I think it just went with his character, you know is a generic way. He’s ****y and a bit of a show boat. The roguish charmer kind of guy. Most people assumed that arrogance would extend to his attitude with the ladies as well.

Haha, Tygra is definitely not a player at all. This is the same guy who was literally struck speechless the first time he saw Cheetara and then was too flustered to actually approach her so instead left her secret gifts while hiding behind a statue and watching her from afar.
Sure, he was a kid then, and he obviously became more comfortable in his skin (i.e. the wink), but he just doesn’t strike me as a person who was running around chasing women. He was pretty clearly established as the one who was always at lessons and practicing and studying all the relevant princely things. In contrast to Lion-O, who was less responsible and more fanciful in his interests – the one no one was surprised was late for really important ceremonies or was distracted by them from pretty girls walking by. (To be fair, he’s 17 lol.)

Hmm. I guess I can see people projecting tropes onto him that they assume would fit him and that sticking even after it’s revealed to be inaccurate.
Kind of a shame though because I think Tygra’s actual characterization (a cheesy romantic as regards his OTL) is much more interesting than Random Womanizer #59486054 and would love to read more of that in fic.

He definitely knew it was Cheetara. You aren’t supposed to realize it until later (the nature of the whole red herring and mislead with the love triangle), but the wink is like a puzzle piece along with a lot of other background stuff hinting at a deeper connection/relationship between Tygra and Cheetara before the reveal in the finale. See also: how in the second part of the pilot he’s utterly bowled over when he frees the last cleric and sees that it’s her. The shot of his reaction is both before and even longer than Lion-O’s shot and Tygra is more emotional about it. Because he already knows her.
Fanfiction does interpret 2011 Tygra differently than in the show.

But then a lot of fanfiction seems to interpret all of the characters quite differently than they are in the show.
I guess everyone has their visions of what they’d like the characters to be.
Or, less kindly, many people have visions of what characterizations serve their interests as regards their favorite characters/favorite relationships.
I think most people just assume because Tygra seems so confident it extends to romantic behavior, but seriously I’ve seen waaaaay more examples of a self-conscious, insecure TYgra than a know it all when it comes to love, I really think Tygra fancies himself schooled out of those traits when it comes to Cheetara but she knows him better and probably even loves that hes secretly a dork under that handsome self assured mask always trying to please her with corny lines.:rolleyes:

Though, I’ve seen Inexplicably Romantically Experienced Tygra, at least, a bunch in fic that was pro-Tygra/Cheetara as well.

Indeed, I mean Tygra’s c-ockiness in and of itself is pretty clearly a cover for insecurity. Though, it is amusing that Cheetara does seem to genuinely find his bluster endearing.
Veering off the topic of romance to brotherly stuff (sorry I just… love all the relationships romantic and otherwise on the show), but I always wonder how much of Lion-O’s insecurities could be owed to his actually buying into Tygra’s bluster and “perfection” and not realizing that his big brother had secret vulnerabilities as well.
I write fanfiction and do my very best to make sure the characters are identical to their show counter parts, I’ll even try to somehow incorporate new information that we learn from new episodes into them to get an accurate character study, even retaining personality traits I dont care for, such as Tygra’s sometimes below the belt behavior towards Lion-O (justified or not he can get nasty) and Lion-O’s overemotional “I Lord of over EVERYTHING!!” attitude of the first 14 episodes. Character bashing in a fic is a major turn off even if I don’t care for the character and frankly I can’t read anything thats obviously a tantrum by someone who’s ship sunk or abhors a character, its just a thinly veiled character bash, I can’t even imagine it’s thundercats anymore I get a picture of some loony breathing heavily over their laptop typing furiously in rage CAPS.

To be fair, I love all the characters on this particular show so it’s easy for me not to feel compelled to bash them, but even when I’m not especially fond of a character I try to be completely fair to them and how they’re represented by the source narrative.
My rule for fanfiction is: if you can read my fic and tell which characters I don’t like based on the way I write them, then I’ve failed.
I mean, I guess there’s something to be said for catharsis and playing to your audience – if writing angry fanfiction for themselves and the similarly afflicted is how someone deals with their ship angst, well. There are far worse things they could be doing in the grand scheme of things.
But it does get a bit tiresome when you’re just looking for some fic to read and you aren’t actually furious at the show/ships/miscellaneous characters for existing. Then you end up reading a fic because you just wanted to see Pumyra and Cheetara have a pleasant/funny conversation and it is… something else entirely.
THIS. I too follow this rule when writing, I don’t enjoy character bashing fics even when I’d love to destroy the character personally I can’t get with it in fanfiction. I read a story to escape my reality to go to say Thundera’s and nothing is more irritating to my imagination than not being absorbed because my brain says ‘hey wait a sec that doesn’t sound like something so and so would do’. To be completely honest Im not crazy about Pumyra (le gasp I know) thus I have not written her, I believe a lot of that apathy comes from me not knowing her yet and my opinion will change from don’t care too much to liking her a lot, as of now I dont even understand the apathy I have for her I often adore characters/people like her, strong but abrasive (Sam of Icarly), (Jade on Victorious) (Helga Hey Arnold), anything Michelle Rodriguez etc.
I’ve found Pumyra’s personality to be shallow and getting old fast…good thing she’s not sticking around forever…but, then again, her sticking around would be the only way to expand her flavor. More that just “tough chick”, please? Thundercats goes too fast and shows no sign of slowing down. I seems like they wanted to be like a really long anime…but only got two seasons. So many references to make, so little screen time. Bad enough they want everyone to find love. All of this and the necessary action, where is the exposition and character development?

