New Mumm-Ra’s Pyramid (Spoilers)

As you can see the Weapon of Grune (Thundrainium club) is the same of the Monkian (statue).
The upper right Statue have a Tail (There are 2 Version: one with Tail and other Without Tail).
“The 1st one look like a Rat but the Other Look Like a Reptile”.
And in the 2nd Concept Art, are others characters working on computers.

That does look interesting, but I wonder why they went with a high-tech pyramid. Sort of removes the mysticism. I guess Mumm-Ra finally decided to catch up with the technology ;).

I like Mummsie’s new pyramid. It looks spidery and creepier than the OS one, and it’s in a believeable looking desert, too. I also see that Mumm-Ra doesn’t have a bubbling cauldron this time around, but maybe the brew’s hidden under the floor? :slight_smile:

Where’d you score the pics? I wonder what’s got that lizards eyes all bugged out, unless it’s a chameleon or something. Or wearing goggles, can’t really tell.

Perhaps Ra and his pyramid in Stargate the movie were inspired by Thundercats’ Mumm-Ra, and the high tech pyramid in the new Thundercats was inspired by Stargate the movie?

I was going to say, and I said this too in the thread for “Remlak Rising,” that Mumm-Ra’s new pyramid resembles a Goa’uld spaceship. Particularly the Ha’tak cruiser. Here’s a pic of one:

In any case, I like the new hi-tech look as opposed to the OS one, which looked like an Iron Maiden album cover. Seriously, check out the album cover artwork for Powerslave and tell me it doesn’t make you think of Mumm-Ra!

For that matter, I always thought Mumm-Ra looked an awful lot like Iron Maiden’s mascot, Eddie. Take a look. Here’s Mumm-Ra…

And here’s Eddie as he looked in the promotional artwork for Powerslave…

If that’s not an uncanny similarity, I don’t know what is.

I’ve always suspected in fact that when it came time to design the character they were directly inspired by Eddie and the resemblance was more or less deliberate, though they’ll probably never admit it. I can just imagine the character designers walking through a mall way back in 1983, the scene going something like this…

Designer 1: “Man, designing the villain for this Thundercats show is tougher than I thought!”
Designer 2: “I know. We’ve need to figure out something that’s going to make him stand out, and make him easily identifiable as a villain. He’s got to look weird and creepy, but unmistakably evil.”
Designer 1: “Well, we can’t make him a Skeleton. He-Man’s already got that locked-up. But I keep thinking we need something along those lines. Something undead…”
Designer 2: “Well, maybe it’ll come to us later. Hey, let’s stop at the Sam Goody over here.”
Designer 1: “Yeah. I wanted to see if I could get that new Prince album.”

(As they go through the store on his way to the P section, something catches Designer 2’s eye as he passes the I section. He stops, and picks up a copy of Iron Maiden’s Number of the Beast.)

Designer 2: (Holding up the record) “Hey! Check this out! What do you think of this?”
Designer 1: "Yes! THAT’S IT!!!

Love it. Lion-O looks like he’s thinking “Are you kidding me? I fight my brother all the time and he does a better job of hiding than you do.”

[li]Once again, I had a similar idea in our story for a team of Reptilian assassins. I imagined their physique to be something very similar to this. And also of course, being assassins, they could do things like cloak.[/li][li]This also reminds me of an idea I had for a mash-up story where Lion-O fights the Predator![/li][/ol]
I’m still glad to see the kinds of things I’ve always wanted to see on Thundercats up there on the screen. But it’s still sort of weird.

I think his pyramid being high tech makes him feel more menacing. I’m wondering if the pyramid can fly or at least travel somehow considering it will probably be very far for Mumm-Ra to travel to the book of omens and I doubt he would leave his fortress for that long. Or maybe he’ll just send Grune? Should be interesting to see.

In the picture, there’s the face with the red slitted eyes. We saw that in last Friday’s episode as well and I couldn’t figure out what it was. Do you suppose the mouth opens up to reveal the sarcophagus?

This is just a theory here…but with Mumm-Ra having the techno-pyramid and being the one that supplied the Lizards with technology…I wonder if he is the reason why Technology was outlawed in Thundera in the first place.

That doesn’t make sense to me. If your enemy has powerful technology, the last thing you would want to do is ban it because to do so would be suicide.

Unless they want to make a political statement with it and say they did so in a peace effort, that both the ThunderCats and Mumm-Ra “promised” to not produce weapons of mass destruction while Mumm-Ra did so secretly… Yeah… I hope they don’t use ThunderCats as a politcal platform like that.

To clarify I meant banned after he was already defeated. Not that they would try to outlaw it while they were still fighting him.

Why does Mumm-Ra even need technology, I wonder. He uses magic.

Well I assume Technology would be able to do things that Magic can’t and vise versa.

Maybe he doesn’t have a sarcophagus. Maybe his entire pyramid has the regenerative properties that his sarcophagus did in the OS.

Maybe Grune built Mumm-Ra this new pyramid.

Technology being outlawed may be why Claudus was reistant to Lion-O’s pursuit of it. Dismissing it as fantasy, he might have hoped Lion-O would outgrow his fascination with it because the alternative would have been admitting to Lion-O it exists when he forbade his song to pursue it. I don’t know. It’s really weird that they had a “mythology” about technology. It feels really backwards.

Maybe the Thundercats looked at Mumm-Ra and believe that technology is evil, hence why they wanted nothing to do with it. Sounds plausible to me.

Really like the look of the new pyramid, though.

I don’t think I like the idea of Mumm-Ra embracing tech.

I liked that the old Mumm-Ra scorned technology, yet used it reluctantly with disdain when told it might help.

The old bad of bandages is several thousands years old, and has built his reign of evil on magic and artefacts.

Now tech is probably something fairly new to the world… while seemingly efficient, it is probably unproven, and he should have scepticism towards it.

I mean… if you look at humans today… we have a hard time adjusting to things that are different from what we grew up with. Old people still refuse to use cell phones even though it is obviously vastly superior to corded phones. I’d like to see that in Mumm-Ra.
