Hi all, first post here. I think that a singular forum called Thundercats classics should be used for General and one for the market place as well. I sincerely believe that as the line comes closer to launch, that more new members will find these forums, it’s how and why I did.
Also, there are bound to be items that the sub will offer that some folks just don’t want and will offer up to those who don’t want to deal with a sub. I just looked at the MOTUC site and the market place is very active for the classics line.
As far as Mattel and the upcoming line…well I totally missed the She-Ra stuff I wanted and never subbed. But I did buy a Hordak and She-Ra off of Flea-bay. The quality is nice, some nitpicks but over all nice. I believe the subs will contain 2 Tcats, 2 villains and 2 figures based on characters belonging to neither team, but associates of both factions.. I fully expect that if the subs do well we may see snowman next year with a snowmeow released as a quartly figure.
And I’ll throw out there my support with others who have said that we as a community need to present a unified front to Mattel in supporting the line, each other’s wants for the line and quality or design changes we want to see.
I am over the moon with the news of these figures! I will take all of the characters that Matty is willing to give from Lion-o down to the Unicorn Keepers lol. I truly hope we get characters that never got figures like the Lunataks, Mandora, Warrior Maidens, Turmagar, Snow Meow, Jaguara - the list goes on and on. Heck, I’ll take a Living Ooze playset!
Okay, I’m not THAT excited
But I just spent some quality time over at He-Man.org. There are some things that they have. Een doing that I think warrants some consideration.
The outreach to Mattycollector and some of those folks would be top of my list. The communication about the line, it’s contents and future would be invaluable imho.
There is also a guy over there who ran a vs. poll for all the figures based on forum members votes on who the better figure was. Some of the answers were pretty funny and would provide some useful entertainment.
Oh…and don’t forget to spread the word about this. Thundercats are back! Maybe one of those nice folks who are members at “the other org” would be kind enough to lure some folks over here and encourage more support.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Our admin Mark came up with a better idea to revamp the top forum categories to match our top line site categories. I think most of our members will dig it.
As for Marketplace, for now we are going to leave it in its current state. Next year when we start seeing more activity, we will reconsider the idea for a new Marketplace forum for the Mattel figures.
And as we move closer to the subscription TC.org will definitely be reaching out to Matty to keep a more open line of communication about their product line and development, along with them taking fan feedback. Though we can’t make any guarantees now, I am personally hoping one of their representatives will actively participate in the forum discussion.
I agree totally about the marketplace, too soon for sure. I just threw it in as part of the overall point I was making.
I too hope that one of the Marty people sign up here to help with communication with the fans.
This looks much better! ![]()
The face looks awesome, and I also agree that the clawshield must have a smooth finish with the little added brown at the bottom.

They also have a thread called WTFWTK (what the fans want to know), where they gather questions from the fans (1 question per fan per round). They then pick the best ones which they then ask mattycollector to answer. I think this gets the fans more accurate answers and also gives the fans the opportunity to interact with more with Mattel.
Wilycub’s version of prototype Lion-O is much better than the original.
I like the changes to the face of Lion-O, and the claw shield looks better slimed down. But I do like the added detail of the fur texture better.
I prefer the smooth look but the original LHN toy had a fur texture on it.
I personally would prefer a smooth cartoon look.
What do you guys think would look the best?
The modification is spot on. I don’t really care muchnaboutbtye claw shield but the face is Lion-O. I hope they decide to change it to resemble this modification
Love that it’s going to be in the MOTUC scale but I wish they make Lion-O a little taller than the rest of the characters since he is the Lord of the ThunderCats.
Yes, with the reflective surface required as it was used so often in the cartoon, I think the smooth finish is definitely the way to go.
Like MOTUC with the standard buck I doubt there will be much difference in size. The only ones that will have any real difference in height and body proportions will be those that require really unique sculpts that cannot use most of their MOTUC parts.
Great job on touching up. I agree the claw shield should be smooth and the claws smaller. It’d also be cool if the claw shield had a magnetic feature that allowed it to attach to Lion-O’s hip. In the show he’d magically attach it on his left hip (our right).
Only thing id change in your revision is making the shoulder straps less rounded. In the show his man-onesie was more like the prototype.
That’s a good point about the attaching of the claw to the leg.
A magnet would be nice but even a peg that clipped into the leg would be okay.
Frankly either would be better than Bandai’s method.
Also maybe the claw is so large because it is intended to slide over the standard hand instead off popping off and swapping the hands like Bandai’s.