I disagree. She’s only been in two episodes and I think we’ve seen as much as we can be expected to have seen in that short a time and it doesn’t render her shallow. She has a lot of pain and rage due to the things she’s been through, but she’s obviously got softer sides as well. She clearly cares deeply about the plight of the people of Thundera and feels very strongly about self-sacrifice and justice and the punishment of the wicked. She’s a good fighter and an abrasive personality with a short temper, but fully capable of warmth (and willing to display it) when she isn’t being set off. She’s also not prideful and completely willing to admit when she’s wrong or has reconsidered her positions.
You don’t have to personally like her. But I don’t think it’s fair to call her shallow.

Everyone doesn’t NEED romance, but romance is a big part of many people’s experience which is why it gets included in fiction. Particularly considering the youth of most of the main characters, having romantic sideplots/fixations is pretty much to be expected. The chances that they would have romantic interests are high.
I don’t think the romance on the show has at all overridden other things – it’s generally been more of a sidebar – though I do agree that the show has had some pacing issues. I just don’t think it’s the fault of the inclusion of romance or lack thereof.
I have to agree with you on Pumyra but it looks like she’s here to stay.
As for Lion’o love interest well personally i just got over that the Lion’o/Cheetara ship went Titanic so pairing him up with someone whose personality i find revolting (I’m just exagirating don’t get upset) feels like the ancient spirits of evil is taking a P&%¤ on me.
Love interest perhaps but it should IMO be after some more character developing Perhaps at the end of season two.
Right now i wonder what happened to Lion’o interest in tech we haven’t seen him dabble in some machines lately. Would be fun seeing him explore his passions for a while.
Just a few thoughts.
I think Pumyra is here to stay. I don’t see why people don’t think she is. She has been in 3 episodes and shows no sign of leaving. Not only that, there was a perfect chance to kill her off in this week’s episode and they didn’t. I’d say if they weren’t going to have her be permanent they would have hinted at it already. Also, the writers said they were taking a “different approach” on her. Now, this is mostly shown by her characterization, but I’m thinking they’re trying to one up the OS and give her much more development and screen time. It’s a great idea considering how disappointed many people were with Pumyra in the OS.
I don’t get the extreme annoyance with her character. She was skeptical of Lion-O’s ability and then she was shown that he was very capable. And if three episodes was too much for you, then why does Tygra constantly bashing Lion-O for half a season get shrugged off? In my opinion, it doesn’t seem fair to judge her when another character did the same thing for a much longer time. I in no way hate Tygra, but he went against Lion-O for about 13 episodes before he had a change of heart. Pumyra changed after 3, so she’s obviously got some good in her.
What is wrong with romance? Tons of shows have more than one romance going on and they manage to keep the action going too. It adds real-life aspects into shows and allows for major character development. Lion-O being with Pumyra could benefit both characters in multiple ways. She can be encouraging to Lion-O and he can calm her down a bit.

It’s not her berating of Lion’o its the fierce, stoic, butch, tomboyish and maybe femme fatale stereotypical behavior for a modern day heroine that’s getting old it’s not just this series it’s always some chick in the team that tries to play badass to the point of exaggerating it. It was cool when they did that in older series but now there’s so many of them that the appeal has dropped.
Hey some of us have heartaches from the time our last ship sunk (I’m only speaking for myself) pushing this new relationship on us is something we’re not ready to accept. The new pairing (it sure is hinting that way) is already well liked by most it’s just that some people are a little bitter that they didn’t get what they wanted (again only speaking of myself).
I myself don’t find Pumyra annoying or extremely engaging, I can take her or leave her right now, I am curious to see how she will fit in with the group as she seems to be more of a solitary “I do it my way” cat.
I DO hope they slow down any romance with her and Lion-O, it just feels too soon for anything serious without completely getting over his feelings for Cheetara, it can come off making Lion-O’s feelings for Cheetara shallow and a teenager with raging hormones easily swayed by something else pretty to look at and Pumyra look like a consolation prize and I am not okay with that. I want something well rounded for the both of them, not shadowed by Lion-O still feeling things for Cheetara, I want that chapter closed before Lion-O and Pumyra develop something like love.
I think Lion-O has been over Cheetara since after the trials.
Dan Norton explained this in a Thundercats FB fan page. Basically it’s that the destruction of Thundera made him see all the bad things that can come from Technology. “Technology was my dream…how did it become my nightmare?”
On the other hand Tygra who was initially skeptical about technology, now embraces it as a useful edge in the fight against Mumm-Ra.
