More Information on the New Series!

ThunderCats.ws was present today at the NYC Toy Fair Bandai Booth. At the presentation we were show a short video with updated Animation and Character information. Beware there are major spoilers if you choose to continue and learn some secrets of the upcoming ThunderCats Animation series on Cartoon Network.

Inside the Bandai Booth at NYC Toy Fair 2011 ThunderCats.ws were treated to a short video previewing updated information on the ThunderCats animation series. In the video new characters were shown as well as updated designs on old favorites.

In the animated series concept art was shown for many updated ThunderCat team members. Included were Cheetara, Tygra, Lion O and Panthro. The video then went on to explain how weapons of the ThunderCats have hidden features that go with each character.

Panthro - His Thunder-Chucks (Fanboy name for weapon not official) have a hidden power for each side. Red has the power of a flame thrower and blue has the power of ice. (shown in concept art)

Cheetara - Her staff splits apart and can be used two handed. (Shown in concept art)

Trgra Whip - His whip was shown but it was unclear to me how it interacts with the concept are of a blaster (hand laser) he now has.

Lion O - His claw will now grow around him as he grows in skill, will also turn into Armor.

Jackal Man in animation style and looks more feral and mean.

Vulture Man - was shown having wings and one would think he can fly.

Mumm Ra was shown in many forms including his tomb. This is unofficial but it looks like he can turn into more then just one form. He was shown with a classic look as well as with wings. (see action figure images for updated look.)

New characters that were shown were villains.

Duelist - Don’t call me on the name it went by so fast… But his personality is that of a sword fighter who challenges skilled people for their sword. One would speculate he will go after the Sword of Omens and Fight Lion-O for it. He was shown with a collection of swords he won in battle.

There was also a villain shown who has a spike cannon ball head. He has the ability to remove his head and throw it at you as a weapon.

Mumm Ra’s Pyramid was also shown along with Berbil village and concepts of other enviroments in the cartoon.

Concept art of the animated ThunderTank and it was close to the toy images and box art.

So happy to hear Vultureman is in the new series (I can live with him having wings) but what about Monkian? I hope he hasn’t been left out to add a new villian in! :frowning:

That new character who takes swords sounds amazing though! I’m sure Monkian is going to appear! They brought back all the main villains around him, he’s got to be there!

the more i find out, the more i cant wait for the series, just really hope we get it here in the UK, tho cant see it not being shown on anything other than Satelite.

The Duelist absolutely sounds like a great concept, and one that you wonder why this idea didn’t pop up in the original RBTC show?

Vultureman having wings is a bit of a cop out to me. I mean that’s just too obvious and easy a road for these guys to go down. Him not having wings and instead developing a flying machine made him much more dynamic in the original show.

Still, I’m glad he’s in though and I hope he has his unique speech pattern.

Probably the biggest glaring absence at this point is Jaga. No word or mention of him anywhere. Even Grune (who appears to possibly be a Mumm-Ra henchman given that they share the same symbol on their chest in the toys???) and the kittens have been shown. The longer it goes w/o confirmation of him being in, you’ve got to believe the greater the likelyhood that, at least initially, he’s not going to be in the show.

Wow, those toys look awesome :thumbsup:. Can’t say the same for new Lion-O’s figure, though classic is definitely a must buy. Mumm-Ra hasn’t aged a bit in 20 or so years :p. I like that he has many more forms, and I hope he has more; he is a devil in a rotting corpse.

O please just show us the video. I’m sure the new series will have a different intro, in that case why not redo the old intro with new character designs and release it as a teaser video for new series? :smiley:

Holy Jaga! Tower of Omens has a working catapult (from the looks of it)!! Nice homage to the original series in that Cat’s Lair bike thing…

Looks like the Sword of Omens now has 3 forms:
Sword
Dagger
Letter Opener??? Note that dagger sword’s hilt appears to be able to swing up and around the Eye of ThunDera.

