So what are your thoughts on Ma-Mutt showing up In the new series? I’m kinda torn on this one. If he’s done right and by right I mean having him be a nasty, menacing, foaming at the mouth companion to Mumm-Ra, then yes. If he’s made out to be comic relief then please leave him out.
I have to vote no. I could see Mumm-Ra having a viscous drooling attack hound with Ma-Mutt’s features perhaps. But to me it would be effectively like a whole different character. Maybe they just call him Cerebus or something. So why even go there?
Ma-Mutt was Rankin Bass’ attempt to make Mumm-Ra less scary and more kid friendly. It worked and that’s not a good thing. Leave it back in the eighties show I say.
I vote yes. Ma-mutt was hands down one of Mumm-Ra’s most capable henchmen (or henchdog as the case may be). Mumm-Ra gave that dog a job to do and most of the time he got the job done. And I’m not opposed to having villains actually having a pet that they care for.
I voted yes. I like Ma-Mutt. But I agree that he shouldn’t be just comic relief, and I don’t want to see episodes like “Ma-Mutt’s Confusion” in the new series.
But it’d make sense for a sorcerer like Mumm-Ra to have a familiar, so if they decide to give him one, I’d like to be Ma-Mutt.
I’m the one who hasn’t make his mind yet. Ma-Mutt was interesting, but he would have to be very well-thought. I want to see howe the show develops and portrays Mumm-Ra himself to decide wether the dog would be a good introduction to the series or not.
I’m with MRW. I vote no. Like he said, it took away from the menace of the character and made him too kid-friendly. I don’t mind references to the character (like the design of the lantern Jaga’s imprisoned in), but keep it limited to stuff like that. It’s obvious the showrunners want to make this Mumm-Ra a genuinely evil and legitmate threat in this show. Including Ma-Mutt wouldn’t fit into this scheme…unless he was made into something like a bigger attack dog like MRW suggested. Maybe something reminiscent of the Terror Dog from Ghostbusters? I could see that.
I think Ma-Mutt would fall into the same vote as Mumm-Ra Na IMO. It can be worked into the show as part of Mumm-Ra’s past, but be left pretty vague.
Seriously…Mumm-Ra/Ma-Mutt time just made me lol.
You mean lines like, “Oh, Ma-Mutt, we must do something about your breath!” or “I’m going to make you the most happiest, horrid hound in the universe!” don’t help Mumm-Ra’s evil image? 
Nope. And neither did “Goody-goody goo drops.” It’s okay, I know you’re just kidding. Personally, though, whenever I heard him say that stuff, I would think, "Really? REALLY???" :facepalm o_O
I know it was supposed to be a kids’ show, but come on. This was a character who was intended to look horrifying. He looked like he practically jumped off of an Iron Maiden album cover. This is a being who is thousands of years old, can assume any shape, has the power of darkness at his command, and could also probably summon demons on a whim and just as soon kill you by looking at you. Having him utter such lines really did make him look ridiculous. This was the problem I had ultimately with every Thundercats villain; that in order to make them “safe,” they were ultimately relegated to buffoon status.
This is why Ocelli and I decided to kill them all off in our story, as we felt they had been essentially FUBAR’ed, and it was just easier to start off fresh with a new villain who could be a genuine threat, rather than just use Mumm-Ra, which would have felt to us like, “Oh. That guy, again?” o_O
So I’m really glad that when they rebooted this show, they decided to make Mumm-Ra a real honest-to-goodness villain that I would enjoy seeing, rather than someone whom I would eventually get tired of. So I hope to gods they keep him and the other villains genuinely threatening, and not let them slip into buffoonery again.
I’d like to see most of the old characters from the OS appear at some point. I think Snarf needs an evil counterpart. I always loved it when Snarf and Ma-Mutt squared up in the OS 
I think this is less of a discussion of including Ma-mutt and more a discussion on how Mumm-Ra reacts to him and treats him. I want him. I want him intelligent, and vicious and competent, But I don’t want Mumm-Ra to use baby talk and stuff like that with him.
Agree w/ you! maybe if they make him look like a cerberus type of monster and so menacing that everything he sees he wants to just destroy it, even Mumm-ra. And the only way for Mumm-ra to control it its using magic not because hes his pal.
I voted yes, if only because any character can have a place if it’s carefully done. I agree with most of you that a larger dog would work. Or maybe a Jackalman that has shown promise.
I think all we’re gonna see of Ma-Mutt has already appeared in the show, has anyone else looked really closely at that lantern Jaga’s in? Notice the resemblance?
I voted no. Never really cared for the character. Of course if they do create a Ma-Mutt in this version, it will most likely be like those dog things in Ghostbusters.
I voted Yes. I admit that I love villains with pets. However, make him delightfully nasty and evil. Mumm-ra has already established himself as pretty vicious, so no baby talk or the like.

I don’t know. It looked more like a cat than a dog to me. Especially with the way the ears and the muzzle are.
I thought the same thing. Looks more cat like to me.
