So they’re saying there will be love triangles in the new cartoon series. From what I gather, it sounds like it’ll primarily be Cheetara going back and forth between Lion-O and Tygra. :eek:
So my question is this.
Do you want to see romances develop among the main characters?
If so, who do you want to see them develop between?
If you do not want to see romances develop but know that the writers are going to do it anyway, what do you think would be the best case scenario?
Personally, I don’t like the idea. I prefer like they had it in the original series where it’s one unified team that have more of a family feel. If they must develop, I would rather Cheetara fall for a guy other than Lion-O because there’s nothing quite as awkward as your equal co-worker dating your boss. I think it would be better for Lion-O if he fell in love with someone outside his team. Just my opinion.
From the trailers, I get the impression that there’s a certain level of innocence with Lion-O’s character. He seems rather young and perhaps naive. Someone full of ideals and a strong moral sense that really hasn’t been tainted by negative worldly experiences.
From the trailers, I get the impression that Tygra is older, probably not a whole lot, but seems to be older and more experienced in life. In the second trailer, there’s a scene where he and Lion-O are side by side when Cheetara suddenly zaps in front of them and pulls out her staff. Before she arrived, Tygra was standing there with both fists clenched and that coc-ky looking smile you see in my current avatar, I’m guessing amused by the mutants thinking they could take him down. He strikes me as being perhaps more comfortable flirting with women than Lion-O would be, I think Lion-O would perhaps be a little more awkward at it.
From the trailers, I get the impression that Cheetara has a lot of worldly experience and is in no way naive about anything. From all this, she strikes me as a better match for Tygra than Lion-O. I would see Lion-O more with a girl who shares that more innocence and naiveness like himself. Like in the original series, I would see Lion-O with Nayda before I’d ever see him with Willa. I would have seen Tygra with Willa before being with Nayda.
I agree with the both of you. Tygra and Cheetara would be a better match. Cheetarah seems like she’d be hard to get, which would just attract the guys to her even more. Tygra will probably hit on her, but Cheetarah will see through it, and maybe tease him a bit.
Lion-O, being younger and more naive, would be a lot more honest with his advances, and I don’t think Cheetarah would enjoy teasing him as much because he might not handle it as well as Tygra would, because he wouldn’t really get exactly how to “play the game,” you know? I’ve said it before, but I’d like it if Lion-O hooked up with Pumyra, who I’m hoping with be around his age and be more of a girly-girl than Cheetarah is.
Mandora always reminded me too much of Cheetara. Maybe because the voice is so similar and they’re both blonds. They did play with that though in the original series if I remember correctly. Didn’t some robot push her into Lion-O’s arms? Although Cheetara also indicated attraction to Lion-O in the original series as well.
I had that feeling in the original series too, that there was something going between those two, even when Tygra was too shy to make a move, and Lion-O didn’t waste a chance to touche Cheetara.
From what you say, I think (unlike Gold Lion) that there’s a risk then that Cheetara ends up with Lion-O. You know, the worldy girl (Cheetara) who usually goes out with coc-ky guys who flirt with every woman (Tygra) and she thinks that’s what she wants (or deserves), until she meets the young, innocent guy who shows her what love really is about.
That sucks. Judging from the trailers and interviews, Tygra already lost his family, his honor, the chance to be Lord of the TCs, and now the girl. I really want Cheetara to end up with TYgra, always wanted it.
I agree with Gold Lion though in that Pumyra would be great for Lion-O… hope that happens.
I haven’t seen anything to indicate Tygra has lost any Honor. Every time you see Claudius Tygra is right there beside him. I think he’ll be held in pretty high regard. Like someone Lion-O tries to live up to.
That’s what I was thinking from what I’d seen. I would assume that Tygra isn’t even elligible to become Lord of the ThunderCats because he isn’t a biological son of Claudus. Typically in hierarcy, the first born son of a king will assume the throne after his father. Being that Tygra was adopted, that wouldn’t qualify him, Lion-O being his father’s firstborn son would qualify him. I would think that if Tygra lost the throne to Lion-O, their relationship might not be the best, but in the previews it seems that they have a strong bond and that Tygra may be somewhat protective of Lion-O. We see them fighting before a large crowd and I’ll guess anything that’s the anointment trials. Tygra’s probably the best competition for Lion-O. All assumption. 2 more months!
Sorry, I didn’t explain myself. I was thinking of all the theories we came up with about Tygra, because iof being older, should have been the heir to the title of Lord of the TCs, and how that would have meant a dishonor to him… but that only IF that was the case lol.
Wouldn’t it be fun if, in the first love triangle Tygra - Cheetara - Lion-O, Lion-O “lost the girl” to Tygra, and then he makes Pumyra the object of his affection, entering another love triangle with Bengali, to whom he finally loses Pumyra as well?
I think Lion-O should get a non-TC female, but still a royal female indeed, as a final couple. With this, I mean to say thet TCs don’t necessarily have to be from the royalty (like Lion-O), just nobles by designation because some of teh following:
a) they did some heroic action (somehting like the Sir title in the UK)
b) were selected by their clans (I especially like this idea, that each clan of thunderians select the one they want to represent them in the TCs group, maybe after some trials inside those clans)
c) something else
So Lion-O could marry at the end a non-TC female who has some social status (like the daughter of some thunderian clan’s leader).
Romance can be a tricky thing to put into a cartoon thats ment for kids. With Avatar they did a good job with it, but there was no real triangle action. BUT if it happens…I’m a Lion-o/Chetara shipper myself. Why? Tygra is too good for Cheetara thats why!

But really, I think the L/C pair does alot more then a T/C pair.
Maybe writers are thinking of a love-hate relationship between self-sufficient Cheetara and coc-ky Tygra; you know, he’s the Casanova type, she the girl who doesn’t like to depend on guys, and they fight a lot but that only is a cover for their mutual attraction and feelings. That’s a classic lol.
I am a Lion-O / Cheetara fan. Evidense in the episode Sixth Sense clearly inplied who Cheetara was attracted to. Also I remember reading a posting on a TCats fansite, maybe it was Purrsia’s, that Leonard Starr indicated if he had remained on Thundercats there was going to be a romantic involvement between L & C. When I watched the episodes I felt that Tygra was a good friend, as was Panthro.
However, this is new cartoon and new situation and the dynamics are definitely changed. Who’s to say – T & C would have the chemistry and Lion-O be inwardly jealous of it. Ah…the possibilities. Makes me want to start writing again.
Not sure how Tygra is too good for Cheetara but Lion-O isn’t and why Tygra’s better than them both?
