Just what I was thinking. Like a visual sign of their connection to Mumm-Ra. Leo’s eye markings remind me a tiny bit of the Eye of Horus.
My personal hope is that Mon*Star is still alive in the current Thundercats timeline but is locked up on the Penal Planet like he was in the orginal Silverhawks.
Mon*Star could escape and Mandora could be aligned with the Silverhawks to bring him back in.
They’re just cameos. I doubt they’re even going to get any sort of focus in the story. It’s just a nod and a wink to all the old fans who enjoyed those shows.
I had no idea who the Silverhawks or TigerSharks were and I watched the original ThunderCats as it aired in the 80s. I only know who they are now because I read this forum. Did these shows ever get re-aired in any form? Their appearance is completely meaningless to me, just another group of animal people, and they will likely be so to all the young fans as well.

I don’t see how including Silverhawks and Tigersharks could NOT be world building. Like I said earlier, I had always thought all three shows could conceivably have been set in the same universe anyway. Why not take that ball and run with it? At first blush, yes, it would seem like fan service. But I trust that the showrunners know what they’re doing. They haven’t disappointed me so far.

Yes, it was a bald Afro-American guy with golden armor. I always thought they could have done the same with Tygra had they wanted to.
Silverhawks also had a guy named “Flashback” that could time travel at will with no restrictions and fix any problem they encounter. His name should have been Mr. Mulligan.
Of course that power made him like the worst character ever as that basically meant that the Hawks could never ever possibly lose as they get enternal do-overs.

Not that I am disrespecting your opinion but what about the original series was so wholly original and world building anyway? It was a cross between Battlestar Galactica and He-Man. True that it had some great characters that made the show but it was never as wholly original and ground breaking as some on this board like to pretend it was. Stories take time to flesh out. So you don’t have all the answers you want by episode six. So what?
No depth? No soul? I disagree. A rehash of other shows? So was the original. You’d remember that if nostalgia wasn’t blinding you. Again no disrespect intended.
Yes the old show eventually built a rich world but it took time. By episode six they had barely established the main chars, built the Cat’s Lair, and met the Berbils.

The 80’s fanatics say i’m a douche cause i hate on the 80’s fans. THe thing is though that the 80’s people just bash this new one for no reason, says stuff how it’s bad when the original was “as bad” or WORSE.
Just as you said, blinded by nostalgia. If not that, they might just be people who thinks “all new things are remakes and new series that sucks”.
Well that is unfortunate. No fan should ever hate on another fan’s preferences. It’s like arguing over which captain on Star Trek was best. An exercise in futility and an extremely nerdy thing to do.
Please don’t let it weaken your enthusiasm for the show. Personally I am a fan of both shows and the main difference for me is I accept that they are not the same shows and only based on the same chars. I just try to appreciate each one for what it is. And both the old and new ones are better than most of their peers for sure!
Whilst I won’t take it to those extremes of not watching, I will go into viewing the new episode with apprehension, as I’m not convinced adding characters from two other series (especially this early on, when the main characters are still being developed) is such a good idea 
However I will give it the benefit of the doubt and make my mind up after watching the whole episode first. They might just be making a one off cameo afterall. I’ve actually never seen either show, so my thoughts are not based on disliking Silver Hawks or Tiger Sharks, but going off in all directions like some over excited fanfic.
I also hope those we see are not Jackalmen or Vulturemen, as I’m just not sold on their designs from first impressions. But again, I will make my mind up after seeing them in action
This. I hate when OS fans compare the two shows and proclaim any difference between the two to be a negative point for the new series. It just makes me mad and a little bit sad. I like the old Thundercats for the nostalgia it sparks in me, and for being silly and camp and entertaining and just… safe, somehow, and I like the new Thundercats for what it is at the moment. It’s a good adventure cartoon.
It has already been confirmed to be merely a cameo. It bridges the mythos and that’s about it. Most viewers probably won’t even recognize these characters anyway. It’s put there for the hardcore fans like us to debate about ;).
my first thought on the birds was “vultureman!” but after watching a few times they look more like eagles.
I know all that, but that was still a good read.
I don’t blame people. I say the same about Pokémon when young kids or other say the new one is better i just… UH, but i grew up with the good old Pokémon and i have the first 300 eps on tape.
But i still gave the new one a chance and i still watch it as the Pokémone anime is the same all over. The thing is i like the old crew more, the old story and the ORIGINAL POKÉMON!
In the OS, we knew from the first episode what a Thundercat was, and by their actions, why we should care about them as people and holocaust survivors. TS & SH thrown into this mythology is just fan service.
In the first OS episodes, we had Jaga steer the ship and die to great music, very poignant. That is the quality that is missing in this series. We are missing the quiet moments, such as when Jaga returns to tell Lion-o not to hunt just for fun, but for food, and again, accompanied by great music.
Everything is derivative, but the new series seems particularly heavy on stuff done before (everything but the kitchen sink school of writing), so much so that it is predictable.
Can we have Thunderan gods? Can we have more than one woman in the show? If Jupiter replaces the sun to illuminate the world, why do we even have darkness? And so on…

So if I understand correctly you are fond of the OS moralistic TCats plots above the newer more action/detail orientated plots? I understand where you are coming from. One thing that I enjoyed about the OS TCs is that they were essentially one big family. They had to be. They were the survivors of a dead world trying to make it on a strange new one. But that is not the plotline we have going here at all.
This one hinges on an ancient menace that has returned and usurped the Thundarian throne. Evil Mumm-Ra killed King Claudus right in front of young Lion-O. He then proceeded to destroy the kingdom with missle tech that they were unfamiliar with. Or are they? Maybe they were actually the ones who developed it and then for an unknown reason forbid the use of it. At this point there are a few theories. It has yet to be revealed.
This new series more hinges on it’s backstory and what ultimately led to the events you saw in the pilot. Like it or not it is a much more detailed story than the OS. Like I said earlier the circumstances are completely different this time. Lion-O saw his father murdered and his kingdom devastated by Mumm-Ra in the premiere. This is as much about reckoning as it is survival. I also believe that the TCats will become more familial with each other as they battle together and earn each other’s respect.
Maybe a lot of the moralistic aspects of the old TCats aren’t present but there are still profound themes being presented here. I think that the “Song of the Petalars” episode is the best example of this thus far. Still it’s apples and oranges friend.
