I should have posted something about this a long time ago - a while back, I heard about a small, independantly-published magazine known as cereal:geek, which will focus on animated series from the 1980s. You can read more about it here:
The publisher of this magazine is someone I’ve been friends with for the better part of a decade, and someone well-known to the He-Man & She-Ra online fan community, James “Busta Toons” Eatock!
Might it be worth investigating the possibility of contributing some ThunderCats-related material to this site, either in terms of articles or allowing the mag to reproduce selected content, all in exchange for a plug for the site? What do you think, guys? Please can you LMK? Many thanks!

Neil told me that when this was first announced (remember that I should have posted this a looooong time ago, LOL!) he spoke to James and told him to let him know if he wanted anything from us - just wondering what you guys would think about me contacting him with a reminder, kind-of like a double-pronged attack?

Sounds like they need some positive ThunderCats press to redress the balance! But, that aside, for someone like James to state how much better he thinks we are than He-Man.Org, which is widely regarded as the biggest '80s cartoon-based website on the Internet, I thought that was cool!
Chris whatever you can do to bring the Thundercats portion from the magazine cereal:geek into our site I would more than encourage it. If we can give him more exposure I am sure he would give TCL.org exposure in return even if its something like mentioning in the magazine or a link of Thundercatslair on his site. Remember that in order to get higher rankings in Google we need our link spread out all over the web. Just my .02 cents
Well I was assured a while back by Jon himself that the article is done in a contructive manner and is not just a bashing Thundercats session for the sake of it. I guess I’ll wait to read it though first! lol

Well their design is good (but it has to be right? since they are all professional artists!) and the cartoon section/guides that James made are not bad. But everything else needs a major overall. Ah the things we could do as a team to that site, possibilities are endless!
It’s really nice of James to make those comments about our site. I’m really glad he likes it and hope we can be involved somehow with the magazine. To be honest I haven’t spoken to James in quite a while. I’m pretty much out of the loop with the magazine, is it out yet/available to order?
If everyone is OK with this, I’m definitely going to speak to James about the possibility of including some ThunderCats-related content in a future issue - I’ll also let him know what you’ve said, MannyF, about giving the magazine a mention on the front page of this site, I know he’ll be delighted!
Just a thought, and obviously I’d need to speak to him about it - James mentions that the forthcoming issue of cereal:geek has TCats pin-ups in it - I know that my buddy Kyle has some different style ThunderCats artwork down, largely viewable on the Fan Art Board, maybe one of those would be suitable for publication in a future issue of the magazine?!

I don’t know, certain elements of this magazine look excellent and certain elements I’m not so keen on - I’m still trying to make up my mind whether to buy #1 or not! I hate that image of She-Ra on the first page of the website, for some reason I actually find it disturbing!
How do you mean controversial, Martin, have there been other fans commenting? I couldn’t see a thread about this magazine on the He-Man.Org Boards when I looked earlier today…?

But what do we get in return? I mean Jon is a mate so don’t take this the wrong way, but if we are gonna endorse a magazine with an article criticizing Thundercats (however mild it is) I’d want something out of it. Now I believe there is no such thing as bad publicity (publicity is publicity) so the negative article doesn’t worry me really. However if we are gonna give it a nod it’s only fair we get a mention from him as well.
Yeah, I’d had a similar thought - in fact I was regretting not asking James about the possibility of one of us contributing to a future magazine, and getting ThunderCats some positive publicity! Although I wouldn’t say it to James because it’s not worth it, as a ThunderCats fan I am mildly annoyed that their first major feature in this magazine is by someone saying how crap they are…
I will say that I personally don’t have a problem with TCL giving a shout-out to stuff that might be of interest to fans of the property, without us getting something out of it in return - for example, we put up an article on the front of the site about a toy magazine (Lee’s?) running a cover story about ThunderCats toys. But, I take your point Neil about the content of the magazine. James has told me that there are also some pin-ups and other TCats illustrations in this issue, including one of Cheetara fighting Chilla and some comical ones, with (and I quote) “some superb ThunderCats pin-ups ready for issue two” - but, your point is well made.
I’d say we should give it a plug! I’ve got the magazine in hand at the moment, and the negative article is written in kind of a jokey, but constructive, way. And it’s called ‘Why I dislike Thundercats…’ so I’m assuming the ‘Why I dislike…’ bit is going to be a regular and they’ll do other series. Theres some nice art backing it up too
My personal feeling is that we should give it a minor plug as a magazine focussing on 1980s animation - “obviously not just ThunderCats, but others such as He-Man, She-Ra, Transformers, Jem, Real Ghostbusters, etc.” - and thus of potential interest to the type of folks who might visit this site.
I hold my hand up and confess to a personal bias in that James Eatock is a longstanding friend of mine who I’d enjoy helping out (which reminds me, I must buy the damn magazine already, LOL!), but, if I divorce myself completely from that, this is the first magazine of its kind to focus on nothing but 1980s animation, which ThunderCats was a big part of, so it might be a project that it would be good for us to be seen to throw our weight behind…
I still think it wouldn’t hurt for us to get a mention.
As for plugging magazines, this is different as we know the editor on a more personal level whereas with Lee’s we didn’t. I don’t think we will get anywhere if we keep advertising stuff and getting nothing back for our efforts. Frankly I’m surprised James didn’t offer this when he asked if we could mention the mag on our site.
However if someone does want to post about it on the front page it’s their perogative. Still think we need to push for a mention though, otherwise if we carry on with this attitude we will stop at the bottom of google ranking period.
