I dig the look, but would have loved to have seen her with black scleras; it would have been more consistent with the Puma Clan shown in Legacy.
Evolution: It’s a thing. You’ll notice that all the Cats no longer have the little “teardrop” markings under their eyes as seen in “Legacy” either.
I kinda thought that was a mark of serving Mumm-Ra. I’ve noticed that Kaynar has little marks like that on his eyes. Although neither Slithe nor Addicus have them.
I could definitely see that. I guess what I really liked about the Puma clan designs is that their face markings and coloring corresponded so well with real life cougars. I’m someone that always welcomes change, and I was looking forward to Pumyra deviating very far from the OS (Much like Panthro did). The black sclera would have set her apart from other cats. I have always thought Pumyra looked more like she belonged to the Lynx clan more than being inspired by real-life Pumas, and I thought the Puma clan designs in legacy were too cool to not be used again.
I think her having white sclera is a marketing thing. If she was a one-off minor character it would be fine to have black ones (like the sword forgers), but it might put off the much younger viewers. Having white eyes means she’s supposed to appeal to kids so maybe it means she sticks around and we’ll get a toy over her.
Her and Bengali would be cool.
I don’t think kids would have any real problem with the black sclera. I mean in the old X-Men cartoon Gambit still has his black sclera.
This is definitely a valid point. As much as I love black scleras, I think it would have taken Pumyra further into the uncanny valley. If they really want to show her “cute” side, it’s hard to get that across when her eyes are pits of esotericism.
Now that there are two named adult females in the team, I wonder if Thundercats will start acing the Bechdel test.
I know a lot of people are bummed about this, but they didn’t keep her round pupils from the original. I personally couldn’t care less, but it was kinda cool that she had them in the OS.
The Bechdel test does not require them to be adults, so it has already passed with WilyKit and Cheetara talking while hunting in “Survival of the Fittest.”

I was thinking that maybe Bengali won’t be a white tiger this time, but look like the sword forgers in the Legacy flashback. He may not be a tiger this time, or maybe he will have mixed ancestry. But I think that seeing the blacksmiths in the flashback and their unique appearance may have foreshadowed what Bengali will look like, since (I’m hoping) he’ll be descended from them and know the secret to forging and repairing the Sword of Omens.
But right now I’m hoping Bengali has mixed ancestry, and just got the white hair and blue eyes from the blacksmith ancestors, and the tiger stripes from another.
At first I didn’t agree, but then I thought about it. It would be cool, but the pumas/forgers in the original were never confirmed to have betrayed Mumm-Ra. So maybe Bengali’s ancestors learned form them (since the tigers did not betray Mumm-Ra).
Or Bengali is an orphaned/displaced Tiger who was raised by the descendants of the sword forgers and learned the art from them. I just have this strange feeling that Tygra wasn’t the only one who was sent away when the plague hit. Someone else had to have had the same idea.
Or maybe the plague never hit other clans of tigers at all. Bengali is a different species remember.
