Then tell us WHAT IS THUNDERCATS? I think they nail it pretty good tbh.
Not this show. If they had given the characters and places different names, would you know this was Thundercats? Would a casual viewer know it was? Because as of right now that’s all the correlation this show has w/ the brand.
Dont get me wrong I enjoy the show, but I’d still watch and enjoy it if it were called Supercats and the characters where named Bob, Sue, Tom and Larry.

This post and several other recent ones in other threads epitomizes the dangers of re-launching an old, beloved property. Namely, it is going to always rub some folks the wrong way since it will often be very different than the original. I think you will find that people have different viewpoints and definitions on what precisely is the “true” ThunderCats, or what the “brand” really means, entirely depending on your perspective and how you look back on the original series.
Now, is the new show doing everything perfectly? No, of course not. There will be somethings we all like better than others, weaker episodes, etc., just like the original. But, I think any objective observer would quickly notice the high quality of the new series so far and would identify it as ThunderCats. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but I find some of the reasons behind recent criticisms rather strange. The main sources of criticism seem to be coming from two primary sources:

People with very strong feelings on the original series and what ThunderCats therefore “should be”. The new show is just “too different” or “does not feel right”…all entirely subjective viewpoints based on how one nostalgically looks back on the original. Everyone has a right to this of course.

Folks with a strong preference for one of the secondary characters who feel the new show is too much all about Lion-O, is not focusing enough on their favorite character and/or it is all about Lion-O vs. the team. I personally find this view rather odd. I mean…we are only 7 episodes into the new show! And, within those 7 episodes we have already have a few that have some great “team” moments, and some great character moments for all characters. There is still alot more show to come and alot more character development! Also, as much as I love all the characters, Lion-O is the hero of the show, both new series and original series, so of course much of the show will be all about him at times. There is a really odd, almost “anti-Lion-O” vibe from some people. Just like the OS, Tygra/Cheetara/Panthro are awesome, important main characters, and the show is always arguably at its best when the whole “team” is involved, but they will always be secondary to Lion-O as he is the main focus of the story!
I think people are misunderstanding me. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the new show. I really like it. My kids like it. It’s turning out to be a great series. I’m not out there to bash it. I even Got a few of the new figures. I don’t want them to adhere strictly to the os. That would be boring and if I want to watch the os I’ll pop in the DVDs.
What my point is it could have been any other brand and It would still be a great show.
lets see we have cat-people who’s leader is a redhead with a sword that has a red jewel in the center.
the bad guy is a mummy who transforms into a bigger mummy and lives in a pyramid.
the cat’s home was destroyed and they have to escape into unknown territory.
the cat’s drive around in a tank.
If they took away the names and called it something else you know what we’d hear? that it was a rip off of Thundercats.
Things I have taken away from Legacy.
I enjoy that the Thundercats and other animals were pretty much abducted by Mum-ra and all outcast on 3rd Earth. They Probably renamed their kingdom Thundera in respect of their original planet. The whole, outcast among the masses, was something I really enjoyed and identified with the OS. I like that they have kind of kept that.
Also, the lead Jackle reminded me of the design of the Dogs Of War, which made me think that a techy race (Hey, they probably were harvested from their own planet as well) of Dogs would reign down upon 3rd Earth in the 2nd season.
I’m okay with their Mecha Space suits and whatnot. Do we think that the stones will create any type of armor, or just whatever Lion-O needs at the moment? Like, can have a scuba suit if needed?
That just lends itself to SOOO MANY toys!

Whole episode could have converyed all the information in half the time through Leo, not Lion-o taking Leo’s place. Lion-o should have been the observer. Paradox: why would his action’s determine all? A record should not be changed? Can’t have it both ways.
I agree that Lion-O should have been an observer. I don’t think Lion-O’s actions would change the record, it was probably more of a test to see if he was worthy of the information in the book. If he failed the Book of Omens would deem him unworthy and deny him access.
Ah, the vacuum of space (once they crashed back through the ship leaving gaping holes.) Thundercats are still immune to it. Should we talk about parsecs?

