So if I understand correctly you are fond of the OS moralistic TCats plots above the newer more action/detail orientated plots? I understand where you are coming from. One thing that I enjoyed about the OS TCs is that they were essentially one big family. They had to be. They were the survivors of a dead world trying to make it on a strange new one. But that is not the plotline we have going here at all.

This one hinges on an ancient menace that has returned and usurped the Thundarian throne. Evil Mumm-Ra killed King Claudus right in front of young Lion-O. He then proceeded to destroy the kingdom with missle tech that they were unfamiliar with. Or are they? Maybe they were actually the ones who developed it and then for an unknown reason forbid the use of it. At this point there are a few theories. It has yet to be revealed.

This new series more hinges on it’s backstory and what ultimately led to the events you saw in the pilot. Like it or not it is a much more detailed story than the OS. Like I said earlier the circumstances are completely different this time. Lion-O saw his father murdered and his kingdom devastated by Mumm-Ra in the premiere. This is as much about reckoning as it is survival. I also believe that the TCats will become more familial with each other as they battle together and earn each other’s respect.

Maybe a lot of the moralistic aspects of the old TCats aren’t present but there are still profound themes being presented here. I think that the “Song of the Petalars” episode is the best example of this thus far. Still it’s apples and oranges friend.

Definitely apples and oranges. It is not the moral element but the simple fact that if you compare the first six episodes of the OS to the NS, you will find more dialogue in the former. There is plenty of action in the new series, perhaps too much. As for detail, I am still waiting for the answer to the question I posed: what is a Thundercat?

I would have loved more back story in the OS. In the new series we are getting it flashback style, but the pacing is off. Give me the characters first, grow them, then lead me to their back stories.

In the first OS episodes, we had Jaga steer the ship and die to great music, very poignant. That is the quality that is missing in this series. We are missing the quiet moments, such as when Jaga returns to tell Lion-o not to hunt just for fun, but for food, and again, accompanied by great music.

Agree about the music but this series has it’s moments too. Jaga still sacrifices himself merely in a different way.

Everything is derivative, but the new series seems particularly heavy on stuff done before (everything but the kitchen sink school of writing), so much so that it is predictable.
TOS was ABSOLUTELY guilty of this. If you don’t think so then you need to bust out your season two dvds.

It is also like the difference between old monster movies and new ones. The old ones had dialogue because the monster only appeared briefly. Thus there was a need for a deeper story. Today, with CGI, story goes out the window with monster on demand.

New monster movies are.. Meh. They just run around and get killed for like.. No reason and the older ones at least took time and built up that first apperarnce of the monster/killer.

I think the new series has a much different direction than the original. I think we all could have expected that the entire first season is more or less a “meet and greet” and also a “flashback” explanation story line. I’m sure when we get to the second season we may get some more complex storylines. I love the direction it has gone so far, and the animation is top noch for right now I think.

I don’t mind the fan service of Silverhawks and Tigersharks, even though I never watched either show. It’s just a cameo and they’re probably filling them in a spot that would’ve had generic Third Earth NPCs otherwise. I don’t see the harm in something like that. It doesn’t damage the story, and it makes some people smile. (At least in my opinion.)

I agree with you, Nine Tiger, in that I’d also like to see some more strong female characters. I’m hoping we will as the series goes on. Perhaps Pumyra will get a decent role in this one, where she was overlooked in the first for the most part. I’d love for them to develop the healer aspect of her character that was alluded to for her in the OS.

If they bring in the Lunatacs, Luna and Chilla could also be strong female villain characters, especially the former, being in a leadership role.

Also, Cheetara isn’t the only female among them. Don’t forget WilyKit.

I watched a bit of an episode of TigerSharks on YouTube last night. Nothing about it looked familiar to me but I could sing along a little with the theme song, so I’m thinking I saw it as a kid enough to know the song but the actual cartoon itself didn’t leave that bif of an impression on me. At least I now know that Mako is a good guy.

I remember having Tigersharks action figures, you turned one of their arms around to flip the head from it’s human form to it’s animal form. I hope we see all the other species from that property and not just Mako.

This show, being that it’s a reboot, is basically a brand new show set in a brand new universe. Putting in Silverhawks and Tigersharks characters is really no different than bringing in new stuff like the Petalars, so there’s no reason for some of you to whine and complain about them showing up. Does every character in the new series have to be a straight up redo of only stuff that was in the OS?

Even as a kid I always felt like all three series took place in the same universe. I was always expecting to see Mandora show up on Silverhawks but it never happened. Not sure why.

I never watched Tigersharks as a kid, but I loved the Silverhawks! I think it would be pretty amazing to see Mon Star and Mumm-ra in a face off!!:liono

I always felt like they were in the same universe, but different time periods. The Silverhawks were on Earth at the very beginning of the first episode. So It would all depend on if Third Earth is our Earth at a different Time period or not.