I have a feeling the subscription will go on sale just after New York Toy Fair in February. What happens when you order your subscription is you are charged for the sub exclusive (in this case Mumm-Ra) and your card is preauthorised for the first figure + tax and shipping. However the pre-auth drops off a few days later and your only charged the sub exclusive fee (for MOTUC it’s $25, no idea if ThunderCats will be the same?)
Then your card will be charged each month as each figure ships to you. The Mumm-Ra exclusive should ship around the 3rd month of the sub (based on how the MOTUC exclusives have shipped over the years) and since you already paid for it when you bought the sub, you’ll only pay for shipping on that figure.
A few things to be aware of:
1/Try to order your subscription with a card that DOES NOT expire before the first figure ships (July) because it can be an hassle changing cards. Don’t worry if for whatever reason, you get a new card because you can update your order by contacting customer services. However it’s worth avoiding this hassle if possible.
2/If you want multiple subs to ship together, then make sure you order them in the same transaction! Ordering a sub and then going back later and ordering another means they won’t ship together in the first month (and if order details are not exactly the same, they won’t ever ship together!)
3/After the first figure has shipped in July, your subscription (s) will appear on the My Subscriptions page. From here you can update address and credit card yourself. However it isn’t possible until AFTER the first figure has shipped.
4/Ordering a sub not only means you get the Mumm-Ra sub exclusive, but you also get access to the ‘Early Access’ portal. This means you get first chance to order exclusives like the SDCC items before they go on general sale. Particularly useful if you or family/friends collect Monster High. Those sell out in a couple of minutes and NEVER make it to general sale.
5/If you don’t want to commit to the sub, Mattel usually sell each monthly figure in the ‘All Access’ sale around the 15th of the month. All Access figures are usually a few dollars dearer than the sub price though. You also won’t be able to buy the exclusive Mumm-Ra as the subscription exclusives are NEVER offered for sale again! Expect to pay an high price on eBay for him later (just look at the MOTUC Shadow Weaver for proof of that)
6/Digital River (the shipper for Mattel) do ship internationally so all fans should be able to buy the figures.
Hope this info helps! ![]()
I doubt Mumm-Ra The Everliving will be released in 2016 (with already getting him in his Decayed form) not to mention that he’d require a new sculpt and usually with these mini subs you only get one unique sculpt, which we already have with Mummy Mumm-Ra exclusive. So I’d expect reused parts for the other 4 figures.
They also won’t burn through all the main cast at once, which is fine because otherwise we won’t get characters such as Willa, Mandora and the Lunatacs who never been made before.
Something like this would make sense:
Sep: Cheetara
Oct: Grune The Destroyer
Nov: Hachiman
Dec: Alluro
We’d very likely also get a San Diego Comic Con exclusive for ThunderCats next year too. Wilykat and Wilykit 2-pack would make sense.
If the 6 figure sub sells well enough, they will like offer a 12 figure sub for 2017!
So supporting the subscription is very important. If these were retail figures you’d get 2 a year, for 2 years and then the line would get cancelled. Just look at the status of the Ninja Turtles Classics line ![]()
Out of interest how much is the shipping cost to the UK for motu figures currently? I can’t find anything on the Matty collector website.
Thanks
Personally I don’t mind a furry claw shield. I’ve always thought it looked like it was supposed to be made of fur, and tbh unless you’re going to chrome the glove, it doesn’t matter if it’s smooth or not, it still won’t be reflective (and please don’t chrome the glove).
As much as I would prefer a smooth glove I must agree that I don’t like the idea of it being chromed either. I am also not super keen on the sword being chrome also.
These are the prices for 2016 (I got them by adding the new Masters of the Universe Collector’s Choice sub to my basket) They are slightly higher than current 2015 shipping prices.
For one figure:
International Post: $15.39 (2-4 weeks delivery)
DHL: $37.49 (2-3 days delivery)
For two figures: (including this as the Mumm-Ra exclusive will ship together with a monthly figure)
International Post: $24.39 (2-4 weeks delivery)
DHL: $44.29 (2-3 days)

They ship outside the USA and if you don’t want to subscribe, they usually offer them separately around the 15th of each month. Not subscribing though, means you won’t be able to buy the Mumm-Ra exclusive as it’s only shipped to sub holders.
I might buy extra subs and put up pre-orders for them in the marketplace here if it helps UK collectors who are unsure of buying direct through MattyCollector for whatever reason… depends on how much interest there is I guess.
Looking forward to seeing how these turn out. Since the Thundercats would probably be a small line, I’d consider collecting them. Definitely not subbing though.
