I like the 2011 transformation to be honest. It actually looks more powerful and with more magic involved and seeping out of his body. The old 1985 transformation seems alot less impressive to me with basically wind just knocking off his bandages.
It had more atmosphere to it, and just the way the visuals were directed it and the camera angles were arranged, it just made it seem like a big moment.
With the 2011 version, I wish they had done a zoom in on the Dual Snake emblem on his chest. That was always a striking visual to me, and it was the indicator that the Transformation was complete. And in the sol show, if he did it in the Pyramid, we’d get the close ups on the four statues which was again, a very striking visual.
And of course I have to make mention of the music in the old one too which was just perfect.
Like the intro to the show, there are certain elements of the old show that the new one just isn’t going to quite match, and that’s fine. What they did for both the “Thundercats Ho!” call and Mumm-Ra’s Transformation were cool, but don’t have the same umph to it that the original did.
The 85 version was done with waaaay more flair and like others have already said is more creepy. The new version just lacks a certain something. The animators need to realize this and up the ante.
There was also a minor difference it what he says… i the OS he says “Transform this decayed form to Mumm-ra…” in the new series he says “Transform this decayed form into Mumm-ra…”
Yeah that kinda annoyed me even in the premiere. But shrugs I can get used to that.
Anyway I liked the OS transformation better. In the new one, you didn’t really see him actually grow. You saw him small, and then you saw smoke, and then you saw him big. The OS transformation had more like a build up (with the wind and all) when he was saying the chant too. Like he was drawing in power. The new he just kinda stood there while he was saying it.
I do hope his transformation does get abit better.. But it should of been jawdropping for the first time in this series, again a time thing?!?!?.. I was a little disappointed with that fact
And I don’t know about anyone else…But I kinda wanted to see his wings pop out of his back.
If it was me, I would’ve had him transform without the wings, then crouch down, where the wings spurt out of his back violently and he jumps out of his crouch into the air.
I must also say that i think Mumm-Ra is one of my favorite villians ever. Skeletor is cool aswell but the old evil dude who’s so scary in his ways and in his looking + can transform.. Wow!
I am surprised he turned into a crow at the end to fly away. You think it would have made more sense, design wise, for him to turn into a bat since he already had bat wings…
