Magazine focussing on 1980s animation - of interest? :)

Chris here…

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t ask for a mention - I’m saying that in certain circumstances I personally don’t have a problem with us bringing certain specific things that could be of interest to the online ThunderCats community to their attention, just (if you like) as “news items”.

I think if the decision were mine to make, what I would probably do is add a brief mention about it to the front page, and then contact James telling him that I’d done so, and in the context of that, diplomatically enquire whether he would be willing to consider allowing one of us to submit a (positive! ;)) article about ThunderCats to a future issue of the magazine, perhaps incorporating a mention of www.thundercatslair.org, and then take the discussion from there. Psychologically, by adding a plug for the magazine to the front page of the site, you’ve actually made it more awkward for him to say no, but neither does it look like you’ve come back and said “What’s in it for me?”

I have to deal with stuff like this all the time with the folk music club I run - you would be amazed how many other clubs, venues and festivals think that a folk club is a free advertising service! I’m very hot on “reciprocal advertising” and not being taken for a mug, and would like to think I have an instinct for evaluating situations like this one…

At the end of the day, that’s pretty much all I have to say - unless anyone here has a strong objection I’ve pretty much made up my mind that I’ll start up a thread about the magazine on our “Other” Board as a personal favour to James, but I leave the decision about the site’s front page to MannyF, mainly because, well, I love giving him the hard jobs! (Only kidding!)

Take care…

ok after talking to a close friend and asking there advice it seems Chris has a good point, so perhaps it is a good idea to advertise the mag asap!

Perhaps you could write something up Chris and get a preview pic of the mag? Can you also get full details on how to buy it as well? Perhaps even get a contact email for folks should they have any trouble ordering? I’m happy to post it all up if everyone else is busy!

If were gonna do it, let’s do it! (to quote Panthro!)

Chris here…

Cool - out of curiosity I’d be interested to know who the close friend was, although I reckon I could guess!

I’d be happy to write something up - how’s about something like:

New magazine focussing on 1980s animation
Just a heads-up to let everyone know that a new magazine spotlighting animated series of the 1980s, titled cereal:geek, has recently been launched. The magazine will feature insightful articles and breathtaking illustrations of many 1980s animated icons, such as He-Man, She-Ra, Transformers, Jem, the Real Ghostbusters, and of course, ThunderCats! For more information and where to order, log onto the magazine’s official website, http://www.cerealgeek.com !

For an illustration, my temptation would be to just use the cereal:geek logo rather than the front cover, although I’ve no strong opinion. Assuming everyone’s happy with this being plugged on the front of the site, LMK what image you think would be good and I’ll try and get it from James!

Take care…

Maybe we can snag some free copies in exchange for some advertisement…Im just kidding. However if James can plug TCL in the magazine somehow I’d be up for that bigtime. I would be in favor of a plug in the front of the site but I think if possible to get one either in James website or on the magazine preferably would work out awesome for us.

Cool, we can post this news up tomorrow then?

I’ve just posted up the Fandom Awards news on the front page! Does everyone think that’s ok?

Oh and should the Toy Fare news go up as well?

Chris here…

I’m happy if everyone else is - but, do you want me to try and get an illustration image from James in the meanwhile? LMK!

I’d been going to suggest that we do so - that’s a beautifully-written piece on the front page there, Neil, excellent stuff!

I’d say yes, maybe add a new paragraph below the one I wrote, saying something like “Also, Toyfare magazine are scheduled to feature an interview with Lion-O voice actor Larry Kenney in Issue #119! In the magazine (due to be published in May), Larry will speak about his work on ThunderCats, as well as comment on the rumours of a forthcoming new series!”

Take care…

Just my two cents…for what it’s worth, I really have no qualms putting up a story about the magazine. For one, it’s a story that will be pushed down after a couple of updates…it’s not like it’s going to stay static on the top of the page. Initially, people will read about it, but it’ll be in the archive after about two or three updates.

Now, if we have a permanent plug somewhere on the top or right side of the page, then may be I’d be asking for something in return, but since that isn’t the issue, feel free to write something about it, both on the forums and on the front page if you’d like.

Chris here…

I’ve heard again from James, who’s advised me that, as suspected, the “Why I Dislike…” section in this magazine will be a regular feature, and that next issue it will be He-Man that gets the treatment! The next issue should also feature a comical pin-up of Lion-O, two “great images” of both Tygra and Cheetara, and an article spotlighting the opening titles of ThunderCats!

Are we all cool with the concept of plugging this on the front page? If so, please can you guys LMK and I can respond to James asking for a graphic to illustrate the news story!

Take care…

Thumbs up on my end. Can we get a plug on the magazine?

Chris here…

If everyone’s cool with putting the news up on the front page, I’m going to let James know that it’s done, and then have a word about possibly getting TCL into the magazine then!

Take care…

Hope nobody minds that I posted the Cereal:geek news up on the front page

I just got the info and an image of the cover from him. Hopefully it looks ok. I used mostly Chris’ write up along with a few bits I added and what James himself said of the magazine (and of issue 2!)

Chris here…

All looks brilliant to me, Neil, first class job!

Take care…
