It was a fun episode. While I will agree that following another story, almost to the letter, is not the most original method of storytelling, it should be noted that TONS of other television series have had an episode centered around the themes of Moby Dick. This homage is mostly present in sci-fi.
While some might see Lion-O’s motives turn on a dime near the end of this episode I think it might be fair to say that even though Lion-O wouldn’t let anyone stand in his way, he wouldn’t necessarily sacrifice those same people to obtain his goal.
To me this was more a filler episode that still progresses the story. Which isn’t a terrible thing, but I think we can all agree that the real meat of this tale is the Cats against Mumm-Ra and Grune. I love how we have Grune as Mumm-Ra’s general. It works really well. Especially since Mumm-Ra doesn’t have to be talking to himself like in the old series.
The pyramid looks pretty cool, and I bet the obelisks can fold inwards and that the whole structure is actually a ship.
Hmm I don’t really have a problem with this as neither do they so why should we know if anyone else survived yet? They no doubt snuck back through the city to get to where they did the nice little funeral and like us with our shots of the city likely haven’t seen anyone, even the kittens think they might be among the last who survived or escaped the city after seeing the shelter section blown up up close.
For point 8, agreed on the execution of how he took out his frustrations on by chopping the tentacles so aggressively, but the selfishness was tied to those same frustrations so why does he lose a point for it?
9: I think it’s because up until it got quiet and he got out of the net his mind was occupied, once it got quiet there was nothing in the way and even when the ship wasn’t moving it was still subtly bobbing up and down in it’s hover.
10: Well Grune did give him the opportunity to do the trojan horse thing as a highly trusted Thundercat (even friend of the king) so there’s that for why Mumm-Ra took him in, not sure we’ll ever really get more of a reason other than that and a secondary Mumm-Ra needing some lackeys like him and Slythe. The Grune side though I hope will at least be given a little more light as part of Panthro’s introduction, they’ll have to tell us how Grune betrayed Panthro afterall.
Ever since I saw the leaked 9 minute footage of the premiere I wondered why in the world Lion-O said that when the Ally Cats asked him what he was looking at. lol
I don’t think our heroes know that as well, so it makes sense that we don’t know either.
I think they knew it was safe and I think they knew what stragglers there might be, they could have taken care of easy enough. I would doubt they’d have done that before knowing the coast was clear to do so.

Jaga gave him a mission to follow. Granted he decided to change that mission, but he still had a mission. Trying to re-establish society for his people with Mumm-Ra and Grune out there shouldn’t be his first priority, I think.
Don’t know why, but I fear it’s the second one (until they got out of creativity and remember all that, of course, like “hey, right, Claudus was Tygra’s father as well and Grune his mentor, let’s use that now that we don’t know what to do” lol)
I was actually thinking of the Star Trek Movie, First Contact, where the gal accused Picard of being Ahab and the Borg being his whale and how that woke Picard up to the truth and he then quoted Moby Dick and then his anger subsided and he started behaving rationally again.
It’s a shame they didn’t get daring and take a shot at the the Aeneid isn’t it?
Them making a sly reference at fleeing the flaming ruins of Troy would have been very appropiate.
And here’s a interesting question… Are of them thinking Lion-O and Tygra might have a price on their heads as they traveling around? Taking in to account the othe races the cats repressed for years would probably pay a good price for either of them.
Doh! I forgot to mention that in my initial comments.
I thought Whiskers was the name of the gang leader Lion-O was looking at in the first episode when he said that. Now I’m realizing that it’s Lion-O’s expletive when he sees trouble. Like some might say, “Oh snap!” or use stronger language. Interesting and a bit odd, but okay.
I think Lion-O’s motives/emotions changing that fast is believable. Lion-O was established last week as being a level headed guy who wants peace with the other races and not the iron claw. Knowing his established character, this anger he’s feeling, I don’t think it should take much for him to snap out of it.
