i would expect Tygra to have a lot of built up anger and resentment toward Lion-O. yes, he is physically superior to him, and apparently was a “better” prince, following orders and such, but how many times can you hear “good job Tygra, too bad you’ll never be king”, or “good job Tygra, too bad Lion-O trumps you in the end”, “good job Tygra, too bad you will never be better than second place where it matters”?
we heard reference to this kind of stuff more than once just in the premiere, so imagine how often Tygra probably heard it throughout the years.

More on topic–while I’ll openly admit I’m a Cheetara/Tygra fan, I’m okay with Lion-O/Cheetara so long as it’s not contrived. I really don’t need to see another show where the main character gets the girl because he’s the main character. So far, I just don’t get any romance vibes, but we’ll see how things go.
In addition, if Lion-O/Cheetara is end game I see no point in a love triangle. Lion-O and Tygra already have tension and rivalry, what would adding a girl bring to it? If Tygra goes off the deep end because he doesn’t get any that’s pretty lazy writing.
Personally I like the idea of Lion-O being attracted to Cheetara, mixing up her supportiveness as interest and ultimately lose her to Tygra because that’s part of growing up. You don’t always get the girl, you don’t always get what you want, and what makes you a stronger and a better person is learning to get past it and live your life without it weighing you down. A major focus of the show is Lion-O growing up and maturing so I feel this would be a good life lesson for him.
i really like this. so far, Lion-O has been portrayed as very entitled. he gets his way no matter what, and i’d like to see him actually have to deal with not getting something he wanted
The producers indicated that the civilians agreed that Tygra would be a better choice than Lion-O. Even in the premiere after Lion-O saved those lizards Tygra said everyone thought Lion-O was crazy and that they think it was another example of him not taking things seriously. I imagine everyone liked Tygra.
Agreed. The emphasis of Lion-O’s character development is him growing up into the role of both an adult and a king. As an adult you can’t get everything you want. I know he’s “second place” to Tygra for everything but the crown, but he still got the crown and he’s using it.
And how long will Tygra maintain his physical superiority over Lion-O anyway? His advantage has been due to age. Claudus was a mountain of a lion; it stands to reason that Lion-O will at least be close to that size fully grown. Captain Tygus, on the other hand, looked about as big as Tygra is now (Jaga’s size).
Definitely agreed. There is alot of backstory to be revealed for all the characters still to more fully understand them. I was just basing my feelings on what we have seen so far. And again, to be clear, I see BOTH Tygra and Lion-0 as arrogant and immature at times just in different ways. Both have “resentment issues” for different, arguably justifiable reasons. They both have some growing up to do.
But, this is my point…so you cannot be King. Well, is being King that important really? Tygra was the favored son all their lives and is a prince, etc. I just don’t see it as such a terrible thing that he cannot be King. If Tygra is resentful he cannot be King, that says more about Tygra (in his current state of mind) than anything else.
I don’t see this personally. How has Lion-0 been portrayed as very entitled, more so than anyone else or Tygra? I don’t see how Lion-O has gotten everything he ever wanted. For me, it seems that Lion-O and Tygra have both been rather entitled as princes, etc.
The bottom line is that Lion-O IS now King so certainly he needs to act with authority at times and be respected/treated as King. But, part of the show’s story arc is clearly Lion-O learning to be a good King and the others (Tygra and Panthro) coming to respect him as one.

I don’t know, the whole thing about how Cheetara was showing Lion-o how to “work his sword” seemed to had Lion-o in a fluster. But, for me, it’s coming off as a bit one-sided and he’s just a horny teen for a slightly older woman.

Although, I also think Lion-o getting EVERYTHING also comes off as a bit Gary-Stu too. but i’m really looking forward to seeing how he comes of age through the next seasons. He’ll be king material in no time.
To be honest and fair, I don’t remember Tygra ever saying he deserved to be king (I can be remembering abd though); I remember Claudus and Grune saying so, but not Tygra. He said he’d make a better king, but not that he deserved it, which is different.
So, even when I think he might be jealous of Lion-o, I think “resentment” is a very strong word yet.
In the premiere When Claudus said Lion-O will make a great king Tygra said, and I quote, “Of course he will. I just would’ve made a better one.” Sounds like he thinks he should be king to me.
Sounds to me like he wanted to **** Lion-O off, and like he was practcally floating away on all that praise Grune was inflating his ego with. I never really got the feeling that he actually wants to be king instead of Lion-O, he just makes a real effort to make people think of him as better than Lion-O. He did try to tell Lion-O to grow up so that people would stop thinking of him as a crazy weirdo. That doesn’t sound like someone who is actually trying to undermine the future king and steal the throne.
Yeah, I don’t think Tygra would ever go so far as to undermine Lion-O or try to steal the throne, and I don’t think anyone is suggesting that. I think he cares for Lion-O too much deep down to go that route.
But, he does feel he is superior and better than Lion-O, and that is simply what I feel needs to change. And, to bring this all back to the love triangle topic, Cheetara liking Lion-O might bring this all out into the open and force Tygra to confront and deal with these superiority feelings he has over Lion-O.
We shall see! As I think Nine Tigers said, as long as whatever happens seems natural and true to the characters, it is all good.
It just seems so sad that he should have to get over his feelings of superiority by being shown that no, in the end, he will not be better than Lion-O at anything (because let’s face it, in the end Lion-O is going to be THE Thundercat, better, stronger, kinder and more well liked than all the others !!!), despite all his hard work to prove otherwise, and he will lose everything he wants to Lion-O. It would be a lot better, in my opinion, if he started respecting and supporting Lion-O because he sees that Lion-O has grown into someone he thinks is worthy of his respect, not because Lion-O gets the girl. Him simply losing to Lion-O and having his spirit crushed sounds more likely to send him down a similiar path as Grune than making him get over his immature feelings of superiority and become the support Lion-O needs.
I think he has already started showing some respect and sympathy towards Lion-o because Lion-o has proved himself worthy of it.
Yes, he still might be snarky and teasing at times, but let’s not confuse that with a lack of respect or with the fact that he’s not recognizing some of Lion-o’s virtues.
He’ll be king material in no time.
