I wouldn’t mind some new Silverhawks figures, but I don’t think they should be under the ThunderCats label at all. And AFAIK Mattel doesn’t have the rights to the reboot designs, so the connection in the reboot is irrelevant.
As for how many characters I could actually see myself wanting? Looking through the character list…about 40.
A lot of people jumped on board with MOTU well after the classics line started in 2008. Classics Jump started the franchise, there’s no arguing that. New Adventures fizzled and the 200x cartoon and toyline was a failure by all accounts and the toys were sold at retail. The same could happen with Thundercats. Not sure why people have this notion that it’s just going to fail and that’s that? I go on He-Man.org and see a lot of people very enthusiastic about this line. Once Mumm-Ra was shown the enthusiasm grew even more. I feel we are going to see a robust toyline when this is all said and done. I also hope to see Silverhawks and even TigerSharks, though I wasn’t too much of a fan of the Sharks. I just don’t think they need to encompass all of them into one sub.
I complete agree with you…all across this site there is so much negative stuff…I dont get it…so far what weve seen…what weve heard…looks and sounds great and promising…yet the negative comments are non stop…a lot of people that post on this website really are assuming its gonna fail quickly…we have all the conditions for this to be a successful line…4H…Mattels record with MOTU, which despite all critics went on to produce a long line of toys. so far it looks like great TC figures to come. everything else about sculpts and subs and secondary characters that arent gonna sell is pure speculation…NO ONE KNOW WHATS GONNA HAPPEN…unless you can predict the future we all have to wait and see how it actually goes once its out…
I must agree on all the negativity. I understand that there are people that don’t find this line to their taste and every person has a right to feel that way. I on the other hand is very happy about the line. I don’t care that they use MOTUC. I don’t look at the TC line and see MOTU. I see TC. Maybe I am just one of those persons that doesn’t care too much about the faults. All toy lines have their faults.
I am eager for this line. I am going to enjoy this. I love everything I have seen so far. This may be the last time we get a line like this. I don’t talk about the Mezco line. I love that line as well but they take a long time producing characters.
The negativity is from the same, incessant and loud people…unfortunately they are on every site. I love when people talk as though they know why Mattel does things or what’s going to happen. Just ignore them and enjoy the amazing toys we’re finally getting for the Thundercats!
Exactly, the Thundercats were the stars of the show. Quite frankly we were lucky LJN made some of the secondary characters they did. That’s is why I was saying there is only really 30-40 characters worth making.
The cartoon was great but 200X line failed because Mattel messed up the figures over packing the He-Man and Skeletor variants in each case instead of the other heroes and villains. Throughout the line they produced around 14 variants of He-Man and Skeletor each.
I agree on the show, I liked it a lot but the show as with the toys did not connect with the target audience, kids. The collectors and nostalgia fans can only carry something like that so far. Most toylines sold at retail need to appeal to collectors and children alike. Its seems common for people to blame the variants of He-man and Skeletor on the downfall of the line but it’s not unusual to have variants of the main characters. Look at an enduring line like TMNT they have successfully marketed to kids and adult fans since the 80’s. Playmates to this day pumps out tons of variants on the main turtles and it doesn’t kill those lines. Now to most collectors the variants are horrid but kids buy them up like candy.
To be fair, Playmates might pump out variations of the Turtles, but they don’t do it at the detriment of the other characters. Other characters still fill the shelves alongside the Turtles.
As balgus82 said yes TMNT might pump out multiple variants of Turtles but they still have a big selection of other villains and heroes on the shelves. When the MOTU200X toys were available it was really hard finding anyone outside the first series of figures. Even 2-3 years after the line finished some shops still had loads of Orko, Spin Blade Skeletor and Smash Blade He-Man figures. I think the biggest difference is though that a lot of the TMNT variants appeared in the shows or were still fun toys. Neither of these apply to a lot of the variants from MOTU200X.
I am really glad LJN didn’t go that route with Thundercats. Other wise we might have had extreme sports Lion-O, stealth tech Tygra, Samurai Panthro, Training Gear Cheetara etc LOL.
…I would buy Samurai Panthro.
LOL yeah after I typed this I started to think Stealth Tech Tygra would be pretty cool as well. If only I could get a job with a toy company. :rolleyes::biggrin

When you look at his character list it is a perfect example of what I have been saying about the line.
The line really only has two, maybe three being generous, years of characters actually worth making.
Hardcore fanboys aside, Capt. Bragg, Brobo, Nemex, Leah, Unicorn Keepers, Dr Dometone! Really? Forget this stupid ‘‘I’m a true fan and will buy everything and support the line no matter what…’’ nonsense. Would anyone really want action figures of these characters? Over 20 of them appeared in one or maybe two episodes at most.
More to the point 20+ of these characters will need 100% new sculpts as they can’t re-use parts from the existing MOTU characters.

I have faith of this line and I hope that they could make at least the 90% of my wishlist of characters and like I said before if Matty has produced over 170 + MOTUC figures they can do 70 Thundercats toyline the characters are there also I let you know that MOTUC have figures of one episode character so there’s no excuse.

Yes Mattel produced around 170 MOTUC figures. But…
MOTUC consisted of figures from 4x different cartoons. MOTU, POP, NA and 200X.
Over 110 of those characters all had toys before in the original toylines.
30 ish were concepts or based on unproduced prototypes.
The other were all based on animation or comic characters or repaints of other figures.
Vast majority all share the same bodies.
Vast majority of the characters were all warriors.

They could always try a different approach with putting out the core/popular characters. Possibly get all the must haves out within the next 2-3 years then do fan’s choice or some kind of voting model to continue the line. I’m also in the same boat of buying whatever characters they produce but realistically most collectors won’t want the obscure figures.
