I assume, as I’m sure many others do, that Third Earth isn’t even in our solar system. Why try to connect it to us? This isn’t the OS anymore and there have been no hints whatsoever that it’s the same Earth as ours or anywhere near it.
Then why do they call it Third Earth?
Because that’s what it was called in the OS.
And aside from that someone from our Earth could’ve easily colonized another planet and named it after their home planet.
Sorry, Balgus. When I first read your prior post, I interpreted your statement as “no indication that it has anything to do with the original Earth”. Mea culpa.

Yup, her name was apparently Panthera, though it was never actually spoken on the show. It was apparently revealed during the crew chat last night.
She’s tall because she just happens to be tall. On second viewing, I see she was taller than Tygus too, though not taller than the strange Puma Cleric people. Leo was the odd one for being so short; I guess he’s either still growing or he’s just pint sized for his race.
I belive in the pilot multiple planets were seen in the skyline, so yeah it’s in a different solar system.
It may be the third planet that decendants of earth have colonized, thus the name.
This story ranks with “Ramlak Rising” as not one of the best. But as far as it went, it did all right in giving a backstory of how Leo overthrew Mumm-Ra and what Lion-O now must do to defeat Mumm-Ra once and for all. The armor worn by both in their fight sequence frankly didn’t do all that much for me, and I agree that it was a bit Voltron-ish in feel – perhaps more than a bit. And I’m curious about the animals they had on board Mumm-Ra’s ship: Where did they come from? Were they abducted from their homeworlds? Or did Mumm-Ra create them specifically to help him in his purpose of getting all the Stones of Power? 
I have been watching Silverhawks again recently and after watching the latest episode of Thundercats one thing became apparent…

A transformed MonStar has the same robotic look of Leo and Mumm-Ra. Everything points to MonStar having ownership of one of the stones, either in the past or as I am hoping, in the present.
Mon*Star may be one of the obstacles Lion-O and the Thundercats have to overcome to get one of the stones back

I totally agree. I’m not sure why the other Cats are even there except to create the appearance of similarity to the OS.
I agree, I thought it didn’t make sense for Lion-O to become Leo and to act out the part when he didn’t know what happened back then. It doesn’t make any sense why he would have learned more from becoming Leo than to observer. So I thought this absurd. If anything, allow Lion-O to somehow view his environment through the eyes of Leo, but not take him over.
The impression I got in the episode by how Mon-Star was displayed and what Mumm-Ra said - the impression I got is that Mon-Star is one of his subjects, one Mumm-Ra, when talking to Leo, likened Leo’s people to is being more advanced than the other species yet not that advanced.
I loved the squid/fish episode. I loved it and the pilot. Every episode since has been meh to me.
Maybe as Nine Tiger suggested - because in the fish episode, Lion-O had a weakness he needed to overcome.
Leo’s cat face covering his belly and chest and Mumm-Ra’s demon face covering his belly and chest I don’t like. Why do these guys remind me of Transformers?

“Blast” would be just fine. At least it connects more with the audience and it sounds normal.

I’m assuming this monstrous metal Mumm-Ra is the third Mumm-Ra they were hinting at making a toy of. And I would guess if they do that, they’ll make an armored Leo as well.

To those who dislike Lion-o taking over Leo: Jaga did say that he needed to succeed or the book will be closed to him forever. So in a way, it was some sort of trial to see if he was worthy of the knowledge the book had to offer.
And it seems to pay homage to the videogame assassin’s creed where a descendant of an assassins guild goes into a machine linking him with an ancestor to play out his missions and find clues and objects so people in the present day can make sense of it all. While playing, you basically need to stay synced and not veer off doing things your ancestor never did to complete missions.

As far as the Vacuum of Space debate… you have seen the shows that these are based off right? 
Mandora was on a motorcycle in space. Silverhawks were “partly real” and flew through space. Kids didn’t care about vacuum in the 80’s and they STILL DON’T CARE about the vacuum of space.
(random aside-in she-ra she “once” had a space helmet–no space suit-and she went into space multiple times. Kids simply do not care.)

This is something I’ve encountered within the fanfic community itself. Basically I’ve found the answer to be, “Whatever one wants it to be.” In fanfics I’ve seen people turn into everything from soap operas, to character studies, to comedies, to erotica, to…whatever the hell RDRivero writes!
Oceilli and I wanted to write a Thundercats story that was a sprawling interstellar epic. And some fans ripped us for it because, to them, Science Fiction and Space Opera had no place in Thundercats. I thought that odd, and even slightly hypocritical considering that some of the stories I had read seemed even further removed in tone and spirit from the original series than what we were doing. Okay, yes, I did write one scene that involved a space dogfight that read a little too much like something from Star Wars. I revised that in a later draft. But space battles are still a significant part of the story because if you’re writing a story about a war that takes place on different planets and the characters use spaceships to get from one planet to another, and some of those characters come from worlds that have a significant military presence in space, chances are that at some point there’s going to be a battle in space. Besides, the OS started with a space battle. So it’s not like the idea is without precedent.
The way I saw it, the Thunderians were a spacefaring civilization, as were the Plun-Darrians. The only reason the show spent the bulk of its time on Third Earth was because they were all marooned there. And until Thundera re-formed, they had no real reason to want to leave. Since we were setting our story ten years after the show ended, it seemed logical that in the course of rebuilding their civilization on New Thundera, they’d want to rebuild their space fleet, too. Besides, they also had to have some way to travel to Third Earth and other planets besides the Feliner. So why not give them a full-fledged starship? Besides, the Plun-Darrians were building their own space fleet, and the Avians and the Terrans had their own too. So, why not?
I will say this about the new show: not only is it a great reboot and re-interpretation of the original series, but it also looks like it’s shaping-up to be one of the better retellings of Flash Gordon that I’ve seen in a while.
No, really. Follow along. We have just learned that Lion-O’s ultimate goal is to unite the disparate races of Third Earth who have been squabbling and fighting amongst themselves, and rally them into a cohesive fighting force to overthrow and defeat Mumm-Ra. In Flash Gordon, Flash spent most of his adventures on Mongo traveling through its various kingdoms - which also coincidentally consisted of human/animal hybrids (Lion Men, Hawk Men, Shark Men, Beast Men, Lizard Men, etc.) - and enlisted their aid so that together they could overthrow Ming the Merciless. Both stories also strike a fine balance between Fantasy and Science Fiction. Characters wielded swords as well as laser guns. And flew in rocketships as well as rode on mounts. I’d say both are very similar in tone if you ask me.
I’d especially recommend you check out Filmation’s Flash Gordon series if you can find it. Not only is it one of the most faithful adaptations, but it’s also probably the best show they ever did! Fans of the old He-Man series might want to look at it as well, as Filmation pioneered some techniques in Flash Gordon that later made their way into He-Man, as well as featuring some of the same actors (particularly, Alan Oppenheimer used the same voice for Ming that he would use for Skeletor a few years later). So it’s definitely worth a look.
