Just to let you guys know too, I’m in the process of interviewing UK comic artist Lee Sullivan, who contributed roughly half a dozen covers to the UK ThunderCats comic! I’ve tried to use his interview as a means of both talking about his work and trying to glean an insight into the inner workings of Marvel UK back in the 1980s! Anyways, he says he thinks he may have some or possibly even all of the covers he drew in his archives, and when he gets the time he’s going to have a look for me - two more would do the job, more would be the icing on the cake!
Whilst between these four donors it only adds up to another 4 pages of artwork, this is still exciting because featured are 2 x Jim Mooney pieces from Marvel’s 1980s ThunderCats series and 2 x Ed Benes pieces from ThunderCats: The Return by DC/Wildstorm!
And, the final reason why this is exciting - [SIZE=4]102 pages!! [/SIZE][SIZE=2]My target is reached and surpassed! There are quite a few things now awaiting addition to the Comic Section, hopefully soon Kyle & I will be able to get them online! :)[/SIZE]
Yeah, I know what you mean - seeing such a high-quality scan of the artwork, whereby you can actually see the brush-strokes of the ink, is pretty special!

To answer my own question - a lot bigger! In the past week I’ve been able to get scans of two UK comic covers from UK artist Lee Sullivan (as well as an interview - see my other thread!), completed but minus the TCats logo, bar code, etc. Lee also contributed a scan of a piece of Lion-O and Mumm-Ra that he was commissioned to draw for a video game magazine back in the 1980s. And, I’ve also been able to get my hands on scans of some gorgeous pencil-and-ink Ed Benes artwork from ThunderCats: The Return, including the front covers to #'s 1 & 2 - I’ve been trying to get permission to host these images on TCL for months now, and finally managed to pull it off!
LOL, thanks for that, Martin my friend! Remember that most of this artwork (maybe as much as 90% or so) is available to view elsewhere on the Internet, notably at www.comicartfans.com. However, what TCL is doing is gathering this material together under one online “roof” for the first time, and I’d be willing to bet that for a large proportion of ThunderCats fans, the first time they see these pieces will be here at TCL!
All of the UK-based stuff we have so far is exclusive - as are about 10 or 12 pages of the US stuff too!
I agree, that’s one of my favourite pieces that we’ve aquired - that was the cover to the UK ThunderCats #1, and the circles with the character headshots were reused several times by Marvel, notably in the first UK Annual!
I’ve just realised - now with Tom Li’s and Lee Sullivan’s contributions we have scans of the original comic art for 5 ThunderCats #1’s - the cover to the first ever US ThunderCats comic, published by Marvel and drawn by comics legend Jim Mooney, the cover to DC/Wildstorm’s TCats #1 drawn by Ed McGuinness, the cover to ThunderCats: The Return drawn by Ed Benes, the cover to ThunderCats: Dogs of War drawn by Brett Booth, and the cover to the UK #1, published by Marvel UK and drawn by Lee Sullivan! How cool is that?!

Artist is Mike Royer, it is an original so it makes it extra special.Im hoping I can get the Tygra art as well. Congratulations on aquiring such a beautiful piece - quick question, did you buy that off of Mike Royer himself? I was just wondering whether he would be willing to partake in a brief interview for this site, either in the Cartoon Section or as the first interview for the Merchandise Section!

EDIT: Just to further legitimise the inclusion of this piece in our forthcoming ThunderCats Original Comic Art Gallery - Mike Royer is actually reasonably well-known in the comics field, having worked for both Marvel & DC Comics, most notably as an inker for the work of the legendary Jack Kirby!
And, an interesting piece of trivia, Mike Royer has actually done work for Disney - his most notable work was taking the original illustrations from A.A. I really wouldnt know where to start as far as an interview goes, if you can possibly find any info on how to contact him that would be just awesome. Perhaps you can try to find his conatct info. I have tried but have found nothing
Looking at the pic of that piece you uploaded, I would be absolutely shocked if it was a fake - to me you can just tell if a piece of art is legitimate or not, and that one looks the real deal!
Yeah, I’ve tried to have a look myself and been unable to locate any info - perhaps if you win the Tygra piece you could ask the eBay seller if he has any contact info? How cool to think that the illustrator of the WB DVDs also developed the designs of the Winnie the Pooh characters!
I saw that website and was amazed to know that he is the one who does Winnie the Pooh. Hopefully i can contact the seller and see if he has any contact info. for Mike Royer
