Hey guys, I wanted to bring up the topic of a June/July site update. I’m not sure how busy all of you guys are at the moment, but I know I promised Mark that I would help do some things in the Animation Art section and I also have the additions to the front page near finished so those will probably be noted sometime during June and July.
I wanted to see if anyone else had anything being worked on that could possibly be part of the update as well.
Manny, I took care of my section already… though I would like to add some new cel pages so could use some help on doing those, especially the adding of blue borders to the images.
My update will come in early August when I reveal the Publicity art originals that I picked up. I’ll also be attending San Diego Comic Con this year (late July) so I can do an update on what is new for TCats… I’m hoping they’ll announce the new show and toys
I have some more stuff prepared that just needs HTML-ising - my biggest enemy at the moment is time, but hopefully I’ll be able to get some more completed before June!
when’s the target date for the update. The minis should in all actuality be done by then I have to go and tweak over my writing as I have gotten new pics and things like that.
A small merch section should be able to get up as well.
the only thing is I havent actually learned the html yet been busy and then I put it off till I get a new comp in the next month or so.
I hope to rip the requested sound clips of Vultureman for He-Fan tomorrow (finally, heh heh) so that can be included in the next update if it meets with everyone’s satisfaction.
I can help with html, too, if anyone needs it. We’re moving right now, so that’s probably about all I can fit in this round.
Chris I will take pictures of the DVD art that I just got and post it here or upload it to a specified folder that you would like. Also I would imagine a watermark is needed for those so I will watermark them as well. Theyre awesome nonetheless.
That would be great, Angie, thanks! With regard to the Vultureman soundclips, my main reason for needing them is because I’d like to get a comparison to get TCL team members’ opinions on whether his appearance in “Lord of the Snows” really is Bob McFadden doing the voice rather than Earl Hammond. However, at some point I’d love to integrate some short sound files into TCL’s Episode Guide, maybe turn the text in the speech bubbles from the “memorable quotes” into links to soundfiles of their corresponding lines of dialogue (if that makes sense!). What do you guys all think?
That’s amazing news, MannyC! Yes please, if you can get the images to me, either by uploading them somewhere or by whatever means you think best, that would be amazing - you don’t even need to watermark them unless it’s easy, I can handle that if you want. The beauty of the Original Comic Art Gallery pages is that, the way I have them set up, it will take me literally about 10 minutes to build both of those pages!
Top man, thank you! That will definitely be a part of the next update, once I’ve got the final images for MannyC’s new DVD artwork pieces I’ll create an updated index page!
Hopefully late July, early August i will be able to have a second major attack at the Encyclopedia. So writers..(you know who you are lol) Be aware that I may need some support on this around this time
Well, you know where I am, Kyle my friend - I’d love to get my teeth into some more Encyclopedia writing stuff, for me doing that last year was what really managed to get my “TCL muse” kick-started for the rest of the year!
At the moment I’m doing a lot with the Episode Guide - but, if you have an idea of what sort of thing you’d be looking for in terms of “side text”, etc., if you wanted to LMK in advance I’d be happy to use it as occasional “light relief” from working on the Episode Guide!
Looking forward to seeing some more Encyclopedia stuff - I consider that to be one of the most significant areas of this site!
Sounds great guys. I just used June/July as an estimated timeframe…I was going to say the summer update (June/July/August), but I wasn’t sure if it was summer for the UK people …
He-Fan, it’s cool. Whatever you want to do with the sound clips is fine by me. Even if they never make it into the ep guide (though I love that idea…clickable sound clips for people to hear as well!) it could very well make for a good tool in a side article about Vultureman’s odd first appearance seemingly out of nowhere and the equally odd voice he had at first, along with ideas that it might not have been the same VA in “Snows”.
As for writing, if anyone needs me to jump in there and help get some writing done, let me know. I’m on the team, gotta start contributing to the site, right?
Yeah, definitely! If you can grab those Vultureman sound files and folks here take a listen, perhaps you guys can LMK whether you share my view that it could be a different voice actor, and thus whether it would be “article-worthy”?
As a side note, Angie, at some point when you’re able (not necessarily now with everything that’s going on for you), would you be willing to grab sound files of quotes we have displayed in the Episode Guide so far? I’d do it myself but as far as I’m aware I don’t have the necessary software! It would be great to add a “multimedia” aspect to the Episode Guide!
Well, you might remember some while back we spoke about you doing an article about Rankin-Bass/Telepictures, and the absolute origins of the ThunderCats series, etc., for our “About the Series” area in the Cartoon Section. Would you still be up for doing that? If you could help me out with that (and also perhaps shoot me some ideas about good images to use to illustrate the article - such as a shot of Ted Wolf from the DVD documentaries, maybe?), that would be amazing!
