Okay, not long after we get the two new generals Addicus and Kaynar, we get ANOTHER one, Rataro!!
Whose excited about this? Personally I can’t wait! What do you guys think he’ll look like? Will he be an actual General? Or perhaps some sort of dungeon keeper? (Makes sense since he’s a rat and he’s in charge of the slaves it seems?) Will he keep his armour and twin sais with crazy lazer eyes from the OS do you think? Do you think he will still outrank Slithe as he did in the OS? I can’t wait to see this reincarnation of him.
I really hope he still has his Rat’s Eye daggers. Most of the Villains in this show look pretty close to their OS counterparts (Driller being the main exception). Maybe tone down some of the gaudiness of his costume. Make it a little more samurai armor and less cloth.
It would interesting if he has rat’s eye daggers(sai) and also it would be nice if adicus could get that fireball shooting sheild he had in the original series.
Only because he outranked Slithe in the mutant army in the OS. The other option I see for him as I said is a dungeon master type character, not in charge, but in charge of the prisoners/slaves, that would be kind of cool. But on the other hand it would be cool to have him outrank the other generals and see if they follow orders too! lol! We do know at least he’s making the slaves look for the sword.
Having Ratar-O as a dungeon keeper and overall slave-keeper would make sense in the upcoming “Curse of Ratilla.” If you think about it, this past Saturday’s episode, “The Pit” was the beginning of a new storyarc, with Pumyra’s introduction, and learning that other Thunderians have survived the fall of Thundera, and have been enslaved to find the Sword of Plun-Darr in the mines of Plun-Daar.
In fact, these next batch of episodes, starting next month are going to be closely related, with “The Forever Bag,” as the conclusion, when WilyKat and Kit catch up with Tookit and get their things back.
This would be a great setup to re-introduce Lynx-O to the team. Here’s what I’m thinking. Since Lynx-O was blind in both the OS, and new series (it seems), it wouldn’t be a surprise if he could get around the mines with just his sense of hearing because it wouldn’t matter if the mines were badly lit or not. Now, seeing since Claudus made Lynx-O one of his generals (see episode 5, “Old Friends,” when Panthro was introduced to the team) I could see Lynx-O using his military skills to aide his fellow enslaved Thunderians during these hard times.
Since we are talking about Ratar-O, I’m also willing to bet that we’ll see other slave-keeping rats in the mines of Mount Plun-Darr. It’s a classic setup, where the dungeon and slave-keepers use whips on their captives when they were too tired to do their masters’ biddings.
In all honesty, I’m looking forward to seeing how Ratar-O is going to look like when he’s introduced.
I hope so too, they were pretty iconic for the character weren’t they? I’m definately with you on the toning down, I imagined sort of piece meal, scrounged together armour that looked like he had found it in a sewer, really down and dirty, a bit of rust, but very menacing nonetheless. I like the samurai idea, the linked armour fits in well with what I imagined I think.

I agree, Rataro having overall command of a rat battalion/workforce or something, that just watched over the slaves. The whip is just a classic you are right. I think it would be so cool when the cats infiltrate just to have a rat lackey whipping some Thunderians, and on the last swing Tygra appears, catches the end of the rat’s whip with his own and sends the rat into an abyss with a single punch!! The rat soldiers would be brilliant. They could do a lot with those characters, make them really vicious enemies for the cats in the tunnels/mines underneath plundarr.
If Lynxo IS a slave, then they’d better have a flashback telling how it took half a lizard battalion to bring him down! Haha! And even then he’d only surrender because Slithe threatened to kill a civilian!
Would be fun to know what “ranks” the Rats have in this world. As the cats are the “best”, we can kinda guess how the dogs and lizards are, but the rats?
I for one would like him to be a general/king of the rats and he wants the sword as much as Mumm-Ra does. So the Thundercats is getting two enemies but they are completely different and does not fight for each other. Kinda like this:
My goodness!! I hope that does happen because it would work SO WELL! The way the series has been going, with the Lizard Army, I can definitely see this happening with the rats as well. In fact, I love the scene you suggested, where Tygra beats the stuffings out of one of the slave keepers as he’s about to whip one of his victims. It works so damn well and it’d definitely be a classic “Cat and Mouse” scenario. The thoughts and speculations are enough to have me excited.
I’m willing to bet that we will be getting a flashback that explains how Lynx-O got captured by the lizards and later turned to the rats.
That would be pretty interesting! Or working for Mumm Ra with the other mutants/generals in Mount Plundarr, but just waiting till he can find the sword and then keeping it for himself, betraying everyone! How rat like is that?!?
I agree about the status thing too, we’ve already seen what the dogs and cats think of each other, I wonder what they make of the rats? lol!

