“These were days of peace and prosperity on third earth. When one empire stood above all others, ruling with a just heart and razor claw, and though omens foretold in the book would be ignored. Loved this! I think this is the best re-imagining of a series I’ve seen. I’m hooked.

Regarding Lion-O and Tygra’s relationship, I think it makes sense. They have their brotherly rivalry, but just because they don’t always get along doesn’t mean they don’t care about each other. They may bicker and have their moments of disliking one another, but when it comes down to it they have each other’s back. I really enjoy the dynamic between them.

For you Swedish folks if there are anyone here i’ve posted my own opinion and some pictures on my blogg.

Note it is in swedish, but you may still look at the scores i gave it if youwant!

Watched it and enjoyed it. I think it’s worthy remake of the original series. Very epic in feel…it felt much longer than its 40ish minutes (in a good way).

I really, really liked how powerful Cheetara was. She was bad-ass and the little bit of mystery they gave her at first had a nice pay-off. I just hope they don’t ruin her with this upcoming love triangle; she needs to be more than just a romantic interest and fan service when she really is the best fighter of the main three. Though being a Cleric, it was odd that she didn’t believe in technology. Also, it must be a pain to fight with those donut sized bracelets.

I think there’s a lot more to Tygra than just an arrogant jerk. I think part of it is that he felt he had to work hard to be the perfect son, since he knew he wasn’t in line for the throne. Being the son of a King (even ignoring the adoption aspect), it would likely make him feel inferior…a reversal on the usual first son (heir), second son (spare) dynamic. I suspect that he’ll be quite a bit different as this series progresses and he no longer has anyone to impress. He sure took to that gun pretty fast, even though he was Mr. Cynical ‘There’s no Book of Omens’ just a day before.

Lion-O makes a great main protagonist for this show. Kids will identify with being misunderstood. They’ll also identify with being a bit of a geek in a way that their parents probably won’t understand (tech geek, anime geek, gamer geek…). His personal sense of morality and ethics makes him a good role model. And here we see how he learns from his mistakes without having to be bashed over the head with the ‘moral of the story’, an 80s cartoon trope that modern shows like South Park love to make fun of.

I liked Mumm-ra’s new voice. It has shades of Gollum from The Hobbit. Seriously. He seems suitably scary and villainous. I didn’t mind his weakness being sunlight instead of his reflection. As an evil, everliving being, it makes sense that he’d be restricted to the night and pulling strings by day (Grune’s for example), much more than being horrified by his reflection (OMIGOD IS THAT A ZIT?! AAAAAAAAHHHHH).

As for the technology, perhaps Mumm-ra enslaved the Robear Berbils to make things for him. We know they still exist (the arm in the tech dealer’s tent), and they’re so odd that having them actually come from another planet would be acceptable in my opinion for this fantasy world.

I wonder if Eldarra (or however it’s spelled) is where Mumm-Ra is holed up and where the Book of Omens is hidden. I think the Thunderkittens are going to tag along with Lion-O’s crew not because they need to, but because the kittens want to use them to get to this mythical place of riches.

Snarf was so cute. I want a little figure of him for my desk.

Animation: Okay
Voice acting: Okay
Music: Mediocre
Story: Fan boy.

MGP

So I finally watched it.

I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would because it looked as I knew eveything already, so note to myself, ignore spoilers lol

What I liked:

Mumm-ra and how bad ass he was but I though it was quite funny that grune had to help him getting up hehe. He wiped out all the clerics with one strike! How powerful will he be in his everliving form!

What I didn’t like so far:

Lizards aren’t really evil, so I hope Slythe turns out really evil. It looks as the Cats are the evil forces on third earth which is all good to me but something tells me they will eventuallybe at peace with the lizards and form a partnership to battle mumm-ra (just a thought) and i hope that doesn’t happen.

I was expecting more epic fights to be honest. mumm-ra vs the Clercs would have been better if it lasted longer than 1 second lol but I think we aint seen nothing yet so my hopes remain high

Conclusion:

It all went by really fast, they had to cram much into the first 2 episodes to start the story, I hope the pacing turns down a notch in future episodes but it was solid and I’m already waiting for next friday as it will only get better probably!

PS I don’t think I would have known that was Lynxo if I hadn’t read it beforehand although it is clearly him! i hope he is captured and not killed by the invasion.

Well I liked it even more on my second viewing, just wish they’d made it a three parter instead of two :p. I honestly can’t wait for the next episode. O and I will change my view on Mumm’y s voice, although its still not that what it could have been but it manages to be menacing enough. Second viewing can change one’s view :D.

Mumm-Ra mentioned that the stone in the sword belonged to him, it got me wondering why did the Thundercats steal it from him in the first place? Can it contain power so great that they couldn’t leave it in Mumm-Ra’s hands? But if so, why would they themselves use that power by embedding it in the sword?

Well it wasn’t spectacular but I enjoyed it. I must say it was pretty damn good and I look forward to more episodes. It was far better then Nicktoon’s Voltron Force in so many ways. Of course it wasn’t like the 80s toon but isn’t that usually the case? Very few series out there whether it be a cartoon or TV series end up being better or surpassing the original incarnation. However there were some nice homages to the original series and the comic book series. It was nice to hear Larry Kenney yell “Thundercats Hooo!” once again. I love the original series but I can accept and actually like some of the changes and new ideas in this series so with that being said I give it a 7 out of 10 cats claws. In time the score may increase.

around the 22 minute mark.