EDIT: Something else I just thought of! Didn’t I hear you mention a while back that you’ve compiled a list of character appearances, i.e. a list of which episodes certain characters appear in? If so, I don’t suppose you’d be willing to share this research with us, would you? The reason why I ask is because ultimately we need this info to complete our Encyclopedia, and I know that Kyle and Martin were going to be trawling through episodes making notes of these things - even though I’m speculating, as the Encyclopedia isn’t an area I’m in charge of, if you were able to let us know your findings, I reckon it could save those guys a lot of work!
Right, the Rankin-Bass article. I started doing research and found one big source article no longer online and I’m actually having a hard time finding good sources with needed info in them. So that’s hit a sort of snag at the moment. Info on Ted Wolf himself seems sparse, which is disappointing. If I can find a pic of him or take a screen shot though, I will. That article is going to take more time than I thought, though. Ideally, I’d like to get a hold of Janice Wolf and see if I can interview her for the article. Getting a hold of Rankin/Bass would also be optimal, if it can be done. That’s another thing I’m looking into. I’d also like to talk to someone at WB, just to see what they know and get more insight into how they came to acquire the property from Rankin/Bass.
At any rate, if I can’t scare up some people or sources who have better info, then the article is going to be disappointing - no more than pulling together the vague bits that are already out there being repeated. I would like to add something more insightful and exclusive to it…darnit it’s taking more time than it should, too.
I’ll try to keep you posted though.
I’d be happy to rip sound clips of the quotes in the ep guide. Cheezey’s hubby gave me a kick-ass program not too long ago, and I can convert any video clip into just about any format I want, including ripping sound files from them. Fast and easy I assume you’d prefer mp3 format for the smaller files sizes? I can do WAVs too, or both. Just let me know.
And oh yes, the appearance chart! I’m working on revamping that (long story, won’t bore you with the dramatic details) and have a draft page started. It’s still in very rough form, and details are bound to be added and set-up changed but you’ll get the idea of what I’m trying to do here: http://www.thundercatsfans.org/tcshow/appearances.php
Needs a lot of work, and if I don’t get it out of tables it’ll scroll to infinity by the time it’s done  And it’ll be cross-referenced to other areas of the site when it’s post-worthy. The whole thing on Mumm-Ra’s guises will actually be a seperate supplimentary page, too, which you’ll be welcome to snag info off when that’s up. Anyway, the counts and eps for the main tcats are there so far, and I hope to make the chart more of a priority when I get back to my next batch of site updates.
Holy hell, that is amazingly comprehensive - thank you! That’s far more in-depth than I’d invisioned it being, which is brilliant - please feel free to take as long as you need to work on the article, it sounds like the final product could be nothing short of awe-inspiringly inspirational!
That’s really kind of you, again, many thanks! And you’re bang on the money with mp3 being my preferred format, simply because it seems to be the most “universal” - that would be just awesome if you could do those, I think it would really add something to the “memorable quotes”!
Blimey, how do I keep missing all this cool stuff on your site?! That really is an excellent resource you’ve got going there - in theory, using that list, I would have thought several of our Encyclopedia pages could actually be completed in their entirety!
Well, that’s the hope! If, however, I can’t get the sources mentioned to respond and cooperate, I’m afraid I will turn out the lame little scant version and have people wonder why that took so long  Oh well, gotta try for the gold. It doesn’t hurt and if it works, it always pays off so well. Wish me luck!

Actually, that page isn’t live on the site yet so you didn’t miss it It probably will go live before it’s completed entirely, but it’ll be fleshed out more, the bits that are done, and probably plopped into a script that will hopefully let visitors sort it as they wish (kinda how on ebay you can sort auctions by price, how soon they’re ending, location, etc I hope to be able to sort the appearance guide similarly - so visitors can not only take it as a whole, but also by main grouping and from descending or ascending order according to number of appearances, etc. I’m eyeing one javascript for that right now…but the tables are helping me sort out the very basics in the meantime before I plug the info into anything more complicated).
Anyway, I’ll get to those Vultureman clips and try to get them out to you today at least. With this being more a summer update here, I’m hoping I can eventually get more of those sound clips done for you too. There’s more time to get things done than I initially thought
Ok, they arrive later than I’d planned, but the vman clips are done!
Upon watching Lord of the Snows again, I’m almost willing to bet it was Bob McFadden who initially did his voice. I wonder if LK could confirm that?
You can download the clips here. Let me know if there’s any problems.
In the meantime, I’ll make note of the quotes in the ep guide and will try to get some of those ripped by next update. How does that sound (no pun intended har har)?
