You are correct about the direction he was looking. I own the episode. I bought it from Amazon Unbox. At closer examination, Panthro is right next to the gold coins. The gold coins were in that enclosed, square section that had the original pool of water. It would seem that was possibly the “intended” exit for that trap. It was already underwater and they didn’t see it until Panthro sunk into that area where the coins were.
Yes, it is on the side of the wall, not on the floor. Great drawing, btw. You are exactly right about the drawing. Good to know someone has an understanding of how these things work in real life.
Tygra’s weapon has never been just a whip. It’s always been a “bolo” whip (though really it should be bola not bolo). It’s made for grabbing or tripping or capturing. Thats why it has the weights on the end. I think that’s one of the reasons the new creators gave him a gun to go with it. Because it’s not really meant to be an actual harmful weapon (but if thrown with enough force might inflict damage (e.g., breaking a bone).
Not only a Thundercat, but possibly a Cleric as well. Flashback scene where the six were sealed into the Tower was followed by an image of the Book with seven spokes. Perhaps the seventh Cleric was banished from the kingdom and sealed in the pyramid.
It probably contains all of the forbidden tech which is just waiting for the TCats to rediscover. Then they will be able to finally even the odds a little.
Unfortunately either I forgot what time ThunderCats started or they bumped it down a half hour because I ended up recordning Star Wars. :sneaky:
So I watched it online.
So…
This episode played out like a Zelda game, imo.
They obviously took ideas from Indiana Jones (Cheetara racing through blades, and the leap from the lion’s mouth) and Star Wars (Mumm-Ra zapping Lion-O and being saved by Jaga).
I have 5 gripes/complaints…
The energy Mumm-Ra shoots at the ThunderCats, what damage is it supposed to actually do besides knock them down or hit them back, which apparantly does no real damage to them since they get right back up. I am seriously unimpressed with Mumm-Ra’s so-called “powers.” His technology seems more deadly than his “powers.” He might as well use that.
Cheetara’s comment about Jaga’s clues leading them that far. Come again? His clue was much to vague to have gotten them there on their own.
Panthro getting out of the water. The door he found was at the bottom of the water, it obviously led upward to the floor above them. Since he can’t swim and Lion-O couldn’t even hold his breath long enough to reach the bottom, how did Panthro make it all the way up without drowning?
I did not like that simply shouting “ThunderCats Ho” made Cheetara’s eyes glow and empowered her. I felt short-changed since that only happened in OS after shouting “thunder” 3 times first. I was also annoyed that it did not empower the other ThunderCats.
I really wasn’t impressed with what I saw of this Tower of Omens.
Anyway…
At first I was annoyed by the fact that the clerics would have made the first obstacle only two easy - an 8 year old kid could pick the lock? But then I realized, all of the companions with Lion-O had an obstacled that they were needed to overcome - the kittens were the ones to overcome the first, Cheetara the second, Panthro the third, and Tygra the fourth. It’s almost as the clerics had seen into the future, that perhaps there was a prophecy regarding Lion-O and in that prophecy, it had been seen who his companions would be.
I liked that Slithe seems to be lengthening his s’s more.
I think Jaga is one of the ancient clerics who head the book, probably the head of them. Perhaps stowing away in the Tower of Omens kept him alive somehow or maybe he found another way to cheat death.
Makes me wonder where the rest of those ancient clerics are.
This ancient history told through Mumm-Ra and Cheetara is rather interesting. I wonder if Mumm-Ra somehow manipulated the genes of cats to advance them into human-like cats and I wonder if when we see Mumm-Ra’s history of the Tiger “Tygus” doing the mission in stealing the stone and the lion standing beside him, if those were the only 2 Cats like that in existance. It is most curious that it was a Lion and a Tiger. I wonder if he had advanced their species, if perhaps they were naive, young and inexperienced enough to do what they were told without understanding good and evil or thinking Mumm-Ra was good. And I’m wondering if the stone Tygus stole ever made it to Mumm-Ra or if he took the stone. Too many questions without answers.
Overall, I found it to be an intriuguing episode. I thought the coolest scene was the cat head coming out of the water. That mixed with the music was very cool.
That has already been explained pretty well by balgus82. He even made a drawing. Post #215 on page #22.
Combining what he posted with what I posted recently about how that door Panthro found was in the pool with the gold.
He was already at the bottom of the water. When he went through that hatch, there might have been a ladder going up. Balgus82’s diagram shows what I mean.
