Sorry if this has already been mention in the midst of the hundreds of replies on the threads covering the new series, but I just received info from Dan Norton about the new intro:
"You will get to see the intro next week but don’t get excited. Due to timing restrictions we we’re limited to only 10 seconds or less. We opted for a bit less to just get us to the episode. Let’s hope we have a great following for the show, that will determine if things change
Darn that’s short! Let’s make it so popular that they eventually decide on a longer one!
less than 10 seconds? what the heck can they do in less than 10 seconds? just show the title of the show? Geeze even Young Justice’s intro is 20 seconds.
Great question! Perhaps they’re simply promoting Cheetara next week with the speedy intro bit. sigh Pretty disappointed hearing that reply- again, hopefully they consider a longer intro as popularity grows, or at least as a bonus feature on the blu ray.
Can’t you people in the states who are able to exert some sort of consumer influence tell Cartoon Network you’ll boycott all things advertised for during the commercials until they stop letting commercials affect the series?
Once I’ve seen an intro a time or two I’m fed up with it and just want to get to the show so I don’t mind this. Works well in British show Midsomer Murders as well as US show Castle, and you know it’s a new Thundercats show, it’s back, I’m not complaining about the lack of theme. Saying that I enjoyed the original series intro (though hardly watched it then or now, once in a while was enough), but it’s not a big deal to me.
So that piece of theme we heard is about the actual length of the intro eh. Well that does suck. At least make it 30 seconds long, and cut down on friggin’ adverts…sheesh it seems like tv shows would keep getting axed length wise to make room for more ads. Tv shows used to be about 50 minutes long back in late 70s to early 80s, but now they barely touch 40 minute mark.

The dude has used the Thundercats intro as measuring stick all his life, and is now forced to this… I hope he fights for it.
As it turns out, Norton’s love and obsession for ThunderCats began when he was 11 years old and first saw the opening sequence of the original 80’s series. “To be honest, it’s the first show that from that time that when I watched the intro, I cried,” Norton told us. “Because it was so amazing. I was like ‘what is this? It’s incredible.’ I hadn’t seen Voltron or any of that other stuff yet. I guess I kind of grew up a little at that time. I lived in the country. I had this one little broken TV and the KTZZ channel, which was channel 22 at the time. So it was my first introduction to anything from overseas.”
I’m pretty sure there are many of us who got hooked on ThunderCats because of this amazing intro…
“I always felt, ever since I saw that intro, that it was the forge I kind of bent my creative stick on,” Norton revealed. “Everything that I ever did after, I always held it up to that intro. Like, ‘can I draw something as cool as that?’ So in some ways I’ve carried the show with me since I was 11”
There will be very very very bad fanrage come friday over this. I promise there will be. WB and cartoon network will really hear it. Then hopefully we can get at least a 30 second intro. It’s not that hard you know?
First they cut off the intro to that last pokemon movie CN aired and now this. Ugh.
Power Rangers Samurai on nick gets a full 1 minute intro, Voltron Force (ugh that theme) even gets a decent time for a intro. Makes no damn sense that THUNDERCATS after 23 years of waiting
can’t have that. There’s no excuse for it. It’s a insult to the cartoon. Voltron Force another remake of a old 80’s show gets time for this and thundercats doesn’t? And I like how he said things
could change? It’s like saying yeah we’ll give you a real intro if we make enough money FIRST. Not how it should be “Give a great intro and then you’ll make more money in ratings for sure.”
30 seconds would be good enough for me too. Cut out the “thunder, thunder, thunder” part of the Original and that cuts out a good 20 seconds, and then stop after you get done showing the Tcats (right before the part where Mumm-Ra shows up) and that leaves about 30 seconds for your intro. You hear the song, see the cast, and get drawn in.
Though to be perfectly honest, IF they put a good Intro on the DVDs as a special feature, I’d be happy with just that and could bare the loss on the broadcasted episodes. I just want to see it.
You know, I’ve been thinking about this. I was really, really excited for a new intro. A 10 second intro seems kind of lame.
But, while the intro was the most amazing thing animation wise in the old show, we now have a show which is on par with the original’s intro animation in the show itself. I guess I’ll sacrifice the intro to have a consistent, quality animated 20+ minute show every week.
As much as I wanted to see a new intro, I’m not really that upset with the 10 second intro and to be really honest, watching the premiere episode Friday night, I didn’t even notice there wasn’t a theme until about halfway through, I thought to myself “did I miss the intro?”
I don’t mind them diving right into the show.
Do we really watch the old TCats intro on every episode we watch now? I don’t. I skip/fast forward through it and get straight on to the episode I want to watch.
All hope is not lost, hopefully ThunderCats will be aired on another network say kids WB. What I don’t get is why did Dan Norton & co. settle for CN stingy rules and not make a deal with “Toonzai” instead?

btw Batman: The Brave and the Bold’s opening is 31 seconds and airs on cartoon network, maybe it’s not the channel that’s forcing them to have a short intro.
I’m pretty sure it’s the channel. This show will be a huge hit. It’ll be one of their most viewed shows. So what better show to air their horrible promos for the failure liveaction they want to see succeed than this one? =/
Far more people watch Cartoon Network, and Cartoon Network competes with Nick and Disney. It was a no brainer giving them ThunderCats.
