New 6" Classic toy line from Mattel!

I would never buy more than 1 subscription. Too expensive. The only ones I can see buying 2 or more are the very rich and those that feel the need to have 1 set kept MIB and one set to take out and play with.

I guess “very rich” is relative. For me, 2 subs (one MIB and one out) is very doable. That’s a dinner at a restaurant with my wife. Guess, I can call myself “very rich” now since I also collect Mezco One:12 too.

Just looks a bit cheap to me, and those ankle joints are horrid. It looks like the He-Man equivalent of the Bandai classics.

Actually the more I study that figure the more I agree with you. The proportions, sculpt etc it isn’t very good.

In my humble opinion. The Thundercats Matty Collector Line needs to be a full year figures (monthly) toyline at least from 2017 to 2021 if we can have the figures that we want. I know that MOTU have a bigger fan base but common if Matty has produced over 170 + MOTUC figures Matty can do at least 75 Thundercats figures line with some vehicles and at least 2 or 3 playsets too.

I really can’t think of 75 characters they could make that anyone would really want as an action figure.

me neither, if they cap this out at 35-40 they’d likely managed to get everyone i could think of without having to resort to lookin at a list. and in that case i’d much rather they’d flirt some with bringing in some silverhawks or tigershark characters rather then some obscure one-off thundercats specific ones that might have featured in some comic book or a single episode.

Yep 30-40…50 being really generous. But you never know some fans might riot if they don’t get so Wollos LOL.

I went back and looked at the characters list thread…easily for me…100 desirable characters…theres 20 just in the main characters (thundercats and mutants , including 2 forms of mummra and jaga)…conservatively getting 75 ish would barely cover several of full sets such as Lunatacs, Berserkers…dont wanna re-write a character list if you read the characters thread youll definitely find 100 plus characters…

I could see them getting to 100, and I would easily buy them all. Taking JUST Thunderians into consideration, this is a list I came up with of figures that could be done, and then on top of this there are plenty other ‘good’ characters, not to mention the villains and other ancillary characters:

if we see double or at best triple of what ljn put out in the 80’s we should be very thankful, as it’s likely they would struggle to even get that to break even in the end. they would be alot more likely to find longevity as a whole if they brought in silverhawks or tigersharks then making obscure one-off characters that put together had less then 30 seconds total screentime in the cartoon.

What a lot of people forget to mention when they point out how many characters were in MOTUC is the fact that 90% of them all re-used a lot of the same parts. Getting the 30 figures LJN produced and maybe 10 or so others like the Lunatacks and Claudus is the best that can be hoped for.

the real problem is that there aren’t that many characters that are likely to be able to ‘sell’ subs outside of those 20 (lunattaks and berserkers not included) and considering we are getting lion-o and panthro this year. thundercats (unlike motu) suffers from the fact that while the show might have featured a ton of different characters it didn’t really establish all that many of them.

LJN put at least 40 characters..no variants, so if we double that we would already be at 80…I suppose its all speculation until the line actually happens…but for sure there are very interesting characters…at least to me…that maybe were one timers…its subjective and all about perspective…like ive stated in the past, im the kind of TC fan that wants everything this line will produce…i want even the smallest one time appearance…insignificant character…(and no im not talking bout ladybug on cheetara or tree branch, thats ridiculous, im talking bout one time significant characters like demolisher and wiz ra)my only point right now is that there are 100 or so characters that can be produced…hopefully they do

proper characters, ljn had a metric shit ton of variants or repaints. mattel could do that with thundercats again now if they wanted, problem is it was alot easier to do that in the 80’s then it is now if you are trying to charge 25$ per figure.

agreed 100% there’s three other properties that i’d much rather see get the collectors treatment before i’d wan’t obscure one-offs. man give me 4hm sculpted silverhawks,bravestarr or tigersharks figures any day over that.

LJN didn’t really have any variants or repaints of figures.

First of all none of those really count as actual character variants. I as referring in terms of how He-Man had Battle armour, thunderpunch, flying fist and laser light etc. All of those are just variations of the same toy.
Unless you think Mattel are likely to replicate a Lion-O with orange hair or pack one with a Snarf and have a seperate one etc.
Secondly Young and Old Tygra aren’t real variants, they are just known as that to distinguish between the two. The Old version is a revised sculpt as LJN were unhappy with the first sculpt. The character is still trying to look the same as the TV show and wears the same outfit.
I don’t think Mattel would knowingly release a figure with a bad head sculpt that doesn’t look right with the intention to re-relaese a better version or package a new head/accessory with another figure…oh wait they did LOL.

Most of those arent “variants”…the packaging on lion didnt read “RED HAIR LION-O”…adding a battery does not constitute as a variant…MOTUs did say “power punch Heman” and it would come with a new vest or new accessory…if they had sold a lion on with a different weapon or cape perhaps…but it was pretty much the same…

according to who’s definition? i get what you are trying to say, but to claim those examples aren’t variations of the same character aswell is incorrect. i mean the whole selling point with the old ljn toys was ‘action features’ (the thing you used to describe variants for the motu line)

not to sure what we are even arguing over at this point, as looking at our thought processes we seem to be pretty much on the same page regarding our standpoint for what is likely to happen with the line in the end.

I just meant aside from a slight change of hair colour etc the action feature was not changed. Like the Lion-O with the orange hair is still just still the same toy as the regular Lion-O. Unlike some of the original He-Man variants. Like Laser Light was a 100% new sculpt with a completely different action feature.

I agree 100%…all obscure characters for me…and I also dont see why in world they would mix in silverhawks much less tiger sharks with TC. I like Silverhawks and they would be neat to see done by 4H, but right now TC is their baby and it took so long to get going to dirty it up with another franchise…

I actually wouldn’t mind if they delved into the 2011 Thundercats way down the line if need be, however the connection on screen with Silverhawks and Tigersharks was essentially just a homage to old fans. I definitely enjoy the other two franchises, I just don’t want to pay for them as part of this sub.

because the 2011 series already established the connection, and warner bros owns all three properties so it would be very easy negotiating to be done on mattel’s part. they’d also much likely sell alot better then if they started doing unique sculpts for all manners of obscure characters from thundercats. might aswell keep it realistic here, mattel will need cross pollination to happen from collectors in order to make this line work over multiple years.

would be alot easier to do that by drawing on fans from multiple toy/cartoon universes then trying to entice the same populace by making stuff that only a small percentage would be intrested in.

Im ok with both other properties, but its too premature to be thinking about what other franchises need to be added to keep TC alive…i doubt MATTEL wants to divert attention anywhere but to the new line they are launching…maybe a few years down the line…but i would assume TC fans want as much of the TC universe out before asking for a lifeline from SH or TS…
