Simple question, after the first season of the new series, which do you like better, the original series or this new series?
New. It’s much more serious and less silly which I like. Mumm-ra is actually a serious villain instead of a beat every ep push over. And the characters outfits are soooo much better. I mean who’s idea was it to have the ab window on original Lion-o? Ugh.
I concur with the Collector, as a 26 year old, I’ll take the new show over the old one any day. Mummra was an incredible pushover joke in the old show. At least he managed to ice Claudus in this one, more than the old mummra accomplished in 120 episodes in the old show. And this show addresses things like romance, death, etc. Topics never touched upon in the old show due to it being the 80’s and for children. Both shows are great at what they did and when they did it though, and I like both. But as a “grown up” now, I’m taking this one hands down.
I like them both.
My heart will always be with the original. Its the one I grew up with and the one that introduced me to this wonderful & vast mythology.
I will say though that the new show has done a wonderful job building off of what the original series established back in the 80s.
So I will say I love them both, no doubt.
I like both, but I think I like the OS slightly more.
I voted NS because I can’t remember half of what people here have spoken about in discussions and when I attempted to re-watch the OS now, I couldn’t do it.
But if it wasn’t for the OS, we wouldn’t have this. I did really like the characters growing up - but in all honesty it probably had more to do with the fact they were cats :p. I love cats.
I’m going to go with still too soon to tell. I like both, but comparing 13 episodes to 130 is a bit unfair imo.

I don’t think I’d have liked the show that much had it been ThunderDogs; not even teh name is nice. And cats are misterious, agile, etc… can you imagine it?

Panthro = (which is supposed to be the strongest dog out there?)
Tygra = Jackalo maybe?
Cheetara = Foxy or Vixen
Wilykit and Wilkyat = dingos maybe?
Then Pumyra, Bengali and Lynx-o could have been a hyena, a coyote and another jackal.
Can’t think one for Jaga and Panthro… guess there are not as many big dogs as there are big cats.
And don’t get me wrong, because I LOVE dogs, I really do.
I like the OS. I wish the NS would improve. I feel 13 episodes have been squandered with too much fighting and not enough character development.
Anyone who has ever written a Thundercat fan fiction story has done a far better job overall in scripting than what we have seen overall so far.

Right, but fanfic writers do not have to cater to children or worry about time constraints. Comparing the two just doesn’t work.
I think you praise the OS to much. It’s not so great if you watch it today as back then. I still like it, but it does not hold up to todays standard.
The NS, with it’s faults IMO is ok for now. I like that they fight but the fights are not even good -.- The stories are rushed as i’ve pointed out million times.
Atm i see them as equals.