I just think it would be really cool to see the rat going hell for leather on the Thunderians, to see his surprise at his whip being stopped, then having an image of the whip straining against Tygras bolowhip tied around it, then Tygra appearing and saying something like 'get your stinking claws off those cats! BAM!!!

Speaking of Rat soldiers, I think there’s some great scope for having really decent looking individual grunts as well, the way they had varied lizards at the start. Perhaps just with ragged layers of cloth without any armour, or very little compared to Rataro who is obviously in charge.
Speaking of apperances, I’ve just thought, do you think Rataro with have beady red eyes? Or what about the Ghengis Khan type moustache?
Ratar-O is NOT working for Mumm-Ra. Back in the OS it was Ratar-O’s ancestor Ratilla (who this episode is named after) that originally owned the Sword of Plunn-dar. I think the sword fell into Ratilla’s hands after the pyramid crashed landed and he used it to become king of the Rats or some such, but eventually it was lost and Ratar-O has spent his life looking for it.
The episode after this says Mumm-Ra is trying to reclaim the Sword. Why would that be the synopsis of the next episode if it was someone that was working for Mumm-Ra who finds it in this episode?
Hmm, that is a very good point. Assuming of course that they DO find it? Or they find it but can’t reach it for some reason?
So if Rataro ISN’T working for Mumm Ra in this theory, and he is based at Mount Plundarr with the Thunderian slaves, does that mean the other mutants, sorry generals, who DO work for Mumm Ra aren’t based there?
I am SO excited to see Ratar-O. In my opinion, Ratar-O was by far the most underutilized character in the original series and should have become a regular after his introduction in “Feliner”
To have him in this new series is a welcomed addition and I hope he comes off well. I have faith because up to this point, the New Series has done a fantastic job of reimagining and presenting all our old favorites.
Can’t totally discount it, but I would think they aren’t going to be around the mining operation. Slythe is really the only “general” in the sense that he’s commanding the lizard army, or what is left of it. Addicus and Kaynar are more like assassins than overseers of forced labor. I suppose it’s possible one or two of the trifecta would make an appearance, but unlikely.
What would be nice to see is some fallout from Trials Part Two in the pyramid…Mumm-Ra had everything in his hands and his staff messed it all up, a brief interlude where he doles out some collective discipline to his inept crew would be satisfying to witness. It might be a good segue into introducing Vultureman or his equivalent, as well.
Agreed, as well as giving Mumm Ra some much needed bad a*s points. It would be good to show the power he actually has is enough to dole out whatever punishment he likes and make the mutants/generals actually fear him, because so far he has seemed pretty weak at times.
The rest of the mutants though, they dont have to be near the mining operation to be based at mount plundarr? Or do you think that mount plundarr is Rataros domain and each general has command of his own, ie Slithe and the lizards have a swamp somewhere.
As a weapon nerd and long time practitioner of martial arts myself, I do agree with you, they are daggers. HOWEVER, you know as well as I do the Sai is one of the most misrepresented weapons in film and TV (how many times have you seen someone throw it into a wall or a person like a throwing knife, and don’t get me started on elektra!) and technically, the yoku and suka (basically the two ‘prongs’ at the side of the shaft and the handle for the uninitiated) do resemble a Sai, so if the bible wants to call it a rats eye dagger or a pair of rats eye sai, hey I can live with it. I mean technically a sai or a dagger arent supposed to be able to have telekinetic powers and deflect or shoot energy blasts either, but Rataro’s does, and a bo or quarterstaff certainly can’t grow from 6 inches to 6 feet, but it does in Cheetaras hands (no rude jokes people!) So I’m willing to suspend a LITTLE belief here. Monkians cannonball shooting shield on the other hand was a step too far!

I am mostly excited about Ratar-o because we might get a very good origin story of the Sword of Plun-Darr as well. Rataro was the General of the Mutant Army back in the OS and a descendant of ‘Ratilla the Terible’, the first owner of Sword Of Plundarr! Also, Jaga had fought him, it’s worth mentioning he was depicted younger during the battle!, and after beating him, he buried the mighty sword deep underground the core of Thundera, eventually we learn this was the reason which let to the destruction of Old Thundera.
I wish they bring bAck his flagship the Ratstar. His weapon is the Rat’s Eyes, they actually resemble to Sais but they are more like a pair of daggers with gems embedded. The writers have much resources to explore with this character and i hope they bring us an amazing episode.Generally, the majority of episodes which featured flashbacks and background stories so far where truly unique, this one has all the potential to be among them.