Yeah, I wish they’d give the female Thundercats names as well. The fast one and the little girl are great, but not having a name kills it. :rolleyes:

Despite being an awesome episode,and Crew of Omens telling me that they have not used any concepts from the comics..this episode felt like the love child of the Time Capsule episode from the OS with the “Dogs of War” arc from he Wildstorm comics..
Even as just a gauntlet thing on his arm, Mumm-ra looked bad a$$ in this episode. I kinda like how they didn’t solve who mumm-ra “is” because he’s so much cooler as a mysterious/egyptian-like/zombie monster villian. It’s kind of hard to actually describe him. I got stargate vibes from the space ship, but thats all good, enslaving anthropomorphic animal species was a twist I didn’t see coming. Bring on Mako the tigershark!
Liked the episode except the armour on Leo/Liono.
Question:- Was the GF a Pantha? How was she so tall?
Suggestion. I don’t know how it could possible be written it into the story but I would love to see that Panthea girl and Cheetara have a “cat fight” at some stage. Now that would be cool 
New member here, but I’d like to echo what most people were saying in that I am really enjoying this new series and for the most part I liked this episode - my Husband enjoyed it far more (as there was a new female for him to oogle, Silverhawks and Tigersharks references - he enjoyed those series far more that I did, and tech suits - yes he’s a huge tech suit fan, he loves the Bubblegum Crisis series and anything else with tech suits in them) I too didn’t like the head on Leo’s armor, but ah well.
However what I haven’t seen mentioned is that this seems to be this series’ way to finally explain why there aren’t the three stones located on Lion-O’s gauntlet that were there in the original series (if my memory serves, those were used as grappling hooks, but they looked like jewels). So here be power jewels instead of grappling hooks. Interesting… I hope more backstory over all evolves…
As much as I am enjoying this series (and I truly am enjoying it 
) it feels a bit rushed so far. Does anyone know how long this series is, or at least the season? 12 eps, or 24? I too would like to see more backstory for the other characters, like how Tygra got adopted, maybe something more about Cheetara & Jaga, etc. Some more character development would really make this series, as someone mentioned, rather like Last Airbender (although I must say, that series is a pinnacle of animation and shows character development to a “T”, but we are only in the seventh episode of this series, so it might be a tad premature to start comparing the two yet… Hopefully it will get better in that depo… hopefully 
).
So far I am excited about this series and can’t wait for the next episode! It really makes my Husband and I’s week!
I ma yBe mistaken but i believe the season will only be 26 episodes. With as much success as we’ve had so far it wouldnt surprise me that they have a third season (2nd season i believe is in the works?) and beyond.
Ok I kind of hit on this in the Crew Chat. They did Fight in space but that is why the had the Suits. So No more Bare Skin or Breathing in a vacuum. As for the Ship I am going to assume it had some sort of Automatic Breach Force Fields for containing internal atmosphere as in Star Trek. I am sure that would be something all Space faring Species would have Thought of to combat particular Emergency situation. (no not the Man getting blasted through the Hull Emergency.:sneaky: But just a sudden big hole in the side of the ship emergency.)
As to the Third Earth Question I have a feeler on that out to the Crew Blog. Once I get an answer I will Post it here. (That is if Balgus does not beat me to it. )

I suppose his left eye may possess a stone from which he may get his power or armor. Just a thought.
Is Third Earth a moon of Jupiter? Jupiter seems to be in the background of some episodes? Or is it Earth as the solar system diagram might indicate?

The new series still has not defined what a Thundercat is for the new series. From the old series, it was clear that a Thundercat served the Sword of Omens and its wielder.

It kinda felt like Voltron to me Wasn’t too bad of an episode at all. I really really want to know what planet everyone originated from now and what planets Mumm-ra stole the stones from.
Lion-o had more to learn in the OS, and was far from perfect. This Lion-o is too old in the mind for his age, so it does not ring true, and he is too super Lion-o.
You would think little things like the vacuum of space would matter in a series the producer touted as superior and adult to the OS.
Naming the character on a forum (the panther woman) is not the same as naming her, giving her her due, in the actual episode. That is what I was referring to here.

I have loved every episode except the Squid/Fish Pirate one since it really had no bearing on anything.
I guess I’m taking this show as something completely new and not expecting it to be something from my past. I have really enjoyed this series and especially Legacy as it gives the show a reason to continue. The search for the 3 other stones of power and who will get to them first.
I would love to see Mumm-ra get 2 or maybe all the others so we can see his true potential. My only gripe is that there isn’t enough of the other Thundercats as of yet, but again…7 of 52…so I still got a lot of time to see the bolowhip in action and we all have a lot of time to see many sub stories develop and conclude.
Next Friday…highly anticipated by this guy.
As strongly implied by my first post on this thread, the whole “possess one’s ancestor in a VR record of the past” deal seemed VERY derivative of the Assassin’s Creed franchise to me. Maybe Jaga’s warning at the beginning meant that Lion-O had to maintain synchronization with Leo’s actual actions in the past.
And yes, I know that they didn’t show anything of the sort, but at least I’m trying for a No-Prize instead of just complaining…
