etc? All leading to Cheetara telling the sweet girl that our stripped prince is off the market. Sad, but true:cool:

Lion-O sympathizes with Pumyra, and tells her he’s been there. Awww, look, a bound over a similar experience. Hmmm, wonder where that might go???

Personally, I don’t want to hear the fandom going back and forth about how Cheetara is this and that and toying with everyone’s emotions. Even if it all turns out to be another case of miss-communication, this fandom can be really harsh on Cheetara:eek:

I actually want Pumyra and Lion-O to have a rough beginning. I want to see the kids work for it:thumbsup: You never know what will happen in the future, and watching those type of relationships develop can be fun.

For those who are putting blame on Cheetara
As for comments regarding Cheetara and her backstory…the Love Triangle didn’t do anything to ruin her character. The triangle made Lion O look like an immature ass and it revealed Tygra’s issues with his brother. Cheetara didn’t lead Lion O on at all. She was being supportive and protecting him as she had promised Jaga she would. Sadly some people are taking this the wrong way..just as Lion O did…I urge you to look at this with mature eyes and you will see she didn’t lead him on at all. Lion O led himself on. I’m still waiting for Lion O to apologize to her for being a jerk just before the trials.

As for Pumyra and Lion O having a rough start ..ABSOLUTELY!!! This is what I’m putting my money on for the ship. It would make the most sense..most relationships..the good ones that last..take time and work. That’s a big life lesson for LionO to learn. It’s not always a love story like Cheetara and Tygra…where it’s love at first sight. I really think this is the direction to take a Lion O and Pumyra pairing…they hate each other at first..and slowly through the series come together, thus allowing the audience to warm up to the new character…and the pairing itself.

That way they can play with it a lot more, false starts and almost confessions and all that jazz, kind of like Kira and Odo from DS9, eventually leading up to a moment of pure clarity where the oblivious party realizes how dumb they’ve been and just how much the other means to them.

Lol..well not literally “hating” each other per say..more like..they have a rough start getting acquainted with one another/ trusting each other…then have them develop a friendship..then let that friendship develop into more…

Hating might be too strong of a word. More like a mutual annoyance:cool:. That way they can struggle over admitting their feelings. I guess it stems from me wanting to see Pumyra as more assertive and edgy than Cheetara. Falling in love with her might not be so easy. Hey, sometimes what we don’t want is exactly what we need:D Fandoms tend to eat that love/hate dynamic up, so I think it would make a lot of fans happy. Yet, I really liked your fic . I’m open to lots of possibilities.

I would like it if one of them figured it out before the other. Also, I could still see that last part working itself into my scenario as well. Maybe Lion-O will take a bad hit for the unskilled Pumyra, and she will realize she needs to work on the combat training. Not only for herself, but as a thank you to Lion-O as well. QUE THE ANIME SPARKLES! Eventually, Pumyra begins to see that because of Lion-O she’s become a better person, and that becomes the gateway for her feelings. Super anime. Sorry all.

How so? I didn’t get this impression at all. Tbh the whole thing got a “eh wtf is this?” reaction from me when Cheetarah and Tygra started kissing because I just didn’t expect it at all, as there was never any romance in thundercats, or cartoons like this, so I wasn’t looking for it. But Lion-O’s reaction was pretty normal if you think about it went down, and he seemed to move on as well.

I dunno, I just never understood that old chestnut of “belligerent sexual tension” (also known as “love at first punch”). Two people who annoy each other that much are never going to come to the point where they act on their attraction to each other and all too often it just comes of as forced at best or unhealthy at worst (see the Berg/Ahsley relationship of "Two Guys and a girl). It’s just really hard to pull that sort of thing off right even if you have the time to fully develop the characters and, on a more personal note, would hate to see one of my favorite shows use one of my major pet peeves.

I’d just much rather have them start out as friends rather than mutual annoyances.

I think normal depends on who you ask. If I was Cheetara in that scene by the captured tank, I would have told the kid to go … himself.

I’m still waiting for Lion O to apologize to her for being a jerk just before the trials.

It would be cool if in “Survival of The Fittest” we get a brief scene where Lion-O tells Cheetara basically that he no longer holds any resentment. That since The Trials, his eyes have opened more, and that after all she has done for him, from watching over him and believing in him as a leader, he feels very honored to have her as his advisor and friend. And he tells her that this time he wholeheartedly means it when he says he’s happy for her and his brother.

Then Cheetara would smile and vow her head and say something like, “Thank you, my king. I truly needed to hear that from you. My heart does belong to Tygra, but know that you represent an ideal that is bigger than me, and I shall always be ready to be at your service and, if necessary, give my life for you!”

Hence, this would allow a clear entrance for Pumyra in “The Pit”.

Thank you! I took a bit from the original..then tidbits from other fanart that’s out there. I liked the idea of short shorts instead of the skirt..this would make it more practical for her to move around in a fight…still I wanted to keep the whole skirt look so I added on that flap thingy in the front for decoration…In my fanfic fantasy pumyra isn’t any ordinary cat..but a princess..a warrior princess… To show her status in the cat world she has gold accessories including the necklace/collar that the character originally wore..
She’s a perfect match for Lion O !! He’ll be like.. Cheetara? Cheetara who? LOL!!

I’d call myself an extreme fan (at least of the TV show. I don’t really buy the toys), but I agree.