Lion-O and Tygra are going to be brothers? That’s intriguing since Tygra doesn’t look anything like a liger. I’m guessing he’s adopted, so I hope they come up with a good backstory for that. And maybe later they can introduce Bengali as the long-lost brother Tygra didn’t know he had. Heh-heh, to kind of add a little soap opera to the mix. :slight_smile:

The Claw Shield will grow around Lion-O as he grows in skill, and will also become armor. Hmm, it sounds like they took that last idea from the “Witchblade” comics. :slight_smile:

Cheetara can now break apart her power staff to be used as two hand-held pieces. Interesting, so say the least! They didn’t mention her wrist and ankle discs? They’re too big to be fashion accessories, so I still think they’ll be alternate weapons she can use when she doesn’t have her staff with her. :slight_smile:

@Grune: It’s plausible that Grune, Jaga, and the ThunderKittens could still be incorporated into the new series, only at a later date. :slight_smile:

The Duelist sounds like a reworking of Hachiman. Still, the concept sounds promising, if a bit incomplete. The baddie with the removable spiked head sounds a little freaky! :slight_smile:

Hey, I can live with Vultureman having wings; it means he can take to the air anytime he wants. It sure beats that clunky Flying Machine! :slight_smile:

They’ll still have the Berbils? Okay, I have no problem with that. :slight_smile:

Didn’t Panthro’s nunchucks already have that fire/ice power in the RBTC series? I seem to remember they did. :confused:

It’s great that Jackalman will be leaner and meaner than ever. :thumbsup:

Mumm-Ra was able to shapeshift in the RBTC series: The giant tunneling worm, Silky; the Netherwitch; the diamond fly; Pumm-Ra; King Arthur. Those were all Mummsie in disguise. Maybe the writers for the new show have come up with some new forms he can take. :slight_smile:

Tygra and Bengali being brothers, and Vulturemen flying isn’t new - at least not to the old marvel comics series :wink:

Panthro’s weapon could shoot stuff in the old series, just not sure it was always fire or ice.

Don’t forget the times he changed into a swarm of locust, spirit of Jaga, a berbil, a Snarf (Osbert?), Dr. Dometome, Lion-O, and Gregory Gregian (tricked Lion-O and Tygra into fighting each other).

I never understood the Tygra calling Ben-Gali “brother” in the original. My personal opinion was that they were “brothers” in the sense they are from the Tiger clan. Kinda like some people will refer to anyone with the same ethnic background to be family.

Logan loves them.. His face lit up and it reminded me off what i felt like as a child :smiley:

The original plan was that they were indeed blood brothers. I believe the storyboards confirming this was posted on here a couple years ago.

That’s my second biggest worry about this toyline. The first is “how in the world am I going to afford all these toys”!

I also collect Transformers, between that and the TCats, my bank acct and shelf space are both groaning.

Same here :(. Actually I am currently holding out on buying Transformers, I just got the new Hot Toys 1/6 Terminator 1 figure, which has drained me of some money. Plus I need to save for another Hot Toys figure. But I’d definitely be getting the classic Lion-O and Mumm-Ra, of either line. I think it’d be awesome if Hot Toys made a classic Lion-O and Mumm-Ra figure, they are awesome when it comes to sculpting and articulation.

I’ve been lobbying for Hot Toys and/or Side Show on here for quite a while. Would LOVE to see Sideshow do a 12" line similar to their Joe line, as those Joe figures are awesome.

Hot Toys does some amazing stuff too, but most of their figures seem to be based on movie properties.

I’d be happy with either company doing a large scale highly articulated figure line of the core characters.

Made it into the Ban Dai booth as well after promising to report here!

Gorrax I believe is the name of the spike ball character. Also, maybe this has since been reported elsewhere, but that little toad guy is NOT S-S-Slithe. He is a generic mutant henchman to be included with a mutant vehicle. S-S-Slithe was shown in the sizzle real, and he looks great!! Very much like the old design, made a little more menacing looking (just as they did with Vultureman and Jackalman).

And for those of us wondering which to buy, and how we’re going to fit all these toys…there may also be a 6 inch Classics line!

See the show has won me over already.

For YEARS I asked “OK, he’s VULTURE-Man, so why can’t he fly?”. Well there is a change I like, lol.

I’m not doubting you, but I’ve got to ask “why?” if this is true.

Not a lot of difference between 6" and 8", and the articulation is already ridiculous on the 8" line. I can’t possibly fathom what adding a 6" classics line would do for the Thundercats property when we’re already going to have figure overload in July/Aug as it is.