Comparing them is (dont get upset) stupid. Fanfic you can do it as you want. As Tygra pointed out they have a schedule to go after. I’m a fanwriter myself and i can write when ever i want.
Mmm… not sure about that. I have enjoyed the NS, especially in the last couple of weeks, and that made me realize a lot of things that apparently the early eps weren’t showing.
But I still watch the OS, especially the pre Lynx-o-Pumyra-Bengali eps, and think it’s great. And it was great for an 80’s cartoon. People say they didn’t bring up subjects like death, but it was there, starting with the destruction of Thundera, following with the Mutants blowing up every Thunerian ship in the first episode, and Jaga’s death.
I did get disappointed with the whole New Thundera thing. I think it was a good message for kids that death happens and you won’t get your beloved ones back… the reconstruction of the planet, besides phisically unreal, was a wrong message to deliver.
Also, I agree in that the OS gave the others more time to shine, even if it was only to be saved at the end. They went out in solo missions, or accompanied by other besides Lion-o. The character development was faster (although I can discuss here how much, but remember it was the 80s), and there were more group action scenes.
I’ve said this in another thread: I understand the feelings are different, and it’s mostly because (I think) in the OS the group already knew each other (maybe except for Lion-o), which made it easier for them to feel comfortable around each other; it’s not the same when you get gathered with some random people because of circumstances and you have to take your time. I think the show can focus on that (the bonding) now.
But what made me like the OS more were mostly the premise and the characters, from the noble TCs to the villains (the Mutants and Mumm-Ra), to the Third Earth inhabitants. The Tcs get to know people, make alliances, recieve help, all that while they explore and get used to that strange planet.
I remember a scene from “Garden of Delights”: Tygra found put about the mole people and he asked himself “does the wonders of this Tird Earth never cease” or something like that… that line was great. The episode was among the first ones, but not the very first, and the TCs still feel amazed by what they discovered in their new home.
In the NS all that happens too fast. They found a new species, learn something, and that’ it, move on to the new episode with the new species and the new lesson. I hope now that Pantrho lost his arms, they will go back to the berbils for help. But I want the TCs to settle, build the Cats Lair and from there explore.
Also, in the OS, heroes and villains got to know each other, mainly ebcasue tere were a few villains. They knew Slithe was the meanest, Monkian was the explorer, Vultureman the inventor, and so on. On the other hand, Mutants got to learn Cheetara was the fast one, Tygra could turn invisible, etc. Now, with a whole lizard army, it’s hard, and it takes something away IMO. I don’t think they even know the TCs names, less of all their powers and abilities. I miss that.
But, on the other hand, the idea of the TCs fighting a whole (lizard) army instead of only 4 mutants is nice… I just think that will ruin the hero-villain dynamics that are also important, at least for me.
And, I enjoyed the OS “guest starrs” (Warrior Maidens, Mole People, Driller, Bersekers, Snowman, Mycrits, Wollos, Wolkians) more than the NS ones (Duellist, Drifter, Paper People, Sand Pirates, Petalars).
So yes, it’s a hard choice as both of them has pros and cons, but right know I’m slightly torn towards the OS… that might change by the end of season 2 though.
That is one person’s, yours, opinion. Please do not assume all people hold that opinion. I for one can still watch the OS and enjoy it just as much today as when I was a child. I could not disagree with your statement more. I think it holds up great with today’s standards. Aside from not caring so much for their outfits in either series, I like the OS character artwork far better than the NS character artwork. I noticed that especially today in someone’s signature who had a picture of Jaga and Lion-O in the Os and a similar pic of them in the NS, I loved how they looked far better in the OS. I definitely like Jaga being more filled out, I thought he looked too thin and sickly looking in the NS. Anyhoo.
Yes. That’s another point for the OS on my list: I liked the art better. Also, they did a better work with showing the character’s emotions through their expressions. Now not that much, although it’s getting better IMO.
Still the whole structure are different. Did the OS have a Story of some sort? Overall BIG story like the new one has?
Nvm i wont argue. People who love the OS will never like the NS as much or never will. Seems like i’m the only one for some reason, guess i will have to be aloner 
I think the OS looked more at story arcs in the NS. They had the arc of finding the lost treasure of Thundera. I don’t think they had much of an arc in the first season. They had the premise of the ThunderCats fleeing their dying home world to find a new one but once they arrived, there was no goal besides becoming Third Earth’s police force to protect innocent people against the evil of Mumm-Ra and the Mutants.
Personally, I find that I enjoy tv show’s more that aren’t on a constant progression. I think mainly because it’s too easy to get lost in what’s going on if you don’t watch every episode and watch them in order. Most of my favorite shows will do mini arcs during the course of the show but not one that lasts from beginning to end of the series. I like knowing if I miss a couple of episodes that I can tune in to the next one and not have to fill in pieces. Anyhoo.
I like them about the same. I feel as though both have their aspects where they outshine the other.

I’ve really enjoyed (most of) the new ThunderCats series, but nothing for me will ever hold a candle to the original - the character designs, the storylines, and just the certain magic that it had. 
Some of it is nostalgia, but not too much - I go back and watch some of the shows I used to love when I was a kid and can’t get into them at all now, whereas ThunderCats still entertains me every bit as much as it did then!
That said, I do really like the new show - I think they’ve done a great job so far of giving us some really interesting and exciting stuff, and I think the series will only continue to grow and develop. With this in mind I was tempted to vote that I like both equally…but I must admit, the original series just pips its newer, younger sibling to the post!

Nor do fic writers have to worry about budget and profit. It’s a business first and foremost. And level-headed adults will sacrifice their entertainment for another priority. Not so with children.
