Hi all,

I just thought you guys would like to know that earlier this evening I spoke via e-mail with a guy by the name of Anthony Snyder - although I’ve had no dealings with him personally, Anthony has apparently been selling original comic book artwork for some years. I discovered Anthony’s site when I discovered he had several pre-production comic book pages showcased on there from Marvel’s ThunderCats, as well as a b&w pencil & ink version of Ale Garza’s cover for DC/Wildstorm’s Superman/ThunderCats one-shot. Taking a shot in the dark, I e-mailed Anthony to ask whether it would be possible for us to showcase these images here at TCL.Org…

And he agreed! :slight_smile: He says that all he would like in return is a link to his website, to quote: “you can ue scans from my site fine if you help me sell stuff by putting a link that would be great
Anthony” :slight_smile:

My only concern about these images is that the originals are for sale from his website, and so if they are eventually sold the copyright for them will no longer be his as he will no longer own them. In which case, we may have to take them down - however, it may never happen (or a new owner may be happy for us to showcase them), and I think the material he’s agreed to let us showcase here is too good not to use if we possibly can! The interior pages are from Marvel’s ThunderCats #23 - there are bonus points for anyone who can tell me which episode of the cartoon it’s adapting! :wink:

Excellent find Chris…although I’m not a comic book collector I just might be inclined to buy them slowly…except of course that $650 Superman/Thundercats piece

Yeah, if I had a spare $650 that Superman/ThunderCats piece would be mine, I think it’s lovely! And, that’s not even the cover of that issue I ended up buying! :smiley:

Apologies for the double-post, but I just thought you guys would like to know that, in the past 24 hours, I’ve been hot on the heels of more comic book art pieces for hosting here at TCL.org! Whilst so far it’s fair to say that none of these are exclusives (they are all hosted at www.comicartfans.com), these have all been donated with the owners’ permission and many of those owners have had very kind words to say about the site! :slight_smile:

Thanks to these generous donations, including the exclusive artwork that Tim Perkins donated, we now have a total of 57 pages of original comic book art pieces!! :slight_smile: This is enough material that I am seriously contemplating giving “Original Comic Book Art” its own subsection in the Comic Section! :slight_smile:

I definitely think that original comic art will end up getting its own subsection - we’re now up to 66 pages of material!! :slight_smile:

EDIT: Also just saved the eBay pics from collector Tom Kalb, as discussed in this thread: http://www.catslair.net/forums/showthread.php?t=503 - although those images are poor quality, this does nonetheless bring us up to 70 pages of comic book art material!!! Can you tell I’m excited?! :smiley:

EDIT 2: Just been granted permission to use three more pieces, all commissions/concept work from Dogs of War artist Brett Booth - these are currently for sale, so at some point a new owner may ask us to take them down, but the current owner is very happy for us to use them and says she doesn’t even need crediting! :slight_smile:

EDIT 3: Just obtained two more donated pieces - at first I misunderstood this guy when he e-mailed me back and told me “Knock yourself out. I hate watermarks.” But, Kyle advised me that “knock yourself out” is another way of saying “go for it”, even though I’d never heard the expression before! :wink: I e-mailed this guy to clarify the situation, and he’s happy for us to use his images provided we leave them un-watermarked! Ralph has promised me some more scans from his collection of Ed McGuinness ThunderCats artwork, although he says he’s very busy at the moment and so it may be a while before he can get round to doing them. Both of these guys have been very gracious and generous! :slight_smile:

90 pages! Wow, let’s all hope that some more of these e-mails I’ve sent out can come good with at least another 10 pieces! :smiley:

EDIT 5: Here’s three more great pieces from this website, www.fanfare-se.com - the webmaster, Tom Flemming, was extremely generous in allowing us to use scans of the three comic art pieces he has for sale, even offering to e-mail me unwatermarked copies for us to watermark ourselves! He was extremely pleased that I bothered to ask first - I guess a lot of sites must just swipe this stuff. I’m going to ask for the unwatermarked scans if he doesn’t mind, but for now have saved the three pics on his website:

Although I hated the introduction of Dogs into the Thundercat Universe, this is a really nicley illustrated piece (from an art point of view) There’s no stopping you Chris!

I’ve got to confess I never picked up the Dogs of War series because by the time it was published I was rather disillusioned with the stuff DC/Wildstorm were putting out - at some point I will need to pick those issues up! :slight_smile:

Also, I would say that the concept of introducing dogs into the ThunderCat universe was an idea first dreamed up by Marvel UK - their 1989 Annual (released at the end of 1988, just to be confusing! ;)) features a text story called, ahem, “ThunderDogs Ho!” Despite what you might think, it’s actually a cool story! :slight_smile:

Darn right - I won’t rest until we have a pre-production version of every story page and cover of every ThunderCats comic ever published! And that, my friends, will take some doing! :wink: :smiley:

I agree, it is heavily stylised as Jim Lee’s artwork normally is - you either love it or hate it! I’m in the latter category, but knowing how popular his artwork is still makes this a special piece to display - if you’re up on your X-Men characters, I tend to think of this cover as “Wolverine Lion-O”! :wink:

Off the subject everyone but i have the good news that i have managed to purchase a CD with 50+ pages of model sheets, production drawings, etc to be displayed. I have not received it yet but should be sometime next week. Just a small contribution on my part towards the Cartoon section

BTW, I would just add that I believe Matt (assuming that’s who you got that CD from) has some ThunderCats scripts in his collection too - I wonder if he might be willing to scan them for us…? :slight_smile:

The only thing about these two images that I’ve had donated is that they are bitmap files rather than the usual .jpegs, and I’m not able to convert them (at least, not as far as I know). Would somebody be able to do this for me? :slight_smile:
