I can see where your coming from, but that assumes that Thunderian society is equal. I’m guessing it will have high ideals that are not always lived upto. It could be that you have two different types of Thunderian’s - Thundercats (aristocrats) and those that are not.
As for the title Lord of the Thundercats, It may not be a hereditary title. If The Sword of Omens chooses the Lord, then when there isn’t one the Thunderians/Thundercat nobles select a King. Tygra may see it as a slight against his character when Lion-O is named as the Lord of the Thundercats, leaving Lion-O in complete shock. This is perhaps where Jaga steps in.
Can you imagine it? Two possible scenarios that would mean complete shame: a) the younger brother defeated him, thus meaning he wasn’t strong / smart enough; b) the sword picking Lion-O rather than him (being him the older), which would mean he wasn’t worthy, that he wasn’t at the height of things.
It would add a layer of complexity to the relationship between Lion-O and Tygra. In that they both have to work through the different things they face. Tygra seemingly passed over by his younger brother and the jealous feelings that brings (MumRa exploitation time), Lion-O struggling to fathom why the sword choose him over Tygra and all the pressures of being Lord of the Thundercats brings. Basic sibiling rivalry. I would find that far more interesting than Tygra and Lion-O being the best of friends and brothers. Adoption for Tygra would pose similar problems but shown in a different light. I think it might be crucial to know who the mother or mothers of Lion-O and Tygra are, as both Tygra and Lion-o could be rivals for the crown. Or Lion-O is way down the pecking order with Tygra being the next King. Lion-o being Lord of the Thundercats would put the cat amongst the piegons…
Where the Sword of Omen’s is concered I think in general it’s going to be something that is wrapped up in a lot of mythology for the Thunderians and thus a lot of false expectations. Claudius may expect it to choose himself or Tygra but not Lion-O. The only Thundercat who might have an idea of what’s going on could be Jaga.
I think there must be another explanation for all that. Bur that’s just my opinion of course.
We might all be barking up the wrong tree, but it’s fun to speculate about this sort of stuff and then looking back at seeing what you may have gotten right/close to or got completey wrong. I suspect I’m barking up the wrong tree but I can’t wait to find out!
I still like the idea of Tygra being adopted and maybe being raised to be Lion-O’s bodyguard. Afterall in the teaser you always see him next to Lion-O. Not to mention the Militaristic armor he had in the Promo pic. Then after Lion-O gets the sword and starts growing up more and more maybe he’ll feel less needed and that could bring up some stories there too.
Or maybe Tygra (with the military-looking armor) would be set to take Grune’s place as general of Thundara’s army.

I get yopur point too… but I still don’t like the idea of the older brother being rejected in favorof the younger one. I don’t think nothing good come come out of it. And I don’t like the idea of a sibling holding a grudge in his brother.
I guess though that, following the code of Thundera, Tygra would accept it in a honorable way, but would still be a deep wound IMO.

As he’s the one with the intelligence out of the core group it would maky Tygra a good tactician and suitable for the military general role! Not a bad idea…
How was the original series too complex for kids to understand? I think I was about 7 when it came out and I understood it fine. Except for the naked part, never understood why they didn’t need clothes on Thundera.
I have a couple of thoughts on Lion-O and Tygra being brothers that I didn’t read in any of the posts…

Lion-O’s mother died, Claudus remarried a woman who already had a son - Tygra. Tygra would then technically be Lion-O step-brother and Claudus’s step-son explaining why Lion-O would still be heir to the throne even with Tygra being older.

Lion-O and Tygra technically are not brothers but they have a friendship so close that they are like brothers. Or perhaps there was some kind of oath sworn between them that made them become brothers without Tygra actually being a son of Claudus.
I would like to know about Lion-O’s mom. I would like to know where Wily-Kit and Wily-Kat’s parents went to. Never understood how those two kids ended up on that ship without their parents. Maybe Jaga is their grandfather.

- Tygra’s parents were killed protecting either Claudus or Lion-O and Claudus took Tygra under his wing. I guess another spin on the adoption theory.

With Tygra the story behind his addition to the royal family can be anything. It could had been influenced by Lion-O’s mother herself.
I really hope we do get coverage on this. I didnt really question it in the original since there was so much it didn’t bother to explore. But this one is exploring much more already in a short span of episodes. And the idea of a family is emphatized with Tygra’s addition.
Lets not forget these are cats we are talking about here. Male Lions have the rights to any female in the pride, so -maybe- Lion-o’s daddy is a playa? But with the right bloodlines and nobility thats how Lion-o got the postion over Tygra?
But then again this is a kids cartoon so…its probably an adoptive brother thing that will play into plot somehow or have some episode around it.

I’m starting to like the idea that Tygra would be the rightful heir but that he did something to mess it up and forfeit the throne. So many possibilities with that storyline.
Yeah but then it would really mess things up for old fans/ viewers and Tygra fans would resent Lion-O for being a Usurper

Or it may be that the one who wields the sword is the “chosen one” you know like the “The Golden Child”
and for whatever reason Tygra wasn’t it and Lion-O was. That would explain why Tygra is the oldest but not the heir if they’re in fact blood brothers.
Guys it has already been completely confirmed that Tygra is adopted. He’s not the rightful heir.

It would all depend on how they approached it. If Tygra truly believed he no longer deserved the crown and held no resentment towards Lion-O, I think the audience would respond positively.
You don’t know fans…they can hate a character simply because he’s the main character and their fave isn’t. Fanboying is serious business..word
(Ichigo gets that all the time. He’s the only main character who gets hated for winning and not dying because he’s the main character)
I think true fans either adjust to change or they quit being fans. It’s just a misery to have the ones who are somewhere in the middle where they want to be fans but just can’t be happy about the show. I challenge that those people are really not fans, they either are trolls or they haven’t realized yet that they no longer like the show and move on. There was a show I liked years ago and it changed for the worst in my opinion and one day I just quit watching and stopped talking about the show with others.