I liked it. Sure, it has it’s flaws but it was entertaining and a solid start.

My biggest concern going in was the changes to Tygra’s character but they were all for not. He was my favorite in the OS and shaping up to be my favorite again in this one.

I can see why Tygra gets frustrated with Lion-O because the latter doesn’t take his duties as a prince as serious as he should. If Lion-O’s behavoir of showing up to important meetings late and blowing off telling them about his vision by looking at girls is common then it’s no wonder Tygra and others think he’d be a better king. And the fact that Tygra appears to be a traditionalist and Lion-O is an idealist they are going to butt heads from time to time.

I picked up on that too. Clearly “Third Earth” is not our planet but some distant planet. It clearly orbits a gas giant and has at least 1 moon.

My impressions of the new show:

I watched the premiere last night, and I was just thrilled!

First and foremost, I have to say, any way you slice it, this new incarnation is definitely more sophisticated and has better writing than the original series. The new series certainly owes a TON to the original’s groundwork. Without the original foundation, this show would not have had the richness of ideas, concepts, characters, etc. to draw from.

That said, I believe the creators of the new series have done the world of the ThunderCats proud by really improving upon what was started back in the 80’s. The character relationships are more complex here. The animation, voice work, and score are all top notch. The writers have really worked out some of the loop-holes and awkwardness of the original series. I think the changes they have made not only make the ThunderCats feel more original (let’s face it, everyone was fleeing an exploding planet in the 80’s), but just make more sense.

In the present day, animated shows are not as basic as they used to be. The writing and design have really improved over the years. Making a “kids show” these days is not what it used to be. The quality of some of the entertainment out there is so much better, and the bar is just higher in the modern era. I think this series has met the bar and very well may raise the bar for animated series to come. Great news for all us ThunderCats fans who wanted to not only see our favorite characters brought to life again, but brought to life with real care and effort put into crafting a new show. Fantastic!!

Awesome job man. Even the quality is better then what I made. How’d you make this?

I just finished watching it and I have to say that it was amazing! I have to agree with giving the original the respect it deserves because like others have said there would be no new show without the old one being as awesome as it was. I have been waiting for this since the whispers of a new remake started back when I can remember in 2003. The show is new and fresh but still paying homage to the old one in many ways ie., Thundera being destroyed, Jaga’s sacrifice to save the others etc.
I like all of the characters so far especially Lion-O. He wasn’t my favorite in the old series, and since he was the star, it could get annoying at times, but his character is just great in this incarnation and I cannot wait unitl next week.

p.s. I hope Lynxo is in it again too.

I forgot to mention one thing that was perhaps the most interesting bit of information in the entire episode…

The Eye of Thundera is a stone that once belonged to Mumm-Ra?! That leaves me with all sorts of curiosity!

So stones of power now seem to mean stones that belong to Mumm-Ra, perhaps the source of his power, but at least one of those stones was taken to him and is embedded in the hilt of the sword of omens, protected against him. Wow.

The new ThunderCats series is quite a departure from the original series and builds a whole new mythology thus preventing it from being predictable. But still manages to give plenty of nods to the original while honoring the legacy of the beloved characters.

I really enjoyed it and laughed a few times including scenes with Snarf and that part when Lion-O tries to speak to Cheetara for the first time. I can’t wait to see more and how all the characters join forces as a team.

Don’t know if they will incorporate individual theme music for each character, but I hope they include a opening intro for the upcoming episodes.

Snarf isn’t annoying anymore, he is adorable.

What bugs me is that you could see some ancient history between the thundercats and lizards in that rock painting or drawing but there is no mention of the other mutants at all. I think this means that they won’t be a part of the big story. They will be there obviously but it will only be for a couple of episodes i think.

I certainly hope that’s not the case, they really must have a big part in this journey.

Pretty good plan Slythe, Grune and Mumm-ra schemed to overthrow Thundera, I liked that

I thought it was well done too, and even in just the premiere I think they found a rather nice balance portraying the strong brotherly rivalry where Tygra starts off properly a little grating as we start getting behind Lion-O as our lead while still over the course of the hour making Tygra quickly likeable with a good number of occasions where he also backs up his brother when he’s in bad situations.

I know that this new incarnation wasn’t going to win over everybody. That’s fine and actually to be expected. But I’d like to know what you meant by the story being “Fanboy.” I hear that term being tossed around like a dirty word a lot these days (although it already was going in that direction a decade ago). Usually it’s synonomous with “fan-service.” Both suggest that it’s somehow pandering to the fanbase.

Just my personal opinion, but I didn’t detect a whole lot of pandering here. They just simply built and improved on what the old show had already established or alluded to. I think we can all agree the old Thundercats was far from a perfect show. There was a lot that could have been improved upon there, and IMO they succeeded admirably in fixing a lot of the things that were minor to major annoyances. They at least kept me from fully enjoying the old show (Though that also could have been because I was several years older than the target audience when it first came on. Being 14 versus being 5 or 6 can make a world of difference.) But watching this new show, I could fully watch and enjoy it, seeing that it was very well done and intelligently-written. So in that respect, I really had no problems with it at all.
